The podcast hosts engage in casual banter about phone mishaps, movie recommendations, and a trip to Las Vegas before welcoming comedian Connor Wood. The conversation focuses on Wood's experience on *Dancing with the Stars*, his transition to New York, his unconventional career path into stand-up comedy, and a humorous discussion on aging, platonic friendships, and the subjectivity of humor.
Hi guys.
So in the car earlier here, I had a situation that happened so annoying, but I think it's
highly relatable.
So we're going to talk about on the pod.
I was drinking my water bottle and I have my phone and the water landed on the screen,
wiped it off, but it must've gone into charging space.
So now I'm going to put in some rice while we do the pod here today.
Are you dropping your phone in the rice?
Dropping it in.
I mean, technically.
It does.
They're supposed to be waterproof.
So it doesn't.
It now doesn't work.
I dropped my phone.
I literally dropped my phone in the bathtub yesterday and my phone's fine.
And did you put it in rice?
Did it work?
I also dropped my phone in the ocean in July.
And it worked still.
My phone's fine.
You have to give it one of these.
You have a phone from like 1904.
I have to spin it when I do it.
Yeah.
Well, it's going to be here for the rest of the pod.
This is a lovely bag of Indian basmati rice.
I'm excited to see if it'll come back to life though.
You're going to de-moisturize it.
They should sell rice specifically for that purpose.
Apple does sell rice.
Apple sells rice?
No.
That was a good one, Joe.
Well, the last time I saw you guys, we were in Las Vegas seeing the Backstreet Boys.
So I had been adamant for months that you guys have to see the show because I saw it
back in the spring.
They announced more dates.
We went out, checked it out, saw the boys beforehand, the Backstreet Men, as it were.
The whole vibe, the white, the whole thing.
It's just, it's perfect.
We thought we were walking into our seats.
The elevator opens and they're just there.
Right there.
In all white.
All the handsome men.
You guys didn't believe me about the all white thing too.
It's a real-
I didn't.
I didn't really know that was a thing.
You had to buy clothes, Kev.
You sent your assistant out to get you clothes.
That's not exactly true, but I'll go with it.
But I definitely-
You were about to say that.
I asked your assistant to get me white clothes.
Yes, you did.
Because guess what?
I packed white.
And then I was like, this isn't the right kind of shade.
Yeah.
Did you end up wearing black pants?
Yeah.
Because I don't have white pants.
Well, I didn't either.
I wore cream.
I actually wore these exact pants that I'm wearing and shoes right now.
You guys look color-coordinated today.
Was that an intention?
We're a little white and red, Joe.
I don't know.
I didn't know.
I didn't notice that.
It's nice.
We look good.
Great.
And Nick's wearing black instead of white.
Again.
Yeah.
Well.
What'd you do last night, Nick?
What'd I do last night?
I know you recorded most of the day yesterday.
I've been recording new music all week.
I watched a movie with a friend, a great movie, that I would suggest.
So I went into the old AI machine and I said, hey, what's a highly underrated movie if you
like Waiting for Guffman slash The Big Sick?
I'm going to guess the friend you are.
You were with Kavanaugh.
Correct.
And it told me, it said, this is a criminally underrated movie called Don't Think Twice
from 2016.
I'm going to watch it tonight.
Written by Mike Bregulia.
It is hilarious.
It's about an improv troupe and basically all of them coming to terms with the fact
that their lives are taking them in different directions.
I'll say no more.
But it has a 98% Rotten Tomatoes score, which is pretty exceptional.
And it held up.
It was great.
Oh, it was phenomenal.
Okay.
We're going to watch it tonight.
I think it is criminally underrated.
Well, we will watch it tonight.
It actually is a perfect segue to our guest today, who, you know, this movie is all about
like bits.
Are you going to say criminally underrated?
That's the segue?
That's not what I'm saying.
He is.
Highly rated.
He's rated.
Very rated.
High rated.
A high rated.
I was so excited when they told us that he was in town and down to come do the podcast.
Because for I feel like years now, we've all seen him on our feeds and loved his bits and
stand up his podcast.
And also now, which was just announced, he's going to be on the next season of Dancing
with the Stars.
