Tassel Flower Embroidery Tutorial 🌸 How to Stitch Fluffy 3D Flowers

Hi everyone! Welcome to my studio. Natalie with you and I'm going to be continue stitching my sampler volumetric flowers and today I'm going to be stitching with you tasset flower that you can see here. I already tested this flower on my testing hoop and this is how it looks like. I really love how it turned out. I just was playing with colors, this time I was playing with blue colors and today I will show you how to stitch it. So yeah, let's start. So first step we need to choose the colors. I will be stitching with some purple colors like this and I found this encore skein. I recommend to use the threads from straight from the skein and avoid the situation where your embroidery threads are zigzagged like this. If you use embroidery threads from the bobbin. So for this kind of flower, for the petals, I recommend to use the floss from the skein and you can mix the colors. You can find some leftovers like similar colors that you can mix with this one. See, this one is a little bit lighter and you can also mix this color. You can take some multi-colored or variated skein of embroidery floss and play with this. So yeah, experiment with different colors. If you want to know exact plain colors that you can try for this color that I'm using right now. So approximate colors are going to be those colors. You can take a little bit of this one, a little bit of this one and a little bit of this one. I think this is a nice variation of different colors. If you don't have any embroidery threads in the skein, you can just use, make those threads a little bit wet. A little bit like iron it a little bit like so it will straighten them and then you can use them for this flower. So let's start. I will take, I will use all six strands. So the main color will be this one. It's like between this one and this one, something similar. See, you can mix those. So I take all six strands and what you can do is, I'm rubbing three fingers. I'm rubbing it around the fingers. The more fingers you will rub, the bigger the flower will be, right? So I'm rubbing about 10 times. So this is how it looks. So you have like this kind of situation with your embroidery threads and we'll be like folding it in half. Now you can cut it, you can add some more colors to it. So I'm cutting them here and I'm also cutting them here. So I have a bunch of colors and I want to add some variation of different, other different colors. So I will add this one. I just wanted to make multicolored the way I made for the blue flower. It was pretty, super pretty one. And I also want to add some light shades. If you use some multicolored embroidery skein, like you only need one skein and you can use that one maybe. Find some different colors, some fun colors that you can use. So now I want to do, here's what I want to do. I want to mix those. So I have this color, this color and this color and I want to mix them. I add a little bit here, a little bit here. If you are making the plain color, you don't need to do that. It's just me playing with different colors because I just want to make it look so cute. You can also use some thread scraps from your projects. It can be like a completely different color, it's like colorful flower. You usually have similar pieces of threads left from your project, so go ahead and use those. I think it's gonna turn really, really cute. So now I'm putting this all together and now I'm switching to this color. I will use this color for the bottom part of the flower and I will also use all six strands and I will use embroidery needle for a cross stitch. It has a blind tip and a big eye and it's gonna be much more comfortable to do the bottom part. So I will thread this needle. I will start it with a way knot. You can watch this tutorial later. I will attach the link on the bottom and I come up on the bottom right here where our flower will start. It will go up. So I come up, I put all these threads here and I will anchor those threads with a few stitches so they will stay here like this way. So this should be somewhere in the middle. Don't worry if your ends are uneven, you'll cut them later. You'll give it a little haircut so the flower will be really looking really cute. And now I suggest to make one more stitch for anchor to secure those threads in place. I think two times is enough and now we are just wrapping it up like this and I will come up on the right side here, maybe a little bit lower, somewhere here and on the left side like this. And this is what we have. We will cut this all, shape it so it will look really nice later. From here I recommend to anchor those threads so it doesn't interfere with our stitching, right? Let's do that. I will do this with another needle and another thread. I will put it aside, put it here for later. I will continue stitching with this green thread. I just need to attach those close to the fabric. You can use any kind of cord, just some piece of thread that you have. We will just remove it later. Okay, I will just attach it right here so it doesn't move. This is temporary. You see why I do it. Okay, we'll remove this later and now we continue stitching with this green thread. So from here you can choose whether you do it easy way or whether you do it a little bit much more complicated way like I did for my flower here. See? This is the second way, a little bit more complicated. And I will show you how to do it on this tutorial. The easy way is you just can cover this bottom part with a side stitch. You just come up here, go down here, come up here, go down here and so on. So it will just create a little side stitch on the bottom of this flower and easy peasy. And you finished. If you want a little bit more texture which looks more like a real flower, see? You can try another way that I will show you now. So let's do it a hard way, okay? So where I came up? Okay, I came up here and I put my needle down here. So I come up on another side and I use blind needle. Hi Karina! Thank you so much. I'm so glad you like this stitch. So now we start doing a blanket stitch. I recommend to turn your work upside down so it's going to be more comfortable for you. I cannot do this on the video right now so I just go from here. You can pull it with your finger to help yourself to go through and we are doing the blanket stitch. I'm wrapping my needle this way and I go through. I'm trying