The creator returns from the Rocky Mountain Turf Club Live show, documenting the process of unpacking and organizing their model horse collection. Despite exhaustion from the event, they sort through various custom models, resins, and Briars, discussing the performance of specific pieces in competitions and planning future sales to refresh their show string.
Welcome to DJB Studios in the morning.
This is all of my show stuff, which is slightly on camera, slightly off camera, but I thought
it would be fun to film putting it all away.
I am exhausted today.
If my energy levels are not quite what they should be, that is why.
I just came back from the two-day show, which was Rocky Mountain Turf Club Live, and it
was a lot of fun, but both days went really late, so we didn't get home until 11 o'clock
last night.
I didn't sleep very well for the two nights that we were in the hotel, and we had to get
up really early.
I definitely have taken it easy this morning, so it's already 11 o'clock, but I haven't
even told my watch that I'm awake yet.
It doesn't think I'm awake.
If any of you have been to a live show, you know that it is an intense show hangover the
next day.
I'm starting up here in my living room because I've got to put my customs back in their
empty cabinet in the corner there, and all the briars need to go back in the studio,
so we will move the camera when that happens.
You should show everybody your strawberry cow.
Where's your strawberry cow?
Get your strawberry cow.
Yes!
Ow!
Strawberry cow!
Drop it.
This is the strawberry cow.
I just changed the camera setting because it was acting kind of weird.
I think it's better than before, so we're going to go for it.
All of the ribbons are here, which we're going to have to put on the big wall downstairs.
So we have two champion rosettes and three reserve champion rosettes.
I love when you go to the show and you end up with one of each.
Let's just unpack the models, and then we'll do a haul at the end.
I know that Kai is in this bin.
This is actually Eden's vase.
This is Enigma's vase.
I'm glad I took him because he did actually champ on his vase.
I don't have a very good place to display him because this, unfortunately, I mean, it
could fit on an angle, I guess.
He should be in here because he's so cool.
I need a dusting cloth, however.
This has to be roosted.
Even though it's a glass case, it still gets dusty, and I don't really understand how.
Here's one wing.
These are surprisingly rigid and hardy, and the sealer on them is really good, so they
actually are fairly easy to travel with.
People are always like, how do you bring this horse here?
It's so crazy.
It's not actually that bad.
He's a pretty rigid creation, even though it doesn't look like it.
Just wrapped him in this giant blanket because things just didn't go plan at the end of the
day.
He is quite durable because I did handle him a lot when I painted him, so I know that all
the sculpture on him is actually quite solid.
So I have to take off all the little tags when I pull them out as well.
So we have to find his second wing before I can put him away for real, and these are
just my house blankets.
Then I have some stickers in here, and I made a wet palette to take for touch-ups.
It exploded, so I now need to wash it out.
Oh, shoot, somebody's base came off.
This came off of a base.
This little thing is so annoying.
This is the second time it's popped off, I swear.
So that's one bin.
So I'm going to throw all this back in, and I'm going to put the rosettes in here.
I'm very excited to share with you some of the stuff that I purchased.
These are a mix of things, so I don't even really remember what's in here.
This is my tablecloth for the show table.
Lots of art in here that I'm going to have to put in my house now because I painted like
a crazy person leading up to the show.
This is Alvarozo, so he can go somewhere else.
And this is my stone bunny.
She can go somewhere else.
And this is Enigma's little flower.
And so this is how I packed my resins, and this is how I packed my custom minis.
So they're all kind of just in these little cases, and they're all going to have to go
in this cabinet.
This one actually lives up here on my chair.
This is Fable, and I'm thinking Fable should go somewhere else.
I don't know.
I'm going to put everybody on the couch.
I have Sonder.
This was my newly finished Doppelgray.
He did really well, actually.
This was my big winner.
He won the workmanship in artist resin.
Reserve champion of workmanship.
Mabel is first.
Basilis.
Then we have the Judas.
Judas missed his class.
I was so upset.
I was distracted.
So I had to show him in the pony class.
And he did actually, I think, place in the pony class.
Enigma lost his tag, so that's fun.
That was not very many horses in one bin.
Here's the other wing.
Yay.
It was just laid on top.
So see, it's like not super hard.
They just kind of lay on top of those bins, and they work really well.
I just am careful not to stack the bins.
Like, there's a certain way I stack them.
So if there's customs kind of in the top, close to the lid,
like the heavy briar bin on top.
So I'm very careful of that.
Here is my Vallejo.
He did okay.
I actually was hoping he would place higher than he did.
I thought he was really handsome on the table.
This guy is my rearing classic.
He did, I think, pretty good.
I honestly don't remember a ton of what happened on that first day
because it was such a whirlwind and such a blur.
And then my little classic Appie that I finished as well.
She's super cute.
And then I have some briars in here.
Then I had three customs, which were the famous guys.
So Yorgie.
Yorgie, Yorgie.
Oh, and Kimisabi.
So I fixed him for the show.
He actually did really well this time.
He didn't do super good the first time.
I had to fix him up, but he's all good now.
So I probably will be selling him.
That was always my intention.
He was just damaged a little bit.
And I think I have one more custom in here, which was Scorpio.
So I also probably will sell him.
So I'm kind of feeling like I'm going to sell off quite a few of these models
because I'm feeling like I need a fresh show string.