He's going to crush too.
Dancing with the Stars.
So I think we should just get him out here and get things going.
Please welcome Connor Wood.
Connor Wood.
Hi boys.
It's so good to see you, man.
Thanks for doing this.
Likewise.
Thanks for having me.
Thank you for wearing red to make Nick feel more out of place than the three of us.
It was great.
I like the black.
It's rare that I wear all black too, so this is, I feel very left out of the red and white
combo.
Hey, congrats.
Congrats, man.
Dancing with the Stars.
Is this season 35 or 36?
35.
That's huge.
I'm stoked.
When did you get the call that it was happening and what was your first reaction?
I got the call the day I signed a lease in New York, which is pure magic because we don't
know what happens.
Right.
Yeah.
So I have this awesome apartment in New York that I searched, you know, New York real estate
while renting apartment real estate.
There's no apartments left.
So I got this awesome.
I was like, this is a dream come true.
And then another dream came true as I signed and moved in.
This is like a completely concrete locked in lease that I have, which is nice.
I'm going to get my security deposit back because I won't have ever been inside.
That's perfect.
That's good.
That's a good problem to have.
Speaking of security deposits, do you have dogs or cats?
I have a dog.
He's with my parents right now.
Max.
Okay.
And where's your parents at?
They're in Houston.
Is that where you're from?
Yeah.
Texas.
We were just talking about Houston today.
We have Texas roots as well.
We were in Dallas for a while.
Actually, which is so funny.
We just announced that we're coming to Houston on our tour.
It was one of the last stops we didn't announce.
That's why we're very topical.
Where should we go in Houston?
Yeah.
Oh my God.
The rodeo?
I don't know.
I'm from a very small town outside of Houston, and I was born in Austin, so I could probably
guide you in Austin more than Houston.
We love Austin too.
We like Austin.
We're going to be there too.
Where should we go in Austin then?
I'll send you guys a list.
I have a running list.
We don't want to put you on the spot.
Yeah.
I have a bunch of stuff.
Okay.
So you signed the lease.
You're locked into New York.
Then all of a sudden, you get this call and they say, hey, we want you on season 35 of
Dance with the Stars with Riley Arnold.
Yeah?
Yeah.
So we have a connection that I've never met her, I don't think, but she's a type one diabetic
as well.
She is.
Yeah, which is great.
She's using her platform to show that you can do anything you want in life while living
with type one.
Happy to see that.
Shout out, Riley Arnold.
She's the best too.
It's super fun.
She's got me back on candy because we work pretty hard and we do pause and take like
candy breaks, which is nice because I get to bring candy.
I'm kind of off candy because I have bad teeth.
I get cavities still.
Me too.
I'm an adult.
We have a whole running thing about how we get cavities and our dentists all don't like
each other on this pod, but that's fine.
I went to the dentist today, Kevin, and I actually told my dentist that we talked ----
about your dentist.
Okay.
You guys are donking on each other's dentists?
Yeah.
Joe had a dentist that he needed some preventative drilling, and we thought that that might have
been a little overreach.
That's a scam, right?
That's a scam.
Walk me through preventative drilling because it sounds like this guy might be doing a little
off the books.
Yeah.
That's what I said.
Well, you know, it was preventative because there were cavities incoming, I guess.
Incoming cavities.
See, that's where I go like, I don't know.
I'm going to pay for this car damage before I got into the accident.
Feels a little like that.
Do you guys have, does anyone have veneers here?
No.
Wow.
Should I get them?
No one has veneers?
None of you guys have veneers?
Should we?
We thought about it.
We just never did it.
So rare that you guys are three for three marked safe from veneers.
Is it?
You've been marked safe by Big Tooth.
Marked safe by Big Tooth.
And none of us had braces for years.
Really?
Yeah.
None of us had braces either, so they're definitely coming for us.
Wow.
It's like the Illuminati.
They talk about the Illuminati.
The real thing is like big veneer coming, knocking on your door.
Interesting.
What else have you learned about Hollywood?
Oh God.
Since yesterday.
Tell us everything.
Big veneers are coming after us.
Your dog is with your parents.
