AI GeneratedThe speaker discusses the personal and psychological benefits of adopting a minimalist or capsule wardrobe. By focusing on a few favorite, versatile pieces, they have reduced decision fatigue, prioritized physical comfort over social appearances, and streamlined their daily routines to focus on more meaningful activities.
I haven't talked about the benefits of a minimalist wardrobe in quite a while.
And it's funny because adopting a capsule or minimalist wardrobe
was one of the most appealing things to me about minimalism,
and to this day I still believe is one of the best benefits of becoming a minimalist.
So today in this video, I'm going to go over some of what I believe are the best benefits
of a minimalist or capsule wardrobe, and why I will probably dress mostly the same forever.
And please note that the words mostly and forever are very loose,
and who knows how I'll feel 10 years from now.
But for the foreseeable future, this probably isn't going to change.
But first, if you're new to my channel, thank you for stopping by.
Here we talk about minimalism, frugal living, tech, and things of that nature.
So if that sounds good to you, and you end up liking the video,

The first thing is, I realized my favorite outfits were always the same few pieces.
It took me taking on an entire new identity and calling myself a minimalist
to realize that I really just prefer wearing the same few things.
For years of my adult life, I owned way more clothes than I actually liked or even wore,
and this sort of led to a bit of frustration when it came to deciding on outfits to wear.
And I would ultimately land on just the same pants or shirts that were my favorites.
I learned that naturally, the more clothes that I owned,
a smaller and smaller percentage of those were actually things I loved wearing.
I would eventually identify things that became my favorites
because they were either the most comfortable or versatile.
And since clothes are things we're wearing all day every day,
this is something I just wanted to be more strict with when it came to only owning my favorites.
A few notable favorites of mine are just my pullover hoodie, these jeans, and my black t-shirts.
The next thing is repeating outfits were simpler.
This is pretty much a given, so I'll only elaborate on it briefly.
Adopting this capsule wardrobe really made my life and routines
simpler because I always just had a set default for outfits.
And I'm never spending more time than I should
deciding on what to wear just for the sake of switching it up.
I think a good way to look at this is that
the best clothes just sort of disappeared into the background of my life
and were just so reliable that I was never really thinking about it.
I'm sure I saved myself so much unneeded headache just spent on picking out clothes
for an occasion or a regular day by just sticking to repeating outfits.
The next thing is I care more about comfort now.
It's really silly that I put comfort anywhere else but priority number one when it came to clothing.
Admittedly, comfort used to be something I would consider after appearances
and I would be able to deal with something being a little less than comfortable
if I just really liked how it looked.
Part of this probably came from getting a little bit older
while another part probably came from caring a little bit more
about the materials these clothes were actually made out of.
But it doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand that
being comfortable in the clothes that I'm wearing has a direct effect
on how good I feel about everything else throughout the day.
There are way too many things already to be stressed about
and stressed out about on a daily basis.
So for me being in complete control of how comfortable my clothes are
is not something I'll take for granted
and it really makes things that are otherwise really tedious or annoying
just a little bit easier to deal with.
Caring more about comfort rather than other things sort of leads into my next point
which is I'm less interested in impressing strangers.
I recently had a couple days in a row where I had to go somewhere
and dress sort of nicer than usual
and as someone who already owns a rather limited amount of clothes
it meant wearing the same collared shirt a couple days in a row
was very much on the table.
I was a little worried about people noticing
and even being slightly judged for it
but then I thought about how honestly stupid it sounds
that at this event where I am most definitely a background NPC
people would notice me wearing the same shirt twice in a row
and I'm talking serious background NPC with no program dialogue or pathing.
I'm overall much less concerned with what people think especially strangers
and I at the very least recommend reflecting a little bit on how
if you dress is more about impressing others rather than yourself.
The next thing is my outfits are tied to routines I enjoy.
Now I don't actually have a strict morning or nighttime routine
at least not as strict as I used to
but there's definitely some correlation in what I'm wearing
and what thing I'm actually engaged in doing.
I'd be lying if I said there was no link between what I'm wearing and how productive I feel
but when it comes to my favorite clothes being tied to things that I enjoy
it'll pretty much explain why I'm wearing my green hoodie so much
when I'm recording videos or gaming.
Those are two of my favorite things
and I've subconsciously tied my favorite piece of clothing to my favorite things.
So when I am wearing this I feel like I'm about to do something I really enjoy
and when I'm wearing my robe in the morning it just enhances that first coffee a little bit more.
The next thing is the more I simplified my clothes the less I thought about clothes at all.
This point in itself might be the reason why I haven't even made
a dedicated clothes video in like two years.
I'm simply not thinking about it as much.
Solid colored shirts and jeans are timeless and I just haven't gotten tired of wearing them.
Unless I found a spontaneous huge interest in fashion
I really want the only time that I'm thinking about clothes to be when I'm putting them on.
And simplifying my wardrobe has pretty much solidified that being the case.
Like most things there's always going to be new versions
and temptations to upgrade or replace things like the clothes that I have
but so far sticking with this simple wardrobe I have
has streamlined my thought process behind what I wear
and how I prioritize simplicity over constant change.
These are a few ways adopting a capsule wardrobe or minimalist wardrobe has benefited me.
I'm really curious to hear about any capsule wardrobe items you guys might have
and let me know down in the comments some of the benefits you've experienced
by adopting a minimalist or capsule wardrobe.
Anyways as always I appreciate the time you spend here and I appreciate you watching.
