Marquise Lightfoot on Miami's Defensive Line Performance
Sep 9, 2026
I think rightfully so noted you played really well against the run on Friday.
Is that something you've really worked on in your game and just talk about kind of what
you saw out there against Stanford?
I say yeah, like just, you know, that comes with just putting on a weight just playing
with violence and whatnot, but that was something I'm trying to change the narrative on, you
know, people thinking I'm too smart to play that position.
So, you know, it's a lot more we can still do, but I guess we did stop the run though.
All right, Darryl, Marquis, what's going on?
Marquis, how would you rate your game the other night?
If you had to rate it from one to 10, how would you rate your play tonight?
I ain't like it at all.
I'll say a five because, you know, we made the average plays that, you know, I was able
to make, you know, with just with just balance, but I say it was a lot more for me left on
the bone.
You know, I got into a motion pass rush away as quick.
I was feel like I was too used to how they said, but, you know, they did do a lot of
tips, you know, making sure they got the ball out quick, making sure they chip the edges.
So, you know, it's a lot more left to do a lot more left to what should I say?
A lot more left to prove, I say, but I say five out of 10.
I like that game.
All right.
Thank you.
All right.
Next, we'll go to Adam and then Jordan.
Hey, Marquis, just how would you, I guess, evaluate how Armando Blunt played?
It seemed like he obviously got the first sack of the season.
Just how do you think he did?
You know, I think his first start, if I remember right, but just how do you think he did on
Friday?
Yeah, he did.
He did his thing.
I think he did real well.
You know, he he showed a lot more pass rushing moves that I thought he had than I thought
he had.
So like he he he most definitely and I'm proud of him, but he did his thing.
Any any jealousy kind of in the defensive end room, you know, with you guys about who
got the first sack?
No, there ain't no jealousy, man.
I mean, it's a race to the bottom every time, but, you know, we proud of whoever make the
play, man.
We just want to see everybody do great.
All right.
Jordan, you're next.
And then Matt, you'll wrap us up.
Hey, Marquis, I've got two for you first to sort of build off of Daryl's question with
you saying there's still a lot more to prove.
What is it going to take to get to that next level?
I say, you know, that first game was just us getting our feet wet.
You know, a lot of people just getting used to, you know, the real speed of how the game
goes.
So as the season goes on, it's just going to get more and more violent, a lot more us
playing together as a team and whatnot.
But that's what I mean when I say there's a lot more left, you know, meat on the bone.
I got you.
And then a second question, a shorter week, you guys obviously flew back Friday into Saturday.
You got a Thursday game.
Just how is this week in practice?
How do you guys adjust to a shorter week to get ready for the next game?
We just basically, you know, push it up a day, you know, usually we play on either Friday
or Saturday.
So we just push the schedule up a day and, you know, we don't treat it one to no like
every other game.
We don't, you know, come in, you know, working for working for the one and all.
All right, Matt, you wrap this up.
All right.
Hey, Marquis.
So with Ruben and Akeem at the game, how much did that mean to you in the defense?
And what was their message to you guys?
It meant a lot.
Their message was just like, you know, name this, face this opponent.
We're going to go in and we're going to take what's ours, like, regardless of who we're
playing, just the one and all mentality and just finishing what, just finishing, you know,
on that last team.
We made it all the way, but we didn't finish.
So they just wanted to remind us to finish, you know, having Ruben and Miz there, you
know, that was just a lot of support that I appreciate them being there, you know, because
those were the guys I played with last year.
I was able to compliment.
So, you know, having them just, you know, guide me, you know, and what should I say,
give me my props on the plays that I did make and the plays that I could have made, you
know, just like it meant a lot to me.
Thanks.
All right.
Great job, Marquis.
Appreciate the time.
Thank you.
Appreciate y'all.