My one thing, this happened to me today, when's the last time you guys went to CVS?
Yesterday.
Pretty recently.
Yesterday?
Where?
In my town in New Jersey.
Okay.
Do you have the buttons that you have to press so that some porcelain has to come over and
unlock so you can buy?
No.
I don't live in Los Angeles.
Lubricant.
Yeah.
But here's the thing.
Lubricant or NyQuil.
They have to stop the Natasha Bedingfield playlist and everyone's going to, excuse me, this
guy in aisle four needs lube bad.
Stop the music and go help him.
Can I get that for you, sir?
But it's weird because there's no crime in Los Angeles, right?
So why would they have to-
Historically, no.
Historically.
No, that's what I mean.
And the roads are great.
I've been loving the roads.
I've heard there's a lot of new fountains pretty much everywhere.
Stop.
Really?
Yeah.
They're just brown.
Yeah.
Gorgeous.
Brown fountains all over LA.
No one's doing it like this for some reason.
But I had to go.
I had to go this morning and because the camera is so close to you, they've got really nice
cameras on Dancing with the Stars.
And it's very, they're so big and they're so far away that you don't realize that they're
really tight on your face.
I have never seen, I was not aware I had, I had nose hairs that like were visible.
Like, I don't know if I'm just kind of locked in on my nose hairs.
And I never even considered that I'm someone that could have nose hairs.
So I went to CVS to get a trimmer.
Yeah.
Nice.
Do you go with a wall?
A wall clipper?
It's a good question.
And I didn't use it, by the way.
They're pretty big.
The ones that have a little attachment at the end.
That thing.
Okay.
Very satisfying.
It wasn't pre-charged, which I don't know why.
But I started getting those like extra long, just random white ones at this point where
just like they just appear, like they're just out of the nose.
And it's like overnight.
It's like, how did they become this long in one shot?
Kevin's old.
Yeah.
He's the old one.
I'm old now.
I mean, I had my first gray hair the other day.
How'd that feel?
How'd it go?
Well, I kind of like, I woke up and I looked at it and I was like, no, you know?
And then I kind of like get my hair wet and I was like, it's probably just like something
I ate yesterday.
You know, like maybe it's mayonnaise or something.
And I wash my hair and I like get it all wet and I move it and I can see it and then I
ruffle it again.
I'm like, maybe I can tuck it back.
Maybe I can tuck it.
Nick had the same moment on the tour bus the other day.
He's like, guys, I found a gray and I'm like, he found one and we couldn't, we couldn't
see it.
I found it.
And I was actually excited and kind of proud because I felt like, oh, he's like filming
it.
He was filming it.
He's like, guys, come here.
And we were like, we don't see it, man.
He was really upset with us because he was trying to, he shamed me.
They're like, you're making this up content.
You're a liar.
No.
Okay.
People deal with this all the time, Nick.
Don't make jokes about this.
Yeah.
If I would've been there, it was, I kind of played it off like, oh, nose hair.
I was kind of stoked.
I was like, I'm like becoming my dad.
I think you should let it ride or until you get a sponsor.
Yeah.
Until you get a nose hair sponsor.
I think it might grow them out.
I think the, the voting audience of, of Dance With The Stars will be thrilled that you have
nose hairs.
Oh yeah.
It's more relatable to man of the people that it's not.
It's more relatable, but also you could get a little sponsor to get those things taken
care of.
Are you running the soundboard?
He's running the soundboard.
Yes, sir.
Fabulous timing.
Whatever you want to hear.
I got a lot of buttons over here.
That's really good.
You know what I'm saying?
Wow.
Oh, I can't stop this one.
Actually, that sound is perfect.
The meaty bass.
How have you been feeling about your prep for Dancing With The Stars so far?
Let's leave this track on.
I'm feeling good now.
I am feeling sore.
Everybody gets in like the best shape of their life doing this.
People keep saying that.
Like, are you getting ripped?
I've put on weight.
Muscle.
Weighs more than.
No, it's fat.
My pants don't fit.
I'm eating so much candy.
I told you.
Like I'm eating Sour Patch Kids.
