Adolf Hitler's East Prussia Campaign Tour (1932) | Rare Historical Footage

This remarkable archival film documents Adolf Hitler's election campaign tour through East Prussia in 1932, during one of the most intensive political campaigns in German history. Recorded over several days, the footage follows Hitler as he travels between Tilsit, Gumbinnen, Oertelsburg, Hohenstein, Königsberg and other locations while campaigning for the National Socialist German Workers' Party (NSDAP).
The film illustrates the scale and organization of the Nazi election campaign during the final years of the Weimar Republic. Large crowds gather at rallies in Königsberg, Tilsit and Gumbinnen, where contemporary intertitles claim audiences of up to 50,000 people. The footage also shows Hitler's extensive use of air travel, a modern campaign technique that allowed him to appear at multiple events across Germany within a short period of time.
Among the individuals visible in the film are Gauleiter Erich Koch, Hitler's adjutant Wilhelm Brückner, Julius Schaub, photographer Heinrich Hoffmann, pilot Hans Baur, and Ernst Hanfstaengl ("Putzi"), one of Hitler's early associates. The journey includes visits to rural communities, campaign appearances, motorcades, a boat trip on the Masurian Lakes, and a visit to the military cemetery at Hohenstein, associated with the Battle of Tannenberg during the First World War.
The footage also provides extensive views of Nazi organizations in public life, including formations of the SA, SS, Hitler Youth (HJ), the National Socialist Motor Corps (NSKK), marching bands, motorized columns, and ceremonial parades.
Historically, these scenes were recorded during a decisive phase in the rise of the Nazi movement. In the Reichstag election of July 31, 1932, the NSDAP became the largest party in Germany. Within months, Adolf Hitler was appointed Chancellor on January 30, 1933. Following the Reichstag Fire in February 1933, emergency decrees suspended key civil liberties, political opponents were arrested in large numbers, and democratic institutions were progressively dismantled. The Nazi regime would ultimately bring dictatorship, war, genocide, and unprecedented destruction to Germany and Europe.
