Surfers help pull person from water at Jersey shore: Witnesses

Witnesses say a group of surfers helped pull a person from the water Thursday afternoon at an unguarded beach in North Wildwood before emergency responders arrived.

Officials had not responded to calls or emails seeking information about the incident as of Thursday evening, and authorities had not released details about the rescue or the condition of the person involved.

Photos from the scene showed an ambulance on the beach and police officers appearing to run toward the area during the response. Witnesses said the rescue occurred around 2 p.m. near 2nd and Ocean avenues.
