Blending vintage English spirit with personal heirlooms, the estate offers a nostalgic, \"lived-in\" atmosphere. Bonjour! Welcome back to a new home tour video
and in this one I am taking you just two hours
out of Paris to a beautiful part of Burgundy
to discover the Villa Augustine, a magical estate
that Caroline and her husband and children have transformed
into a very special wedding venue. Their intention
for their guests is to experience a weekend
in the countryside, just like you would get married
in your family's maison de campagne. We've done this home tour in French
but you can turn on the subtitles for your language
in the YouTube settings.
We are in a family home with a library,
a large living room, a dining room with floral wallpaper
in a very vintage spirit, a little bit English,
people tell us, it's very peasant.
So here we already have a library.
It's a room that is very warm,
especially that we want to use more, maybe in winter or autumn.
It's a bit of a cocooning side.
And so there was already a huge library, so we put another one
to recreate what the former owners had done,
which I liked a lot.
With all the multicolored books that you already had for the decoration
when you rented them.
Yes, that's right, because before I had a material rental company
for weddings, so I had a lot of objects that people used
in the decoration of their wedding.
And for example, I had a lot of books, of all colors,
so I could have books for all the possible themes
that people wanted.
The same, the carpets, they were carpets that were used
for ceremonies at weddings.
We had a floor that wasn't very nice in this room
that we're going to redo later.
And so we covered the floor with carpets
and finally it brings a lot of warmth to the room.
With all the DVDs for the children.
That's it, like in a real family home.
So this is an old typewriter that dates from the 1920s
and is often used by couples who get married at our house
to do a staging at the level of the gold book.
It brings a little vintage touch that they like a lot.
And here is the living room.
With a nice view of the pond, which is very soothing.
And a big flower sofa that my mom had bought
before we got to the house, I think.
He dragged it for a very long time at home
because she had a crush on it and she said to herself,
well, it has to be there, I can see it.
In fact, we had made a first visit to the house.
We hadn't decided to buy it yet,
but a week later, I go to Emmaüs and I see this sofa
and I said, but in fact, this sofa is made for this room.
And even if my husband hadn't said OK to buy the house yet,
I already had the sofa to put in this room.
And in fact, when I visited this house for the first time,
it really reminded me of a family home
where I spent a lot of weekends when I was a child.
And for example, in the living room of this house,
there were flower sofas.
And I think that when I saw this sofa there,
it was a bit of a reminiscence of this sofa
that was in my family home.
The entrance floors were also very close to those.
And suddenly, it reminds me of a lot of good memories
and I want people to live the same thing
as me, what I lived in this house.
I am lucky in my family,
there were several beautiful family homes.
And suddenly, I have a lot of memories of cooking
in those places.
And that's what we want to offer people.
We realize that not everyone is lucky
to have beautiful family homes in their family.
And suddenly, we want to give them the opportunity
to come and spend a weekend in a house like this
to create unforgettable memories.
This is a family buffet that we had for a very long time,
but which was in a attic.
And here it is, he was waiting for us to leave this house
to find his place.
And finally, we left him this slightly patinated side
and we could have repainted it,
but we like the painting like that,
a little worn out,
but which gives a lot of charm.
My uncle did it.
And otherwise, there are plenty of them
that as soon as we go to Emmaüs
or things like that,
she buys them all.
And there are everywhere.
I do a razia on all the flower paintings
that I come across.
What we also like about this house
is that we have old windows with bubbles
because they were made by hand.
And it really has a lot of charm.
Unfortunately, they only have a few left,
because as they break,
we replace them.
But I hope we'll be able to keep as many as possible.
So the chimneys,
they are too old to be used.
They should be restored.
So in the meantime,
I just put a railing with a curtain.
It's really simple.
It's just a railing that sticks
between the two sides
with an old fabric inside.
And it's true that instead of having a black hole,
it brings a little heat
and additional textiles.
So here we have preserved the old chimneys
which must date from the 18th century
at the time of the construction of the house,
which was enlarged as it grew.
But here we are really in the oldest part.
We arrive in the dining room,
where we see the tomatoes are much more recent
because in fact the house was set on fire in 2000.
And so they had to redo a part at that time.
So in this room,
we kept the spirit of the parishioners
that we love here.
We put a large table
that can still be enlarged
so that we can welcome large families without any problems
and that everyone feels comfortable.
These are tables that you built?
Yes, we can say that these are tables that I made myself
and that were put up for rent
when I was renting for weddings.
And we still have a chimney
with a little pink curtain this time.
So that our guests feel like they are in a family house,
we filled the cupboards with old dishes from the parishioners.
Like that, it's like at grandma's,
we find the plates that are not necessarily all the same.
We kept the colors of the dining room,
but all the plates are different.
But suddenly, sometimes people are a little worried.