I'm eating gummy bears and I'm trying to keep it fresh because I want to bring at first
like when Riley and I were meeting and she, she's keeping track because her, she has her
and it goes off.
And so we'll stop and we'll have candy breaks.
And I'm like, you know, as an ally, I'm eating as much candy as she is.
I don't need it.
You know?
And I like that.
But it is, you're working out so hard and I'm feeling so good, you know, and you get,
you guys get like hitting the beats and like making sure you have routines down.
And then I go to sleep and I'm like, I did that ----.
And then the next day I wake up and I go in and she's like, so I changed the dance every
day.
And that's tough because you're going home like ready.
When is it locked though?
Is it?
So you do the dress or something and then at that point it's like, okay, we're not going
to change it anymore.
Or is it just up until the last minute?
I don't know.
Oh my gosh.
Nothing's been told me anything.
Once the spray tan happens, you're locked.
I imagine, I imagine that when you come onto the show, they give you like this big book
and I know this is just not true, but like they come with this binder of all the things
they've learned over 35 seasons and you just get to learn these types of things.
Like at this stage, choreo is locked.
The book doesn't exist.
Is big.
The book is huge.
It's huge.
And it's just like, get ready bitch.
Like every page is just like a warning, but nothing's very clear.
No, it's, it's, it's confusing.
I keep, I keep getting like some foreshadowing and it's like, enjoy this now and sleep while
you can.
I'm like, how will it get harder?
Cause I'm really struggling.
How many flips can I do?
I know.
Well, I can't do it.
I can't lift her.
You know, she's stronger than she's had her biceps.
She has my ideal after body, like in a before and after, um, she's ripped.
And then, so we have a couple of weeks on this one.
This is the most lead up we'll have for a dance.
And the following weeks, it's week by week.
It's every Tuesday.
That's probably the thing, right?
Like then you're like, here's this brand new thing and every day it's going to change,
but then you also have to kind of sell yourself a little bit too, right?
It's bananas.
And this is like all news to me.
I've only danced at weddings.
You know, I recently learned that every 36 minutes, another child in the U.S. is diagnosed
with cancer.
Think about that for a second.
Some of the bravest warriors you'll ever meet aren't professional athletes or superheroes,
but kids in this fight.
And every day, these young warriors face challenges most adults couldn't even imagine, yet they
continue to show up with incredible courage, determination, and hope.
That's why we're proud to support Hyundai Hope on Wheels.
For the past 28 years, with support from Hyundai, their dealers, and every new Hyundai sold,
Hope on Wheels has contributed over $300 million to childhood cancer research, helping save
more than 40,000 kids.
But we're not done yet.
We need your help.
Together, let's bring every warrior home.
Join our fight to end childhood cancer at HyundaiWarriors.com or ask about Hope on Wheels
at your local Hyundai dealer.
I was going to ask, are you a wedding dancer?
Are you a by yourself dancer?
What would you have categorized yourself prior to now becoming a dancing with the stars dancer?
I wouldn't put myself in a category just because I don't want to offend any community.
Any community of dancers.
That's good.
I will be first.
I'm not.
Don't be like Chalamet.
Right?
You're right.
Loving ballet.
We love you, Chalamet.
We're just saying, you know.
I'm not scared to dance in front of the audience until everyone's like, you should be.
Now I'm kind of nervous.
But we should be.
It could be.
It's terrible.
Yeah.
I have that thing.
I just, I do stand up.
Of course.
And it's nice because like, if I, if I mess something up, I will be very open.
I'll be like, I'm going to redo that because this is a good joke.
I'm going to start from the top.
You guys act like I didn't mess that up because if I miss one song or one little beat, it's
like a domino thing.
And then the rest, I feel like it's kind of not like I want to deliver the best.
There's no going back.
I wanted to ask you about stand up and just to take it back one step further.
You start telling jokes and, and, and being funny.
At what point in your life did you know like, oh, I'm, I'm funny enough and I'm gonna take
this career path.
I don't remember anything about my childhood.
My parents said I was funny.
So you had that in, in the, you know, your childhood, they said, you're hilarious.
We're going to make a lot of money off you kid.
Yeah.
They're cash cows.