I've shown a lot of these multiple times already.
Then in this particular blanket, there is some briars in here.
So I'm going to have to take these downstairs.
Yeah, all of these need to go downstairs.
I need to fit them all into that cabinet.
So I'm going to start with Kai.
Kai lives on the top and he has to have his wings put in.
He's so fun.
Everybody at the show always thinks that he's one piece,
but there was no way I was going to be able to paint this model
having the wings attached to his body.
So he lives up here and I love it so much.
He totally fits in this little spot in our house.
So and then I need somebody to go next to Denali on the top.
Kind of thinking maybe Saunders should go up there.
There's going to be lots of littles that come in here now.
I have a bunch of new work that has not been displayed yet.
So Enigma's little flower.
I don't think he placed in the show at all in his individual class.
He got first and champion in the versatility performance class.
So that was cool.
I'm going to put this rearing guy in the back.
And then Mabel and Judas, two of my faves.
They can go in here together.
Jorg doesn't do as good as he once did.
He's getting old.
A lot of my customs are getting old now.
It's quite sad.
I'm gonna put the Appie, I think, up here.
Some of these are going to be for sale.
So it's going to be ever evolving in here.
Then Kimisabi should fit in there.
Ghost.
Oh, there's so many.
I'm gonna put Ghost down low.
Basilisk down low.
And this guy can go in the middle of these two.
So this is quite the cabinetry.
And these two are not going to be staying here forever either.
I'm gonna put Saunders down low, actually.
Put Mateo up top.
And then I have a bunch of littles that need to go in here.
This is gonna be so full.
So Fable is actually gonna go live in my other cabinet.
Let's open up all these littles.
This is actually my mom's.
This is Wanderlust.
So she has to go to my mum.
She lives in her little cabinet.
Freya is mine.
This is Rita.
So I was actually kind of a little bit disappointed in this artist resin class.
I felt like my models were really well painted,
but they didn't perform to the level that I had hoped.
They did okay, but they didn't do spectacularly.
So I'm going to show you now my whole custom shelf.
Crazy.
It looks so cool.
So many models.
This is the most work I've had in my house in a very long time.
So we are going to continue with the unpacking and the final haul down here now in the studio.
I'm gonna have to go through all of these bins and figure things out,
but I also have like a whole tote of my original finished briars.
Then I also have all my mini briars.
There's a lot of things.
So the first thing I'm going to do is actually go get a laundry basket
so I can start firing out a lot of these pony pouches and like
fabric packing materials that I use every time I go to a show.
I actually don't remember what's in here.
There's bananas that are abused.
My jeans and my shorts.
All of that has to go upstairs.
Sign actually lives in this corner of my studio.
Okay, let's start with the simple custom bin.
So pouches mainly.
Oh, and this was what I won actually.
This was one of my winnings was this wonderful little pouch
and they were made with fabric that came from Japan for the year of the horse,
which is really cool.
But I have a few briars that got put into this bin.
A couple of rarities in here.
Dakota.
I don't think he placed at all actually.
I love him so much.
I always take him and I'm always so excited about him and he never wins.
He never places very highly.
So there's moon warrior.
I think he did okay in the collectability side of things.
My pride and joy is Burbank.
He did okay too.
Not great, but okay.
And then this is just a blanket.
This was all the foam.
So what is in here?
My stone bunny and my albarozo.
So these are all the special briars that I didn't want to cram in with the rest of the O.F.s
because believe it or not, my entire O.F. show string fit in one tote.
I make like a model horse lasagna in that tote.
So and then my stable mates actually all fit into these two little cardboard boxes.
So they were just like crammed in there.
So that makes my life really easy for them.
I'm going to pour all the ribbons and things into this bin.
So this is all like the ribbons and there's like tags and stuff.
So I'm gonna have to go through all of this and sort out who won what.
And then everything goes back into this little box that I have.
But I have more here.
So it's a lot that needs to be organized.
Oh, it's like it's the heaviest one.
And so this, essentially, I just layer them.
I don't treat them as nicely or as kindly as some of the other models that I pack.
Okay, so I just had to film a few things in regards to this model situation.
So now I'm gonna have to place all of the models back on the shelves.
So I'm gonna do that.
We're gonna like time lapse it.
And then I will go through the haul of stuff that I got.
So I'm actually gonna move that back up here for the haul,
which I might make into a separate video.
So maybe you're watching this whole thing waiting for the haul
and I'm gonna make you wait another week.
That is a strong possibility.
So this is the aftermath of the unboxing and everything that I've been doing today.
So I'm going to just sign off for a hot sec
and do a little bit of a time lapse as I put all of these horses away
and figure all of this out.
So that was essentially my entire day just unpacking everything,
which is crazy.
It's nearly 9 p.m.
I'm exhausted.
I still have one more bag of stuff.
To go through and then everything is good.
I also organized my stupid box closet.
It's still not great.
There's like not like a great way to have that going.
I just need to look through the documentation of everything and sort all through that,
but that's like an easy project.
The main bulk of the unpacking is all done.
All the horses are back in their original homes.
So yeah, that was a lot.
Hopefully you enjoyed watching me unpack.
I was bright spirits at the beginning, but now I am just plain exhausted.
This is editing Darren from the future.