They tell me, we broke a plate,
we are really sorry.
But in fact, the house is made to live.
These are dishes from the parishioners that we chiseled,
so it's easy to find one to replace.
It doesn't matter.
So in this kitchen,
we tried to bring a bit of a real countryside side
because the furniture was already there.
But it's furniture that's starting to be a bit dated
and that lacks a bit of charm.
So while waiting to do it again later,
I put my plates, baskets,
objects a bit like that to bring a bit of charm.
Same, this counter, we had it for a very long time.
He had never found his place.
And then finally here, he's doing very well.
And then the door on the countryside side,
which is missing from the other furniture.
But it will come later,
to do something more in that spirit,
in the whole kitchen.
So we tried to equip this kitchen
so that it can be used by our hosts
to make the side dishes, the breakfast.
But on the other hand,
in the reception bar for weddings,
we have a reserved corner for the waiters.
So here it's mostly for breakfast
or the meal of the day before.
But we still equipped it enough
so that it's at the level
for if the grooms decide to have an outside chef come
who will prepare their meal
because they don't want to take care of it at all.
That it's still the equipment
to do something right.
It's a bit like a small breakfast room.
It's for breakfast with a view of the park.
It's also a room that can be used
to spend time playing board games.
We tried to put some board games,
puzzles for winter or fall parties.
Here we had this big cupboard
that didn't have much charm.
So we said to ourselves,
we're going to put some plates and some frames
and then it's enough to do the job.
So in this room,
we had the challenge
that behind this curtain
we have the washing machine and the laundry dryer
and we had to hide that part.
So we had these old doors
that we had found in the right corner
and so we tried to recreate a little curtain
to hide it.
And then we took the opportunity
to create a small bench.
It's practical when you go to the garden
if you want to take off your shoes,
put on boots.
Here we make available to our visitors
coffee capsules from Café Joyeux.
Café Joyeux is a company that was created
to allow people
who have a mental disability
such as autism or autism spectrum disorder
to be able to work in a benevolent environment.
We think that's great.
So we wanted to honour them
and to make their work known
to all the people who come here.
We realized with my husband
that as soon as we're here,
when we work outside,
we always have a straw hat on our head
to protect us from the sun.
And for us,
it really became the symbol of the field.
The straw hat.
So we make available
hats that we've sewn all over the place.
There's still a lot of painting to do.
So we're going to start with the suite
that we reserve for the groom.
We have a first room with a view of the park
which is used for the wedding preparations
with the large mirror
so that she can admire herself
with her beautiful dress.
And here we created a small space
for her to put on make-up.
This is the green room.
The wallpaper was already there originally.
So this is an old Chinese door.
It was already sanded like this
with this patinated side
and it easily found its place here.
I just cut it in half
to make two bed heads
so we can move the beds away if necessary.
These are air lamps
that were made of very dark wood
that I found on Le Bon Coin.
A coat of paint,
a little bit of new abajour
with a little ribbon
and that's it.
It does the job perfectly.
So there's a small bathroom
right next to the bedroom.
All the bedrooms
don't necessarily have a bathroom
but at least they all have a sink
in their bedroom.
It's more convenient
to take a shower.
And this bathroom was already there.
We just added a wallpaper
but otherwise it was already like that.
And then we put some Chinese objects
to give it a little bit of character.
And for the little frames
that we installed,
we kept the exotic spirit
that was on the wallpaper
with the elephants that we added.
So let's continue this way.
We have three more rooms.
We have the pink room.
So this room
had an orange wallpaper
that wasn't very nice.
It's the only wallpaper
that I wanted to cover.
So we just put a coat
of pink paint on it.
We created a bed head
with an old closet door.
And then that's it.
And here, we like to decorate it.
So all the pillows
are made of Chinese
or made with old fabrics
and decorated as well.
In the floral style that we like.
This room doesn't have a bathroom
but on the other hand
it has this little sink
in the closet.
In fact, the ceiling was already painted
and there were small imperfections
on the edges.
So rather than repainting the whole ceiling,
I just did that for the moment.
It's a bit of a cashmere.
So this is a lamp
that I chiseled
for three francs six sous.
But I didn't have a lampshade.
So I used an old lampshade
that wasn't very beautiful anymore.
It was a bit stained.
And I just covered it with fabric
with a little hot glue.
And then that's it.
This is the yellow room.
In this room,
we tried to create
a bit of a travel style.
So we put armchairs
with a bit of a colonial style.
We put old geography books,
old globes,
an old malle en osier.
And in the closet,
of course,
we still have a sink
and then a shower.
So this is the only room in the house
that overlooks the park.
In addition to the groom's room,
all the other rooms
overlook the front of the house.
It has a beautiful view of the park.
We also have a small sink
in the closet,
like in the other rooms.