Um, no, I, I, I, uh, in terms of like career wise, when I got fired from my second job,
I was like, well, what was the second job?
I worked at Bird, the scooter company.
You were doing content for both, you know, Bumble and Bird, right?
I was in the office nine to five.
I was, I was like paying talent to like, and I was like, well, what's up?
This is so cool.
I'm working with talent.
And I'm actually, it's funny.
I'm like working with Bumble now.
I was like on the other side, but I was there.
It takes, it takes about six months for companies to realize that you're not cut out for the
job and you lied on your resume and that was, that was my play.
That's what I was doing.
I like it.
So you don't kite surf.
Got it.
Right?
No.
And I also don't do backend data integration, but I did watch one YouTube video, so I know
how to talk about it.
It's like, yeah.
Yeah.
So do you speak Python or JavaScript?
Which one is it?
I lied.
I had Python, like all of the lingo in my pocket.
I promise you.
It's a good six months.
Please, Claude.
Um, AI.
Um, which one is it?
Do you want to do it for me?
I didn't have AI.
Yeah.
That's wild.
The full circle of working with Bumble yet again.
I know.
And it's funny cause I, I share it, you know, I talk way too much and I'm like telling everybody
about that.
So the comments are like, wow, this is, you used to intern there and like I was full time.
I just acted like an intern.
But my employment came to an end and then I left and I went to bird, which brought me
to LA and I remember I was where I was interviewing for bird and I, I, I kept throwing in the
interview.
I was like, you know, I was hit by a car on a bird and they randomly, I didn't think that
was funny.
And so I kept reading, just double down though.
Yeah.
I kept being like, maybe my delivery was off.
So the comedy was like a little bit coming together while I was, while I was working
office jobs and then COVID hit and I was released from that responsibility.
And then I was full time.
I was just posting tech talks.
And then they were like, I remember someone came to me and they were like, this is stand
up by the way.
If you just make it longer, you just drag it out a little bit.
And then that was the standup beginning.
That's so wild.
Stand up.
We, I've tried it during COVID basically, our little pod, my, my wife and I, and her
cousin and her husband and a friend, we're all standing together.
And we got up like everybody did, we got really bored.
And so every Tuesday or Wednesday night, we would like prepare a tight five and do a bit
in front of each other.
I didn't know you did this.
That's the highlight of my week.
The jokes were terrible, of course, because we're not comedians.
Let's hear one.
Let's hear one now.
They're, they're, they're best kept in the COVID house with the COVID.
But what I learned from even just that is that I'm, I get way more nervous trying to
be funny in front of people than I do like singing or performing.
Yeah.
And, and I think that's because comedy is so subjective.
If someone's singing and it's, it doesn't sound great.
You kind of know that.
You lie to them.
But when someone's like trying to be funny and it's just not, it might not just be for
you.
You let them know.
That is interesting.
I've never thought about that.
I have friends that don't think the things that I think are, are funny and I judge them
for it.
Yeah.
They don't think I'm funny.
So, and we work together every day.
There's a whole lot of people that do Kev that think you're hilarious.
Those are my people.
That's my family.
They're my daughters.
They're 12 and nine.
Those are Kevin's employees.
Hold on.
But this is my, this is my question.
How do you do something that becomes universally funny?
It's hard, right?
To, to find a thing that everyone's like, that is objectively funny.
I love that you asked me that question because it's 100% subjective.
I don't think I'm funny.
You know?
So it's like, it's, it's comedian by comedian.
I would say that the audience you've built, all of us having been impacted by you both
during COVID and now with your career just booming, that you are, you're like funny across
the board.
I like this.
Thank you.
Joe, let's give him some applause.
I will say, I will say it is the simplest things, Connor, because you showed that video
of you in the hotel room in New York and the handprints are on the wall.
That was Joe.
I found it hilarious.
But what I found the most funny about that room is just how small the room is with the
bed in the window.
Like you didn't reference the size of the space.
You just referenced the hand, like I found it absolutely hilarious.
Yeah.
That was bananas.
I did.
I lied.
Did you move rooms?
I was late to something and I had to change and go and then it was late when I got back.
I slept in the bed, but I'm not picky.
