Labour is arguing the rights of foreign criminals outweigh the public interest in releasing detailed crime-by-nationality figures, court documents obtained by GB News have revealed.
The Ministry of Justice is appealing an Information Commissioner decision over a Freedom of Information request by Centre for Migration Control director Robert Bates for conviction figures from 2018 to 2024, broken down by nationality and detailed offence type.
The request covers offences including violence, sexual offences, drugs, weapons, theft and robbery, with Mr Bates proposing that figures below five be suppressed to reduce the risk of individuals being identified.
