Lutterworth - Town Heritage Trail

In this video we visit Lutterworth an attractive Market Town located in the southern most tip of Leicestershire . it was an important coaching town situated between Chester and London and this is reflected in its former coaching Inns. The town has 2 famous sons who have left their mark on the world, in the 14th century The town Rector John Wycliffe inspired the translation of the bible into English and over 500 years later Sir Frank Whittle revolutionised aviation with his Jet Engine. With a wide range of independent shops and places to eat and drink, Lutterworth is a friendly and lively place to visit, we picked up a copy of the town trail which is provided by Harborough District Council , and set out from the Town memorial Gardens. in the Market place we admired the Town hall which was designed by George Hansom who is probably better known as the creator of the Horse Drawn Hansom Cabs, The Old Police Station built in 1843 was the oldest working station in England before it was closed in 2013. The Parish Church of St Mary dating from the 12th and 14th century is a lovely little church, the original steeple blew down on Christmas Day in 1701, inside there are some wonderful wall paintings and a millennium tapestry/ We also see The White Horses which welcome you as you enter the town which represent Lutterworth's rich coaching history, As we complete the tour we admire a full size replica of a Gloster E28 which on 14th May 1941 made the maiden flight for Sir Frank Whittles Jet Engine/