I was hopeful that they were your handprints too, but you know, that's just, yeah, that's
the whole M. Night Shalom on twist is that it was my handprints.
I made the bed really tight.
Content, content, content.
That's right.
No, I mean, like I didn't, I don't want to be frank.
I did not.
I'm also like, I'm not super picky.
My immune system is great because of things like that, that I decided to move forward
with doing instead of switching rooms.
But yeah, but that, that was a, that was a very funny thing.
Just like things, moments like that.
Like, I think that the universally funny things are things that you had happened to
her around you.
Like if you're in a car with an Uber and you're like, this would only happen to me, like it,
it happens to everybody.
But when you film it and you talk about it and that's an experience that like is unique
to you, but other people can relate to because they have X, Y, Z and that's always fun.
That's a great point.
I hate to bring up relatability, but like, but before you came on, we were talking briefly
about this movie that I watched last night called don't think twice.
She came out in 2016 about a improv troop.
And it's all that.
They start every one of their shows by saying who here has a particular, who had a particularly
bad day and they build off of that concept.
And it's like things like that.
Like I got in the Uber and the driver was my dad, like, and that was really uncomfortable
because I'm going to a date and it's like just things that happen in real life that
become our way of getting through tough times.
Right.
It's just got to be able to laugh about it.
Switching gears here back to dancing with the stars real quick.
You mentioned you've got a few weeks to prep this one.
As you get into the competition, the flow, is there any one of the other stars that you're
dancing against that you can already tell you're like, that's my mark.
That's my competition.
Yeah.
You're like, I'm going to break their legs.
You do have some history with a few people on the show.
Yeah.
I know a handful of the, the stars.
Yeah.
Sierra Miller, Maura Higgins, Tyler Cameron, of course we have this great shot of you and
Tyler right here.
Get a close up there.
Oh yeah.
That was, that was funny.
Yeah.
We did.
It's very Falun of me actually.
Just pulling this card.
I know dude.
I was like wow.
Look at this.
I'm like, I'm like, yeah.
Okay.
That's all I got.
Like what the **** am I doing?
That's good.
Like, sorry.
You have Jenna who's like obviously a dancer.
Is that going to be like, going to be tough?
You know what sucks is like, you can be a dancer.
Like I'm just praying someone just like sucks like personality wise.
They're not only all hot, like as in sexy.
As in attractive.
As in like I want and I need them.
Take my shirt off.
Can't stop it once it starts.
I like how long this one is.
It's very long.
He can't stop.
That's what she said.
Joe's auditioning to be a stand up right now.
Okay.
Back to this.
Back to sexy, hot, attractive.
I haven't seen anyone dance yet.
But they're all athletes.
They're all.
They're like ripped.
Obviously, Tyler Cameron.
Like, yeah, we should be in a different, like, obviously weight class, but like genuine breed
of people.
Like he's like a different.
I was going to say how funny and interesting would it be if they did do that thing?
You know, people talk about like, what if we had a person to give us a reference point
of like what the average person would do against an Olympic athlete?
And it's like, you see Michael Phelps and whoever go in the pool and then it's just
us.
Right.
And we're just a mile behind at the bottom of the pool.
Okay.
Got it.
Yeah.
So they are really good at swimming.
Oh, yeah.
They're all so good.
It's like by a tenth of a second.
It's like, yeah.
What are you talking about?
Someone like Jenna, who's who's danced, you know, famously in many movies.
It'd be funny to be like, okay, you can, you can't use your left foot.
Right.
Limitations.
Or what's that thing like in ice skating when it's like you can only do a certain number
of spins or tricks, you got to limit her to like.
The difficulty level is like subdued, essentially.
And if she steps outside of that and does a flashy move, it's like penalty.
You're out of here.
Yeah.
I mean, they are so talented and they are like Harry's awesome to Glee.
And obviously Jenna's awesome.
So cool.
And they all know how to do all these things.
And I'm walking out of practice and I do sweat like a lot.
And I'm walking out and it looks like I just jumped in the jumped in a pool when I leave
practice and I'm walking out and I run into Maura Higgins.
Yeah.
Traders.
Traders fame.
Yes.
Traders.
