AI GeneratedScott from Kentucky Ballistics tests four different firearms to determine the most effective \"shower gun\" for home defense. By simulating a soapy, wet environment, he evaluates each weapon based on grip, functionality, ease of reloading, and accuracy while dealing with soap in the eyes.
What's up everybody? My name is Scott. You're watching Kentucky Ballistics,
and today we're going to talk about shower guns. Hold on one second though.
I never can figure it out. You know, there's so many settings about it nowadays.
So on the internet I've seen a lot of debate over the years over shower guns. I've seen
some memes made about it, and apparently somebody actually had a shower gun and used it to defend
their home. I don't know if that was true or not, but today we're going to find out if you were to
utilize a shower gun, what would be the appropriate type of gun to have for your shower gun for home
defense. Today I'm going to look for what I can aim with the best, what functions the best, and
what I can hang on to the best when soaped up in the shower. How did that get there? That's
totally not for me. Okay, let's get this shower going. So our first shower gun is going to be a
good old pump action 12-gauge. This is probably the most common home defense weapon. This is a
12-gauge shotgun chambered in two and three quarter inch or three inch shells. It is a Maverick 88.
Oh, that water is really cold. Okay, let's get it good and wet. So now we need to get a little sudsy
because if you're in the shower, you're going to be all soapy, right? So I need to get soapy,
get my hands all soapy. The gun kind of soaked up. A little bit on it. There we go. All right,
nice and soapy. Somebody is in my home. I think I hit like two out of five times
on the target. We're out of ammo, so now we need to reload. Let's take my soap here.
We'll also store my shells. It should be in there. There we go. Oh, all right. Shoot.
This is actually good that I dropped them because it kind of like rinses them off a little bit.
Three, four, and five. Okay. Oh, I got soap in my eyes.
Okay, hold on a second. I got my left eye working right now. Okay, so I will be ranking these at the
end of the video, but as for now, I would say that this pump action 12-gauge shotgun actually
did pretty well as a shower gun. Let's try out our next gun. All right, so we did the pump action
12-gauge shotgun, which is a very popular home defense firearm. Next, we are going to do a Glock.
This is a Glock 17 chambered in nine millimeters, and I'll be loaded up with some Underwood ammo
full metal jackets. Oh, it's cold. Okay, get this up here. That looks good. Actually, I'm just going
to keep it down there. I mean, it's a Glock, right? So it should be fine. You get a little soapy again.
Make this fair. I got soap in my eye again. I get the gun getting soapy.
Okay, oh, someone has broken into my home. All right, wrecking the slide. It's not happening.
Okay, so this is where you want to use this rear sight. Find somewhere on your shower,
and you should be able to wreck the slide. All right, now I've got soap in my eyes. I can't see
very well. Hold on. Wait. That one shot should be enough to at least make them take cover while
you get the soap out of your eyes. Okay, we're back in business. Oh, soap in my eyes. It's really bad.
My left eye is on fire. Just saying. So now I need to reload.
There we go. There it is. Okay, that's good there. Oh, dear. All right.
Okay, there's a problem, but the gun's going off. It's flinging soap into my eyes. That's a problem.
Oh, now the good thing about a Glock, it's pretty heavy. This is unloaded. I'm out of ammo.
Now I can just throw it at the intruder. That's pretty close.
We got, oh, again, I cannot. When this is covered in soap, you can't wreck the slide back. I got
no mud in there. We're good. Okay, well, the Glock, surprisingly, gave me more trouble than I
thought it would have. I thought it would have performed a little bit better than what it did,
but I still think it may be a good option. Let's move on to our next shower gun. So,
our next firearm to try out as a shower gun is going to be a stub nose revolver.
Now, the meme I saw of the shower gun involved a gun about this size inside a case. This is a
Ruger LCR. It is chambered in 38 special and holds five rounds. So, what I like about this option is,
unlike the Glock 17 and the shotgun, you can actually conceal this in the shower. So,
I'm going to take this and just kind of cram that there. See? Perfect. There we go. It's like
it's not even there. Now we'll get our ice cold shower turned on again. Okay, let's take another
shower. This is actually how many times I shower a day anyways, because I get stinky. You know
what I'm saying? Rub-a-dub-dub. Oh, someone has broken into my home. Okay, it's kind of hard to
get out of there. Come on. There we go. Okay, we're going to be careful not to. Oh dear.
Honestly, I don't know if it would be safe to fire your revolver in this condition because
that barrel is full of soap. So, you're going to have to open it. You're going to have to wash it
out and hope that whoever's broken into your home does not know the layout of your house
and has not made it to your bathroom yet. It's looking better. Hold on. Turn up the shower
pressure. Okay, that barrel looks clear. Okay, there we go. All right.
Having the same issue as the Glock. It's throwing soap into my eyes. Ah, I can't see right now.
Okay, now we need to reload. It goes out up here. There they are. Yeah.
Okay, this is difficult. Ow! That soap's in my eyes again. I cannot see.
