We have multiple St. Louis Blues updates to go over today as some new players including Mason
McTavish have finally spoke on joining the Blues and their roles moving forward. But not only that
we get multiple updates on prospect camp and training camp as they are just days away and
the excitement continues to build in the St. Louis Blues fan base because we're going to get a look
at some of the younger players on this roster in this organization that will be making an impact
for this team and the new look Springfield Thunderbirds this season as well. We're going
to break that all down and much more in this episode of Blues Digest. But guys before we
jump into all of that we've noticed that about 60% of you guys are watching these videos without
being subscribed to the channel. That means that you're missing important updates and new
you know big updates heading into this season with a new look roster on the Blues so make sure
you are subscribed to the channel and Mark and I are going to keep you updated all throughout the
season heading into potentially a playoff berth this year. Now I think this team could definitely
make some noise but we got some updates we got some news on training camp ladies and gentlemen
in less than a week Mark and I will be talking about actual games here on the channel and that's
going to be super exciting in terms of who looks good who might make the team finally going to get
to talk about it because man they are finally hitting but let's talk about it training camp
schedule so outside of this by the way this weekend they are traveling to Chicago the rookies
to play in the rookie showcase so we're going to get a look at guys like Justin Carbono Adam Juracek
so on so forth now here's the schedule for training camp next Thursday they hit the ice
there's also a scrimmage at 11 a.m that we will be covering here on the channel next Friday
there are some more scrimmages and there are some more practices going on and then the preseason
starts shortly thereafter which is very exciting also keep in mind that you can watch all of these
preseason games on the Blues website for free and the Blues app so you guys out there make sure that
you're watching these games so you know what's going on with some of these players now this is
the training camp roster we're going to get some quotes and some stuff from Mason McTavish in a
second because some of the new players have spoken out on joining the team but a few players in
particular this is the official main camp roster players off the top of my head to keep an eye on
Theo Lindstein it seems as if his spot has almost been taken from him we'll see if he earns
you know a place on the Blues roster full-time this year Colin Ralph I want to see what he does
because I wonder if he's going to make not the team but what type of season he's going to have
in the AHL Logan Mayhew can he be a top player for this team and of course I started over on defense
and you know there's the obvious names Philip Roberg we know what Brandon Carlo is going to
bring to the lineup he has a new face but we kind of know I mentioned him the other day Lucas Fisher
I want to see what he does now in the forward group there's a lot of names that I want to see
and you know what they can do and if they can make the team I want to know where Mason McTavish
and Connor McMichael are playing those are some big ones and I want to see a big big free season
out of Justin Carbno I want this guy to leave no doubt and try and make the team because I
have been ranting and raving about this guy for over a year at this point and I just wanted to
make the team so badly but of course if it fits if it's best for his development to go down
then that's what it is now Mason McTavish has finally spoken on joining the St. Louis Blues
because obviously there's a lot made out of him joining in the summer will he play left wing will
he play center what's going to happen foot speed we saw the pictures of him working out and all
that type of stuff he's getting ready to go and I think that he's going to come in with a newfound
purpose this season and you know he said joining the team has been awesome so far and this is uh
from Jeremy Rutherford out there on Twitter and he said that you know speaking to reporters for
the first time today in St. Louis he said it's been awesome so far group seems very very good
uh everyone's welcoming and uh he's just meeting everybody is uh it's been a lot so far but he
said it was nice to come in a little earlier put some names to the faces the skates are at good
pace so looking forward to camp skating so very excited to see him get on the ice and where he
plays right like is it second line center is it because Connor McMichael we'll get to the depth
chart in a second is kind of thrown in there on the third line right now uh which I don't think
is going to be the case what happens with Buchnevich right like he did not play well enough
we'll see where everyone gets going here in terms of in the depth chart in the lineup but he did not
play well enough to kind of just be thrown on a first or a second line at this point and we all
know kind of what the first line is going to look like anyway because it's the best first line for
the best line period in hockey for like 25 games at the end of last season but uh he went on to say
that I think there's a chip on my shoulder for sure I'm not happy with the way things ended and
went in Anaheim he enjoyed his time there and the guys were great awesome all that type of stuff
uh but that's something that I'm passionate about and want to get better I'm looking forward
to doing that here so he's ready to roll I'm very excited to see what he does because
they made a big move there they moved out Jordan Piru and they moved in obviously one for one with
Connor McMichael but they moved in you know a guy in Mason McTavish where they're kind of trusting
him hey we want you to play center or we'll see how that plays out but we want you to play a big
role for this team right ultimately so uh they're putting a lot of trust in him I think he's going
to be ready to rock and people keep forgetting by the way Mason McTavish so young still so young
and uh he's going to make an impact for this team I believe that in the last couple of seasons
41 points last year 52 points the year before uh he can be a great player right and even a couple
seasons ago 64 games I think his best season was 23 24 42 points in 64 games like if you can get
back to doing that and playing a lot of minutes too by the way because as he prepped into the
league you know he didn't get a lot of minutes then he was starting to get you know 16 17 minutes
a night then it kind of diminished again last year didn't play in every game barely played in the
playoffs I want to see what he can do so I'm very excited uh to see that and again 23 years of age
super excited to see that and he's going to have to play well for this team because
they're making a lot of money for the next four years as well seven million dollars now the cap's
going up it's going to look better as time goes on obviously and we were talking about that with
Michael's contract as well but that is quite a bit of money for if he does come and have a complete
stinker of a season so we will see how that goes let me know in the comments how you feel about
everything that I've discussed so far by the way including Mason McTavish but a couple other things
before we wrap up here Ross Johnson really acquired in the offseason as well he spoke out
as well and he said that it seems like it's a tight group it's been awesome so far so a theme
here where I don't know if they were necessarily prompted but the way this is reading everybody's
saying that the group seems pretty good so far and we have new leadership in you know Robert Thomas
which not necessarily knew he was around but you know Braden Schnein was the captain last year
around this time so a little bit of a different look he also said that he was looking uh to you
over the last couple of years uh move to the Midwest and a Midwest team so lands on St.
Louis he's going to be a guy that they are not going to rely upon for point production whatsoever
uh but he's going to be a guy that's going to bring some of that jam that I think that they
want and you know something that Alex talked about how he wants the team to be a little
you know blue collar right he wants it to mimic the the city and the hard-working people of St.
Louis and that's kind of what he's adding there so he's slotted right now on on the fourth line
for us but we'll see ultimately how that all plays out and that's going to come to life in
training camp next week so that's going to be a lot of fun to uh keep an eye on too and like I said
in terms of point production like absolutely not right but again just a jam guy throw him out there
it's got a motor on the fourth line hit stuff be difficult to play against all that type of stuff
last thing I'll mention here before I wrap up guys some pretty cool news uh T.J. Oshie and
Ryan Suter have been named or not named but they're headed to the USA Hockey Hall of Fame
so not the Hockey Hall of Fame but the US Hockey Hall of Fame which is pretty cool
other inductees include uh Phil Kessel and Amanda Kessel that I saw this morning so pretty cool
uh so I just wanted to shout that out point that out and uh let me know how you feel about that in
the comments they are headed to the USA Hockey Hall of Fame and for good reason I mean Oshie
great memories over the years uh you know his time in St. Louis and uh ultimately he ended up
winning his Stanley Cup and uh who will ever forget uh T.J. Oshie as well in uh you know the
Olympic Games in 2014 in the shootout so really cool stuff and uh Suter as well who uh ended up
moving on so let me know how you feel in the comments below about everything I
mentioned today and we'll see you for another video tomorrow.
