Over the course of three seasons of Operation Vivaldi, the Ukrainian Defense Forces thwarted Russian forces' plans to break through to the rear of the Sloviansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration and recaptured 176 square kilometers of territory. The Ukrainian army isn't stopping there and is preparing for the fourth phase of the operation. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this following a visit to the command post of the Third Army Corps and a meeting with military personnel participating in the operation.
According to the head of state, the operation is of great importance both for the defense of Donbas and for the defense of Ukraine as a whole.
Over three seasons of active operations, Ukrainian defenders managed to thwart Russian troops' plans to break through to the rear of the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration and stabilize the situation in that area. The occupiers lost 5,000 soldiers killed and wounded. Another 250 Russian soldiers were captured. During the visit, the president discussed future plans with the military. "Today we discussed plans for the fourth season of active operations," Zelensky said. The head of state met with the commanders of units directly involved in the operation. During the talks, the current needs of the troops were discussed, including artillery supplies and military personnel pay. During the meeting, special attention was paid to the use of ground-based robotic systems. According to Zelensky, the use of such systems was one of the factors that enabled the Ukrainian military to achieve results during Operation Vivaldi. The President announced his intention to expand the use of ground robotic systems where possible, so that dangerous work at the front could be performed by robots instead of soldiers. During the visit, Zelensky also presented state awards to military personnel and thanked those who participated in the operation for their service and defense of Ukraine. Operation Vivaldi was one of the first examples of a full-scale drone offensive in modern warfare.
