Ed Miliband has told MPs the British Government agrees that ethnic cleansing of Palestinians is taking place in parts of the West Bank, carried out by "settler terrorists".

Speaking from the Commons, Mr Miliband cited comments from former Israeli prime minister Ehud Olmert, who described events as "a violent and criminal effort to ethnically cleanse territories in the West Bank".

Mr Miliband also quoted former Israeli health minister and retired IDF brigadier general Ephraim Sneh, who said: "This is ethnic cleansing, pure and simple."

The Foreign Secretary said the Israeli Government had "all too often" turned a blind eye to the issue, with some of its members making statements or taking actions that supported the forced displacement of Palestinians.

He acknowledged the gravity of his remarks, but said such language was "the least the people who face such suffering deserve".
