A minimalist shares a collection of long-term possessions, explaining the thought process behind why these items are worth keeping. The focus is on durability, timelessness, and the philosophy of \"if it isn't broken, don't fix it,\" highlighting how high-quality or simple items can provide lasting value over many years.
I'll start by saying a lot of,
if not most of the items I've owned,
I've owned for years at this point.
Things like my desk, water bottle, certain clothes,
and other things I've mentioned before in videos.
But today I wanted to show another list
of things I've owned for years
that in some cases,
I may have never even spoke about before in a video.
I need to just sort of share
why I think these things are worth it
and my thought process behind it.
An important disclaimer,
these things might not make sense for everybody, obviously.
And admittedly,
some of these things might not last forever,
but I have been trying to stretch the lifespan
for as long as possible.
So here are a few more things I've owned for years
as a minimalist.
But first, if you're new to my channel,
thank you for stopping by.
Here we talk about minimalism, frugal living,
tech and things of that nature.
So if that sounds good to you
and you end up liking the video,

Let's get started.
High-end seat cushion.
I know in my desk setup video,
I was talking about how sitting for hours
on my bony rear end makes it hurt.
That combined with a horrible case of sciatica a while ago
convinced me to try using a seat cushion.
I tested out a really cheap $20 one
and it was just really bad.
Then I considered how much
I would actually be using it for sitting.
So I ended up deciding to get a higher end one.
I think this was on sale for like $60 at the time.
And if you can't tell by the small holes in it,
it's clearly getting used very often.
Like literally all day at work
and every single time I'm driving.
It's funny because it's one of those things
that you know exist,
but you probably don't see yourself ever buying one.
But it just makes sitting for long periods of time
much more comfortable and tolerable.
And medically, it's probably just a little bit better
for you.
And then financially,
it made sense because of the hours it actually gets used.
I know eventually I'll probably have to like
reupholster this
and the material will eventually deteriorate from washing.
But I don't know when that will be.
And I plan on getting a few more years of use out of it
until then.
Tear lamp.
Something that's quietly been in the background
of my videos since day one is this lamp.
This might actually end up being the oldest thing
in the video because I've had it since 2016.
So 10 years now.
And to be honest,
I have no clue where I even got this.
It was either in the place that I was moving into
at the time,
or it was given to me by somebody.
But either way,
I've always liked its looks
and I've had no problems with it.
It's not even high quality.
It feels like it's made from some cheap fake wood,
but it's a lamp
and I don't know if it needs to be that durable.
Over the years,
I've kept things like plants on here
or when it was next to my bed,
it served as a nice nightstand.
And since it seems like my taste
hasn't really changed over the years,
the wood matches my desk
and I just don't see myself getting rid of it anytime soon.
As long as I replace the light bulb when I need to,
I don't see any scenario
why this can't be a buy it for life item.
I've had some people leave comments on my videos
asking where I've got this.
And like I said,
I don't really remember,
but I found some pretty similar ones on Amazon
reasonably priced.
So that would be your best bet
if you're actually interested in this.
Packing cube.
And this thing obviously only gets brought up
whenever I'm doing some sort of packing or travel video.
But this packing cube has been such a convenience
to own during those scenarios
where I'm going on a trip
or just away from home for a couple of days.
This was given to me about eight years ago from a friend
and I don't even know how long he had it before that.
So I would say it's probably pushing almost 10 years.
The brand is Peak Design
that makes a lot of travel and camera related gear
that's pretty pricey.
So I could definitely feel the quality in this as well.
But when I need to pack a bunch of clothes
or even other things into a backpack,
I just roll them up or fold them into this cube
and the layers of zippers help compress it
to make it more compact for my backpack.
There's only so much I can say about a simple packing cube,
except that this one has held up so nicely over the years,
has been super convenient.
It's obviously high quality
and will hopefully give me another several years
of good use.
Plain black hat.
I think this hat is in the running
for the piece of clothing
that I've owned the longest out of all my clothes.
And I've had it for at least seven years at this point.
And it might sound a little silly
to make a segment of this video about a plain black hat,
but I don't think it is and I'll explain.
This hat will always outlive any trend or fashion fad
because it doesn't have any logos
and it's not trying to make a statement.
It's timeless and hats like this
have pretty much looked the same
since this style of hat has come into existence.
To be specific, it's a 47 brand hat
that makes like all sports teams hats
and it's pretty high quality.
And speaking of sports teams,
growing up I was a diehard New York Jets
and Green Bay Packers fan,
but I will never buy anything
with a sports team logo on it ever again.
Especially in a time where wearing New York Yankees hats
seems to be more of a fashion statement
than even being a fan of the team, for example.
But getting back on subject,
just like owning plain hoodies or t-shirts,
it's really just impossible for me
to ever get tired of this hat.
And I think it'll mostly look good
in any scenario I need to wear it.
Buzzer.
I'm pretty sure I got this around nine years ago
and it gets used at least two or three times a week.
Although I'm pretty sure it's intended
to be used for haircuts and shaving your head,
I pretty much use it exclusively to trim my beard or neck.
And being Italian just means I'm extra hairy
and trimming maintenance has to be done more often.
I have nothing to compare it to
because I've never owned one before this.
And even though it's made of plastic,
it just feels high quality
and it's not really something I expected
to actually last so long.
If you're someone who has to shave your face
or feels confident enough to buzz your own hair,
I think investing in a high quality pair of buzzers
can be advantageous and actually save you money over time.
House slippers.
Just when you thought this video
couldn't get any more generic,
I'm gonna talk about house slippers for a second
because I actually think
there's a pretty important lesson behind these.
I've had these exact house slippers for at least seven years.
And if you go back to some of my very first videos,
you could even see them there.
I never cared or even thought about wearing house slippers
until my girlfriend introduced me to them.
And I saw them wearing them in anime and K-dramas.
So I was slightly influenced by those as well.
And this is just some random inexpensive pair.
But the important lesson I took away
from owning these for so long
is that not everything has to be cool,
expensive, or brand new.
And sometimes the quiet things that I've owned
and use every single day are doing the best job
when I'm just not even thinking about them at all.
So that in itself really inspired me to reinforce the idea
that if it isn't broken,
don't fix it with everything that I own.
Excuse that philosophical ending,
but I think you understand where I'm coming from.
Anyways, these were just a few more things
that I've owned for years
and what they mean for me in my daily routines.
Let me know if there's anything super niche
that you guys have owned for years,
or maybe quietly sat in the background of your own life.
Anyways, as always, I appreciate the time you spent here
and I appreciate you watching.
