Voting began in Russia’s parliamentary election, as first ballots were cast early on Friday in Russia's Far East and will end on Sunday. According to Associated Press Russia has polls in 11 timezones.
Authorities spread the election out over the weekend in a bid to boost turnout among the 111 million eligible voters and widely promoted electronic balloting. Voters cast two separate ballots, filling half of the Duma’s 450 seats by selecting political parties listed on the ballot. The rest are contested in single-seat constituencies, with voters choosing individual candidates. United Russia, the main Kremlin party, is expected to keep its grip on the State Duma alongside a few other parties.
