Caregiving Gets REAL: It Took HOURS to Cut My Mom’s Hair (Dementia Reality)

Divas and Dementia

Caregiving gets REAL… and nobody warns you about moments like this.

During the holidays, I brought my mom home from memory care to give her a simple haircut. Sounds easy, right? It wasn’t.

What should’ve taken 30 minutes took hours.

She couldn’t stay still.
We tried fidgets, snacks, drinks, distractions — everything.
She had taken her meds before leaving the facility.
Nothing worked.

This is the part of dementia caregiving people don’t see.
Not the cute moments.
Not the highlight reels.

Just real life, real exhaustion, and real patience being tested.

If you’re a dementia caregiver, you already know — sometimes it’s not about what you do wrong. It’s just the disease doing what it does.

This video is for:
• Dementia caregivers
• Adult children caring for aging parents
• Anyone who thinks caregiving is “simple”
• Anyone who needs to feel less alone

You’re not failing.
You’re showing up.

And that matters more than people realize.