And a bedside table with an old door.
Yes.
We made the bedside table
by fixing it.
Rather than fixing it to the wall
and making an additional hole,
we just hung the old door
on the two nightstands
at the right distance.
That way, everything holds up well.
In each room,
we put a small low table like this
so that when we arrive,
we can put down our suitcase.
Because often when we arrive
in a place,
we don't know where to put our suitcase.
So we put it on the floor,
but it's a little low.
We put it on the bed,
but that way,
we know where to put our suitcase.
It's easy.
So on the floor,
we still have three additional rooms
with two bathrooms
to accommodate
a total of 15 people
in this house.
And now we're going to see
the reception bench.
So to welcome the weddings,
we completely renovated
this bench
which was starting to fall apart.
It took us two years.
We have a first room here
that can be used for the cocktail
or for a ceremony
if the weather is not very nice,
or possibly also for children
or a dance floor.
For the moment,
we left the raw soil like this,
but the idea is to later
put tomatoes in it
like we did
in the rest of the barn.
So here are the toilets.
We used
old doors for each room,
recovered,
with a small flower curtain,
obviously,
to stay in the spirit of the domain.
For the washbasins,
we used an old table
that we had for a very long time,
and we chiseled three identical washbasins
on the right corner,
and there you go,
a small curtain,
and it's perfect.
We put old engravings,
botanical engravings,
because it's the spirit of the house.
More flowers.
And this is an old mirror,
an old family mirror,
which also found its place here.
We would have liked to put chiseled lamps,
but for the places
that welcome the public,
we don't have the right
to put old lamps.
We chose to put tomatoes on the floor
to remind us of the floors
of the big house,
which are also made of tomatoes.
These are tomatoes
that are handcrafted
4 km from us.
So when we renovated this barn,
we really wanted to keep
the spirit of the big house.
That's why we put a little bit of color
with this pretty yellow color,
the tomatoes.
Here, we also took the spirit
of the house
by putting old old doors
and old windows
to create a closet,
which means that we are not really
in a party room,
but the idea is to be
in a big dining room
rather than in a party room.
We chiseled several opaline chandeliers
to be able to dress our luminaires.
When the grooms get married the next day,
we put wooden tables at their disposal,
which they can arrange as they please,
and old chairs to keep this spirit
of a family house,
a dining room of a family house,
and not a lambda reception room.
The little windows that we used here,
in fact, are windows that were
in my mother's childhood family house,
and when she renovated her house
and changed the windows,
she had put these little windows aside
and they finally found their place.
And I like the nod to tell me
that there is a little bit of my family history
that came here.
We put all these little old
chandelier bases at our disposal,
and it gives a very champer spirit
to have little bouquets of flowers
all over the place.
And all the doors open on this side.
Like this, we can really have the impression
of being inside, outside,
on a beautiful day,
when it's still very good in the evening,
we like to have dinner outside.
There, like this, we are a little between the two.
When the night gets a little cooler,
we can close,
but it's not bad like that.
The couples also have the possibility
to plan the dinner outside,
under the pre-water,
or in the yard.
So, this year,
we could see that the lawn
did not resist the heat at all.
So there, in the winter,
we will completely rethink the yard
to have plants that resist
and that stay pretty,
whatever the weather,
because it's still not very, very pretty.
This little orange tree
is really a heartbreak.
So we called this type of building
an orange tree,
because in the past,
we planted oranges
in large pots
that we took out in the summer.
But in our region,
winters are too cold
to leave oranges outside.
They would not survive.
So we put the large pots
in rooms like this,
which remained a little cold in the winter,
but which were still
sheltered from the frost.
When we saw the announcement
on Le Bon Coin,
that's what made us
come and visit the house,
because the other photos
of the house were not great.
On the other hand, there was this little orange tree
that really aroused our curiosity
and that we wanted to see in real life.
So it really participated
in the heartbreak
for the purchase of the property.
It is an additional piece,
an asset for your wedding,
because it can be
the place for dinner,
for the day before the wedding,
when we are still in small groups.
It is still good in the evening,
when it is still
a little too cold outside.
So it can be
a very pleasant place
and also very bright
to organize a photo session.
For example, if it rains,
the wedding photos
will not be taken outside,
but we can take them inside
with the view of the park
and then still enjoy
the beautiful brightness
to have beautiful photos.
It is really the spirit of the place
to make available
a lot of beautiful Chinese or non-Chinese objects
that allow the groom
to really personalize their wedding
and to install a bit of decoration
in all the different spaces,
in the garden,
to install small rattan salons
so that their guests
can sit during the cocktail
or in the evening
if they don't want to stay
in the music of the party.
I have so enjoyed this home tour.
It's exactly what I would choose
for my wedding
if I would need to do it again.