I'm going to have to load with my eyes closed. Oh, it burns. Shoot. There's one. I'm trying.
I'm trying. There we go. There we go. Okay. All right. I got one. One more.
Throw it at the sealant. Should make it. Somebody's fired. I'm going to be completely honest.
I'm really surprised I hit that target at all. That revolver is not known for being very accurate.
There we go. Still looking good. No dirt in it. I did not manage to hit the target with this
revolver either. This performed a lot better than I thought it would. I did not have very high hopes
for the snub nose revolver, but it surprised me a little bit. So now let's move on to our
last option when it comes to shower guns. So today we have tested out a pump action shotgun,
a semi-automatic handgun, and a revolver. So in my opinion, there is only one type of gun to test
out left, and that is the most popular rifle in the United States, the AR-15. This is an AR-15
chambered in 5.56, and I'll be loaded up with 20 rounds of Underwood ammo 5.56. Fourth shower
of the day. Go ahead and get suds up again. Actually, I need to go ahead and suds up this
rifle. You know, there we go. Oh, I got some on the optic. That's something you wouldn't think
about. There we go. Okay. Oh, water's cold. Oh, somebody has broken into my home. Good thing I
have my shower AR-15. Okay, I can't see through the optic. I've got water or soap on the optic.
Okay, that's rinsed off a little bit. Let's see if we can rack it. Oh, I got soap in my eyes.
Okay, there we go. Can't see. Okay, gonna have to. Oh, I can't even see the target.
It's just a blur from the soap on this optic.
Oh, okay, still pretty accurate. But again, soap is flying into my eyes or is seeping down
and I cannot see. Also, my optic is very sudsy, so it's hard to see through it. So I'm basically
just getting kind of a blurry blue object in the middle, and I'm trying to keep it on there. So
next, we got to reload. The soap in your eyes is the biggest factor here. Oh, there we go.
I'll be really curious to see if this works. Okay, not bad. Not bad at all. Oh, that's right.
I fired it. Okay. AR-15 actually did a lot better than I thought it would. This may have been
the most effective shower gun today, but real quick, I'm going to get all of them together
and I'm going to give them a quick ranking. Okay, so starting out with the revolver,
this actually surprised me quite a bit when it came to accuracy. I managed to get most rounds
on target. I did like that there is no slide to rack back, so we don't have to worry about that
and worry about soapy hands. But the one problem with this is the reload. When I opened this up
and tried to put more rounds in it, it was very, very hard, especially when they were soapy.
And once I got soap in my eyes and I could not see, it was very, very difficult to get those
in there. All in all, it did surprise me though, and I thought this was a pretty good option when
it comes to a shower gun. But when it comes to a ranking and it compared to the other guns,
I'm going to give this a 4 out of 10. Up next is the Glock. Now, the Glock is known for being a
very rugged and reliable firearm, but in the shower scenario, it actually had a hard time.
If this was already loaded, it would be a different story, but trying to rack that slide back with
soapy hands was pretty much impossible. I was able to get most of my rounds on target, but it was
flinging soap into my eyes, which kind of makes aiming difficult. Reloading was not that difficult
because you just have to put one mag in, and as long as your slide is locked back already,
it shouldn't be a problem. This performed pretty well, but it still has its flaws. I'm going to
give the Glock 17 a 5 out of 10. Moving on to the shotgun. I did not think that this would be a very
good shower gun, but I think it proved me wrong. Seems like the biggest problem today with a
shower gun is your slippery, soapy hands. With this shotgun, I have three points of contact
instead of two. One on my shoulder, one here, and one here. It makes it very easy to hang on to,
and I can get a really good grip on that forend. I wasn't super accurate with the shotgun, but I
still got enough rounds on target to feel pretty good about it. The only problem with the shotgun
was reloading. Those shotgun shells were very slippery, and actually, I think all of them fell
out of my hand at one point. All that being said, I think that the 12-gauge pump-action shotgun is a
pretty good option for a shower gun for home defense, and I'm going to give this a 7 out of 10.
And last, we have the AR-15, and in my opinion, this was the best shower gun today. The only issue
I had with the AR-15 when it comes to functionality was just pulling the charging handle, but there's
still enough meat there for you to really get your fingers on it, and even with slippery fingers,
it wasn't a problem. My shower is about to blow away. The suds on the optic did cause an issue,
but as long as you're not overly generous with your body wash, I think you'll be okay. But even
with that, I could still make out a blurry object in the middle and was able to put most of my
rounds on target. Reloading was also not an issue at all. It was the easiest to reload out of the
four firearms we had today. As for the AR-15 as a shower gun for home defense, I'm going to give it
a 9 out of 10. There is no perfect 10 out of 10 when it comes to a shower gun, unless you had a
nuclear submarine. Now we got some rain coming in, so we're gonna have to end today's video,
because I don't want to get wet. I hope you enjoyed it. If you did, be sure and give it a like and hit
