Gentlemen, welcome back to the channel. So I'm just going to jump right in here because
here's the thing about this time of year, September specifically. It's sort of this
transition period because it's not quite fall yet, but summer is coming to an end, of course.
And because it's a transition period, you get a free pass to kind of start over with your wardrobe.
And the really cool thing, once again, about this time of year right now
is that nobody really notices, right? So this year, do not be the guy who wears the same old
tire rotation that you've been wearing for like the last five years. And of course,
in an effort to help you out today, I want to give you six pieces that can make you look great
and also feel great about what you're wearing. So here's the thing, menswear right now is kind of
moving in a different direction. Skinny fits are out obviously, but boxy fits are kind of starting
to lose a bit of traction. What's working now and what's been working pretty much all along,
especially with this middle-aged demographic is tailored and streamlined fits, but not restrictive
or oversized fits. The color palette is also shifting a little bit warmer. So think earth
tones and warm neutrals. And the cool part is that all of these colors tend to work really
well together and can make you look expensive and a little bit more refined without really looking
like you're trying. So this isn't necessarily like chasing trends right now. This is more about
sort of grabbing a hold of the shift that's happening right now and using that as your
excuse to upgrade some of those items in your wardrobe that do a lot of that heavy lifting.
Okay, the first piece, and I think this is the one that most guys over 40 still haven't quite
fixed yet, and that is your trousers. In my opinion, what you're looking for is tailored,
straight, or like an athletic taper fit with either no break at the ankle or just like a
mild half break. I think what we're looking for that looks best anyway is clean lines with no
bunching on top of your shoes, right? No pants puddle on top of your foot. And the bonus is
that just that one fit correction kind of changes how all of your tops look on you because now
you look more balanced. You look taller and more polished because you don't have this puddle of
pants on top of your foot. Now the second piece is a quarter zip sweater. Now this is the layering
piece that I think does the most for the least amount of effort. This is going to read really
put together and polish the second you put it on, but it's also going to look casual kind of at the
same time without looking like you're trying very hard. Wear the quarter zip either by itself. You
can wear it under a jacket or wear it over just a regular t-shirt. I think the biggest mistake here
though is going too boxy and oversized. Now you want that quarter zip close enough to your body
that it layers well but still doesn't add a whole lot of bulk. The ones I'm showing you right now are
from Collars & Co. I've talked about these guys before and I'm a huge fan of this brand. Gosh I've
got shoes from Collars & Co. I've got pants. I've got dress shirts, amazing polo shirts, sweaters,
and jackets. All of that from Collars & Co. and I wear their stuff all the time. I've got the long
sleeve polo on right now. They literally have everything you need from head to toe. Their
quarter zip sweaters are perfect in my opinion. They fit really well. They're not super thick so
they don't add a lot of bulk that can be kind of uncomfortable and too hot. They're made really
well and they just look fantastic. Now the third item on my list today is a long sleeve polo and
once again this one is from Collars & Co. This is a very versatile piece because you can wear this
untucked, super casual with jeans and sneakers, or you can wear this one tucked in with some
dress pants and dress shoes for a really nice sophisticated like Saturday night dinner date
look. Think like casual James Bond. The fourth piece on my list today is a nice mid-weight
jacket. Something warm and something with a little bit of visual interest and depth to it.
Now this is the piece that helps you sort of pull the whole outfit together and it signals that you
actually thought about what you put on that day. Now this one right here is the Santa Barbara. It's
cotton cashmere. It's this really beautiful knit jacket also from Collars & Co. I love this jacket.
It's not bulky but it's still going to be just warm enough to do its job. Now the two-tone design
I think is a very nice touch but it's also like subtle enough that it's not super bold. Gentlemen,
there's going to be a link down below in the description box to a special offer from Collars
& Co. that's going to give you a discount on anything that you want to go grab for yourself.
Go check out the website right now and just go take a look at all the brand new stuff they have
because they've got a lot. And also use that link in the description to be able to take advantage of
that discount and go treat yourself to something new this season. All right the fifth piece on my
list today is a knit cardigan and I know this is the one that some of you guys are going to be
a little skeptical about but hear me out. When a good cardigan is worn right it is one of the most
elevated pieces that you can wear for the fall. The key though is getting one with some structure
to it. Avoid the oversized floppy cardigans that make you look frumpy. Wear this one with jeans,
chinos, or dress pants. And one tip about cardigans, the button cardigans, always leave
the bottom button undone. Now number six is going to be a versatile good-looking pair of boots. Now
don't skip this one. I might recommend like a chukka boot or a chelsea boot but find something
that you like that still looks nice and also refined. Now I might try to avoid workwear inspired
styles on this one and try to look for something that's a little bit more refined. Again you can
wear these casually with jeans or dressed up with chinos because boots are one of those staples as
we start moving into the fall season. And also gentlemen here's the thing, don't overthink it
this year. Maybe just start with these six items and then you can sort of build from there based
on where you live and the weather that you have. You might not need a closet full of brand new stuff
okay maybe you only need four or five new pieces worn the right way. And as always thank you so
much for watching, live well, and I hope to see you in the next one.
