I travelled to America’s largest state fair (the Minnesota State Fair) to search for the best food it had to offer. I tried all kinds of interesting dishes, and the one that came out on top was crowned ‘The Best Food In America’.
Video Summary
AI GeneratedA food reviewer visits the Minnesota State Fair to sample a variety of unique and eccentric dishes, scoring each out of 10 to determine the \"best food in America.\" After tasting everything from savory sausage flights to deep-fried dessert burgers, the \"When Pigs Fly\" sausage flight emerges as the champion.
Today, I'm at America's largest state fair,
the Minnesota State Fair,
and I'm on the hunt to find the best food
that it has to offer.
I'll be trying everything from deep fried
uncrustable burgers to pickle pizza,
and giving each one a score out of 10.
The food with the highest score wins,
and will be crowned the best food in America.
I have eaten some crazy things on this channel,
but nothing compares to what I'm about to eat today.
Let's go get some food.
For stop number one, we made it to Dino's Euros,
and this is a crazy breakfast,
but we got a Dubai whoopie pie.
So this is a Dubai chocolate inspired whoopie pie
made with pistachio cream,
and sandwiched between two dark chocolate cakes.
I do enjoy Dubai stuff, and I really enjoy whoopie pies,
so this should be very interesting.
There are just so many different textures
going on with this.
First, you get that soft cake,
and then it's followed by the crunchy,
shredded phyllo dough and pistachios.
This thing is pretty incredible.
I've had my fair share of whoopie pies,
but this one was very unique,
and I've never had one as big as this.
It was stuffed with the pistachio cream.
I could definitely eat the rest of this,
but that would probably be a bad idea,
because we have a lot more eating to do.
While I love the flavor,
the only downside, I would say,
is that it's a little bit dry.
I mean, I do think the Dubai stuff
is a little bit overdone at this point,
but this whoopie pie is fantastic.
If I had to give it a rating,
I think I'm gonna go 7.2 out of 10.
So stop number one is complete,
and we are only getting crazier from here.
I'll see you at the next stop.
For our next stop, we made it to Cafe Kuribay,
and we got a surf and turf burger.
This is a new item in 2026,
and it's a pepper jack burger
that has garlic herb butter lobster tossed on top.
I had a feeling this was gonna be a messy one,
so I held on real tight, and I dug right on in.
That lobster with the mayo just melted in my mouth,
and I love pepper jack cheese,
so that's always a plus.
I don't know, I think we might have a new leader.
One of the big cons I'm getting
from the burger is the price.
Yes, I know it has lobster on it,
but that burger ran me $16.
And maybe I just have a big mouth,
but after two or three bites,
that whole burger's almost gone.
And I'd say I got a good amount of lobster,
but I feel like some of the other ones I saw
had a much lighter helping.
When considering all those factors,
I think I'm gonna give the surf and turf burger a 7.8.
So we're two foods down,
and our next stop is where things
really started to get interesting.
I'll see you at the next stop.
For our next stop, we made it to the Tot Boss,
and we got a family size of the Elote Tots.
So these are deep-fried tater tots
tossed in tajin and topped with an Elote-style sauce.
They loaded so many things onto these tots,
and the tots themselves are unreal.
They are so crispy, and they're cooked to perfection.
Again, though, the price, this is $18 for a family size.
And I don't know what family this feeds,
maybe a family of gerbils.
But yeah, I guess I was just really hoping
for a bigger quantity of tots.
And this is currently the number one
trending food at the state fair,
so people are really enjoying these.
If you're a big Elote fan, or let alone just a corn fan,
you will really enjoy this.
But I don't know, maybe the price is just bogging me down,
but I want a little bit more from it.
So I think for the Elote Tots, I'll go with a 7.
7 out of 10.
Top tier tots, though.
So our current leader is still the Surf and Turf Burger,
but the next food we were gonna get changed everything.
See you at the next stop.
For our next item, we got a dessert,
and it's the Banana Butterscotch Barnraiser
from the Minnesota Farmers Union.
This is a vanilla pound cake
layered with roasted bananas, butterscotch sauce,
and caramelized croissant croutons.
This is a new item in 2026,
and it looks like it's getting hyped up a lot,
so super excited to get down on it.
All right, first bite.
Everything from the bananas, to the cake,
to the whipped cream just went together so perfectly.
All the textures, too, are just fantastic.
I love all this crunchy stuff on top.
Shout out to the farmers.
My goodness, this thing is insane.
Only downsides for me is that the line was really long,
but it's bound to happen at the state fair,
and man, I just wish I got a little bit more.
There was a ton of talk going into this
about the Banana Butterscotch,
and I think it deserves all the praise.
I think this might be our first nine of the day.
I'm going 9.4.
So the Barnraiser's our new leader,
but we still have a lot more food to try.
And next up, I think we're getting some pizza.
Next up from Rick's Pizza,
we got the Famous Pickle Pizza Slice.
This pizza comes with a homemade specialty dill ranch sauce,
mozzarella cheese, crunchy sliced dill pickles,
and it's finished with a sprinkle of dill on top.