She's just perfect looking.
And I'm like, oh, we stopped dancing 10 minutes ago.
I'm like, you just get here.
She's like, no, we just finished.
And I'm like, okay.
Me too.
It's just like a day.
It's like bizarre.
People are so good.
Everyone's going to be competition.
Yeah.
Oh, we're rooting for you.
I have some unsolicited advice for you on that.
Please.
You didn't ask for it.
So I'm just going to, but you know, you should say, be like, actually, no, I worked out before
it came.
That's why I was already sweating.
Right.
So then after I just had to get a quick lift in prior, as you can, as you can tell by the
way I'm built, I didn't do very excited for you.
It's going to be amazing.
If you're down, we have a few voicemails from our listeners.
Usually our, our callers have, you know, a story to tell and then something they want
advice about.
Cool.
Yeah.
And, and we're not qualified to answer these questions, but we enjoy keep asking.
Hey guys, I really need your help.
Love your new song.
Listen one sad, but the problem is it's got me all in my field and I want to reach out
to my high school sweetheart.
We used to listen to you guys.
And so I'm just feeling super nostalgic right now, but we're both married and moved on with
our lives.
Don't do it.
Feeling nostalgic and chaotic.
Please help me.
Okay.
So first rule number one, stop listening to our song then.
She's married.
He's married.
No, Kevin, listen to more of our song.
Okay.
She's married.
He's married.
And she listened to this song.
We just released a song that's about remembering a summer that felt endless and wonderful with
the person you were when you're 16.
And she's asking if she should reach out to her ex thoughts, concerns.
I don't know what kind of relationship she's in.
She's married.
I feel like she said she's married.
Right.
But it could be, it could be an open relationship and they could both reach out to her high
school sweetheart.
I don't.
They could both reach out.
All right.
I don't know.
It didn't sound like she was particularly unhappy.
It wasn't like she didn't really say like, Hey, that's a kind of against our rules as
a married couple.
They kind of like put it on like potentially knowing that this could go on a live national
podcast.
It kind of sounded like he was behind her being like, and then say, um, like I can come
to.
Yeah.
Yes.
Okay.
Kevin.
Have you seen the invite?
Yes.
Have you seen it?
Yes.
Have you seen it?
I watched it in your house.
Okay.
Joe, you've seen it.
I've also watched it.
We also watched it together.
Yeah.
It's fine.
I forgot.
You guys are forgettable.
Whatever.
What can I say?
You have watched it.
Yes.
It's insane.
I have so many dots.
I like for one thing, and if you haven't seen it, I don't know, like it's, this is not going
to be a spoiler.
It's very obvious.
You can look at the poster and see what's going to happen, but I think it's a, it's
a phenomenal movie.
The entire movie taking place in an apartment, one just in the apartment and two in like
a four hour period is phenomenal.
Like very eight 24.
Right.
It's beautiful.
It's an acting masterclass by Olivia Wilde.
Absolutely.
Her micro expressions were phenomenal.
I thought everybody was just remarkable, but Olivia Wilde was a standout and the fact that
she directed it too is incredible.
It's it's insane.
It's so much to handle and process.
I feel like I have to watch it again just to like go through it.
You have to watch it with Danielle, with your wife.
Yeah.
She's right here.
And now she needs to watch it.
I thought that it was the most fun and innovative, creative, interesting kind of a place to,
to just set a story and the whole thing.
And I thought that Olivia did an amazing job directing, interacting was phenomenal.
Also the rest of the cast out of this world, I think they should all be nominated.
We've lost the plot.
Why did you bring this movie up in the first place?
Because more than one people are invited to the party because they might all sleep together.
Yeah.
I did.
Yeah.
I brought, I kind of brought orgy up.
This is my fault.
So there might be a situation where everybody, to your point, she might be like her and her
partner would be like, yo, should we reach out to, he's cute still, should we reach out
to him?
And as long as your partner's down and their partner's down and everybody's cool with it,
so be it.
Yes.
I think that's good advice.
Or go to therapy.
And if that's not, that's not cool with everybody involved, go to therapy or just don't text
him.
Text your friend.
You have options.
Yeah.