to not pull the threads, but see? Sometimes it happens. It's okay, I can just pull it off. It's fine. Let's try to continue. Yeah, these are too short so they just keep pulling off. I'll put them on the side. So it will look like knitting, you see? I recommend to not tie it too much, just make those loops not too tight so it's going to be easier to go through after when you will be doing the second row. Let's twist it. It was much easier when I was just keeping my hoop in my hands, but not so easy for the video tutorial. See? Why I use blind needle is because I don't want to split anything else. I want to go exactly under this stitch and you can use the eye of your needle and go using your eye of the needle like this way. You can go this way, like this. If you don't have this kind of blind needle, you can go using your needle eye. So now you can just put your needle down and go through the fabric and this row is finished. Now I come up on another side and continue doing the same thing. I go through the loop of my previous blanket stitch, I go through it and create another blanket stitch from it and this creates the second row. It takes time. You need to go through the loop. So I'm going through this loop, I can wrap my needle this way and go down. So I need to go through the loop with my needle every time so it creates a blanket stitch like this. It looks like I got used to do it this way, like this. How do you like it so far? I think it's really fun and textured kind of stitch. Do you think you could use it for some of your projects? I just got inspired by summer flowers I see here and I saw all the flowers all the time in Ukraine too so and I created a design. I'm working on it and I will share it as soon as it's ready. See when I come up here on the opposite side I make a little space, I go a little bit below so it will be connected to the other blanket stitches that I'm making like this. Looks like my petals are too short and I accidentally pull the threads so I suggest for you to make them a little bit longer so it's going to be more comfortable to work with. See some threads are shorter than this, at least this long so it's going to be more comfortable to work with. Everyone has different size of their fingers so maybe try three fingers, maybe try four fingers. So I just continue working, moving down. It will take some time. The other day after watching you stitch the dandelion flower I looked up tasset stitch to see what the next flower might be but everything came up as tassel with L instead of T. I could not find the same tasset anywhere. Is it the name actually tasset or I'm not sure now. I will google and I will let you know. English is not my native language so maybe I made a mistake with the last letter. I will double check. Thanks so much for bringing it up so maybe if I made a mistake I will fix it in my book and in my videos and everywhere. I also learned one thing if you want to make it bigger like those blanket stitches if you want to make them bigger you can make one more horizontal straight stitch and when you do the blanket stitch you can go through the blanket stitch and through this additional stitch and it will make blanket stitches larger. So if you want larger blanket stitches like larger than this you can do it by this additional stitch. I love actually that it creates a knitted effect and maybe we can use this for something else. Maybe we can use it for stitching some clothing like knitted clothing to create texture. It's really really fun. So as this part is reducing in size I recommend to skip one blanket stitch on the left and skip one blanket stitch on the right so it will be like rounded shape. See? I accidentally split the thread here. I will try to go through one more time because if I will pull it will pull the threads from here and I try to avoid it. So I try to go through again without splitting anything and now I can safely pull through. And when I go through I just slightly push with my finger I just push it up so I don't split anything and it's more comfortable this way to go through exactly through the loop that I need. I will skip one blanket stitch already on this side and I will come up a little bit closer on this side so I will reduce in size this part on the bottom and skipping one loop here on the right already. I will do just a few blanket stitches from here and it will close this part. I really love the texture. It's so volumetric. It's perfect for this kind of sampler. That's all for this bottom part. I really love it. It's like volumetric. It's so cute and I love to touch it as you can see. I will finish the strut later and now I can undo those stitches on the top. I will release the petals and I will give it a little hair card and shape it the way I want. See you can create even longer struts so you don't have those shorter ones like I have right here. Just feel free to create a longer strut. Rub more fingers. You'll just cut it later so don't worry if they are too long. You will shape it the way you want to be. The last part is to cut it. I recommend to use a piece of paper behind this flower so you don't cut anything extra. Just to be safe. Let's cut it and shape it a little bit. I won't be cutting like too much. Cutting too much. Just a little bit to shape it because the struts are not too long and you can also fluff it up using this eyelash tool that I happen to find very useful you know. This is eyelash brush. You can find it in Dollarama. Brush it a little bit. Let's cut a little bit more. Create a nice beautiful shape like this. Yeah it looks cute. I wish I wouldn't have those shorter struts like right here but it is fine. I will leave it as it is. This is like part of the process. This is a sampler. It's not a beautiful perfectly beautiful project that you need to make and be proud of it. It's fine. You are testing different kind of stitches here. You're just trying it and this is the story of your experience. This is normal. So if you are happy about something and you want you just can't see it. You want to redo it. It's fine. You can redo it. No problem. Just cut it off and start over. If something looks scary you're not sure if you can make it. Test it on some small piece of fabric first and then do it on this sampler so you will be happy to see it later. So yeah. You just rub more struts. You can do 10 rubs, 15 rubs. Whatever you want to make it flower the bigger or smaller.
