Strait of Otranto, 1940: Ambush and Destruction of an Italian Convoy

In December 1940, in the Strait of Otranto, British forces ambushed an Italian convoy on a resupply mission. Under the cover of darkness, British warships suddenly opened fire, sinking several cargo ships and inflicting significant losses on the Italian convoy.
