SEWING NOTES: Heirloom Birthday Bunting 🧵
To make a reusable, lifetime-friendly garland:
Materials: Thrifted cotton fabric, bias tape or sturdy string, iron, fabric scissors.
The Process: Cut out 18 fabric triangles (to represent each year of childhood). Use a shape cut out from paper to cut them at the same size. Sew two triangles on the wrong side, keep two of the corners oven (for the ribbon to go through). Turn the triangles through one of the gaps. Add them to a string with a safety pin.
Memory Idea: Decorate or embroider one triangle each year with a motif representing your child’s favorite thing or memory at that age.
RECIPE: Dreamy Creamy Apple Pie🥧
Pie Crust :
220 g wheat flour
100 g butter
90 g sugar
1 whole egg + 1 egg yolk
1 pinch of salt
Pie Filling:
4 apples
50 g butter
1 tbsp sugar
Fresh lemon juice from approx. 1 juicy lemon
Instructions:
Dough: Knead all the dough ingredients together until smooth. Wrap and let it rest in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
Pre-Cook the Apples (The Secret Step): Peel and slice the 4 apples. Place them in a saucepan with the lemon juice. Cook over medium heat until the apples absorb all the lemon juice and get moist.
Assemble: Roll out the dough into a pie dish, leaving a bit of excess dough hanging over the edge. Add the cooked apple puree. Add sliced apples on the top
Topping: Crumble the 50 g butter together with the 2 tbsp sugar, then sprinkle it evenly over the apples.
Bake: Bake at 200°C (390°F) for 35–40 minutes until golden and caramelized.
Serve: Enjoy warm with homemade vanilla ice cream