I've said it a bunch before,
but I'm originally from New York,
so I am a huge fan of pizza,
and I don't think I could say I've ever had a pickle pizza.
And while I was worried that the dill
was gonna be overpowering, this just works.
It tasted great.
I feel like pickles are a huge part of state fairs,
and while some of the pickle stuff is a little ridiculous,
this pizza is fantastic.
Gotta try the crust piece.
Rick's Pizza left me pleasantly surprised,
and after crushing my slice,
I was just mad I didn't get a whole pie.
Call me crazy, but I love pickles,
and I think I'm giving that slice a nine out of 10.
I totally get why the pickle pizza is so popular now,
and it slid right into second place.
And although the Barnraiser still had a comfortable lead,
this next stop might just take the crown from it.
Let's keep it moving.
So next up from Sausage Sisters and Me,
we got the When Pigs Fly flight.
And this consists of four pork sausages
all wrapped in puff pastry,
all covered with different toppings,
and then served on a stick.
First one up, I think this has chimichurri on it.
This was a ridiculous bite.
The chimichurri was bright, it was tangy,
and it was a perfect pairing for the chorizo sausage.
I'm gonna say it, the sausage was ginormous,
but the chimichurri was very refreshing.
And since it's quite hot out here,
I definitely needed that.
The next one was a Texas two-step sausage
with sweet pepper coleslaw,
and it had a very nice balance of sweet and savory.
No doubt, we are two for two.
We followed that up with an Oktoberfest sausage
that had melted cheddar cheese and a chili crunch.
When Pigs Fly is making a strong case right now.
Love the diversity of flavors.
And our final bite was a porchetta Italian sausage
with pickle aioli.
It was nice and salty,
and I think it was a perfect way to cap off the flight.
I've never had a flight of sausage like that,
but there's no doubt about it, it was phenomenal.
For me, this is a must-try item
if you're going to the state fair,
and I really hope there's more flavors in the future.
Given the variety and how much more satiating it was,
I'm sorry to the butterscotch,
but I think I got to give this a nine-five.
So the one Pigs Fly takes the lead,
but we still got some more food to go.
And now that I was six foods in,
I kind of thought I had seen everything,
but I could not have been more wrong.
Next up, we got potentially the weirdest thing
at the Minnesota State Fair.
This is from Coasters, and it's the Uncrust-A-Burger.
So we got all the normal burger stuff,
the patty, cheese, special sauce, and pickles,
but instead of buns,
we have two deep-fried grape and jelly Uncrustables.
I don't know what to expect, I'm a little bit nervous.
Wish me luck.
I don't really know how to feel about that.
Eating this Uncrust-A-Burger,
you know, the best way I could describe it
is like you're taking a roundhouse kick to the taste buds.
When you bite into this, so many flavors hit your mouth,
and I don't know if they particularly go together that well,
but on their own, I really like Uncrustables,
I really like burgers.
Maybe you just got to compartmentalize it a little.
Gonna hit this deep-fried Uncrustable solo.
Who knew you could make an Uncrustable better?
This thing is amazing.
This really is the epitome of State Fair food.
It's got a deep-fried element, it's a little bit bizarre,
and you know, it's probably gonna give you
a ton of heartburn.
And it does also make quite a mess.
Definitely gets those shock factor points,
and honestly, the more I ate it, the more I enjoyed it.
I will go 7.4.
All right, I'm gonna clean up,
and then I'll see you for our final stop.
And it wasn't just any stop.
Our final item is widely considered
the most famous food you can get
at the Minnesota State Fair.
For our final stop of the day,
we made it to Sweet Martha's Cookies,
and we literally got a full bucket
of chocolate chip cookies.
Sweet Martha's has been around since the 1970s,
and it's estimated that they sell roughly
three million cookies every single day at the fair.
And they scraped a whole tray of chocolate chip cookies
into this bucket.
And they gave me a top for my bucket,
but you'd probably have to eat like 20 cookies
before you could close it.
I wanted to film this while in the State Fair,
but it was getting later in the day and getting so busy,
so I just took it outside.
I also got a cup of milk,
but I think I'm severely dehydrated.
That milk did not make it out of the State Fair.
And it was not easy getting out.
We were shoulder to shoulder with people.
We even had to get through a parade,
all while trying to not spill our cookies.
But let's see what these cookies are all about.
These cookies are so soft, but they're also so crunchy.
The sheer quantity of cookies, too, is so insane.
If I were to eat this whole bucket, I'd probably die.
The line was long at Martha's,
but I think it was worth the wait.
I am so happy I got these.
But if I had to give these cookies a ranking,
I think I'm going with a 9.2, 9.2.
So it didn't get that number one spot,
but it's for sure in my top three.
And with the eating wrapping up there,
that means our champion and the winner
of the Best Food in America title
goes to the When Pigs Fly flight.
It was truly a special dish,
and while I enjoyed all the other foods I ate,
there is no doubt that one is my number one pick.
So thank you guys so much for watching.
I had such a blast trying all that food.