I think that that could be, you have several options besides.
Yeah.
There's options.
Uh, this is a question from one of our amazing, uh, HeyJonas listeners from Kate says, people
are very interested, uh, invested in you and Brooke to the point that there are TikTok
edits of the two of you.
Have you guys, uh, seen the edits of each other and, and what do fans see as romantic
that to you is just completely normal, Brooke and Connor being.
Yeah.
I think it's, it's so crazy to me.
Yeah.
She's like one of my best friends.
I've seen the edits.
I'm a narcissist.
I see.
I see the edits.
Um, I, it's crazy to me in 2026 that the idea of, of a guy and a girl being friends in a
platonic way are so groundbreaking that they need us to be married.
Yeah.
That is true.
We've got to normalize male, female friendships.
Yeah.
It's like seeing an albino animal at the zoo.
I'm like, there's only one of these.
Wow.
This is cool.
I'm going to make an edit of it looking up with the zebra and the other pen.
Yeah.
That's a good, do it.
Do it.
Why not?
We're so young.
You guys.
We also have our bowl of questions here.
Um, which for some reason we always explain to our guests what it is, but it's a bowl
of questions.
It's good, Nick.
It's the mirror eight ball.
Get it?
Oh, cool.
Yeah.
It doesn't have anything to do with your career or your life, but it's just, you know, I reach
into the bowl.
Yeah.
How did you get in here?
Hmm.
Ouch.
Who invited you?
What's an item you refuse to throw away, even though it serves absolutely no purpose.
Ooh, that's good.
I just had like a really cathartic come to Jesus moment when I moved apartments and I
saw how much stuff I have, like physical thing.
Cause I think I'd be a really good minimalist.
I'm a minimalist.
And we thought that was hilarious because she's not, but yeah, no, it's a minimalism
is a mindset.
You can be a minimalist with like 10 coats, but what is the thing that you would, uh,
this is disgusting.
I'm going to say it though.
When I moved to LA, um, I was eating a lot of trader Joe's frozen food.
And when I moved out of my first apartment in LA, I was totally packed up and I was like,
I better check like the fridge and I want my security deposit back.
So I checked the freezer and there was a little frozen meatball at the bottom of my freezer
by itself, not by itself though.
It was sitting atop a frozen little mini New York, not New Yorkie, like Stromboli, like
little.
Yeah.
And it looked like it was wearing like a little graduation cap, a little meatball with a graduation
cap.
And I was like, you're coming with me.
And the beautiful thing about trader Joe's is there's so many preservatives in that food
that has moved with me from apartment to apartment for five years.
I had your mascot.
And I think it's a good testament to how we are constantly graduating and moving forward.
And we can't look back cause we're not going that way.
Oh my God.
I love this.
And I love that for your meatball.
As you were talking about this, I was, I was reminded of that great, um, Pixar short bow.
You ever seen that?
I love that.
Oh yeah.
That was so good.
I was like, how great would a story be about a little Italian meatball who all he wants
to do is be the first member of his meatball family to go to college, walk across the stage,
to graduate.
Can I write this please?
And he finally does it.
Moves to LA and ends up, it's a, it's a heartbreaker.
Ouch.
Maybe he doesn't want to take over the family restaurant.
Exactly.
He doesn't want to do it.
He's like, ma, pa, I want to do something bigger with my life.
I want to be an architect.
He doesn't want to be in the pasta.
He wants to be in the sandwich.
Why am I about to cry?
It's the origin story of Chef Boyardee.
Oh my God.
It's the prequel to his, his biopic.
Yeah.
Wow.
I'm, I'm, I'm signing up for that.
I'm inspired.
Wow.
As long as you play the dad.
Also Verda trademark.
I feel like that's a really good idea that we should capitalize.
I think it's a home run.
Powered by Jonas.
Here we go.
Pixar is calling.
We're so excited for you.
It's going to be an amazing run on, uh, Dance with the Stars.
We hope that you got my vote, buddy.
Make it to the final round.
win the whole damn thing.
Um, we're thrilled to have had you on the pod today.
Thank you.
Thank you guys so much for having me.
We'll see you in LA.
Later.
Woo!
