This will be the last Fish Fry Sunday from talking to Father Fish. He needs
some downtime, do some fishing, do some things that he's been wanting to do. So
he's gonna be taking a break for a little bit and we will be hosting a
live stream on my Psycho Plant Lady website. So make sure to tune in to that.
We'll be doing that next weekend. So you guys will still have something to
watch, but it's gonna be called the Random Mischief Livestream and we're
gonna be doing some tank maintenance. As you can see, I've been letting them
build up just for this to show how you can remove hair algae and how easy it is
really to take care of a father fish tank. Endlers are the closest version of wild guppies
that I could actually get anywhere near because the other wild guppies are a
little bit out of my price range. So I'm working on making hybrids with the
endlers. That's a lot of fun. They actually breed a lot more often and have a
higher success rate for their offspring than what these fancy breeds do. I mean
I've already probably got another hundred fry in there that I'm gonna have
to transfer to another tank. And it can be if you have your plants down too deep, you only keep
them in the sand level. You don't go all the way to the substrate, the dirt, because
if you have air dirt, there's components in the dirt that will, they're not good
for the plants. Like you keep the plants in the sand and then the roots find the
nutrients they need so you don't have to put it in the dirt because if you put it
all the way in the dirt, it will burn the plants up. Oh yeah, it definitely will.
Just the first one inch, then you know for sure that it's nowhere near the
soil. That's why we say cap with two inches of sand and then you put the plants in one
inch. I hope so. It was a lot of fun. It was. I hope so. We had a lot of fun there and
afterwards it's 84 right? 84 to 86? Mm-hmm. And you need to keep it there for four days? Yes.
An 86 would would definitely kick it out. Definitely. I know 84 will too, but you
want to you want to try to get it warm enough where it'll kill them out. Oh I saw how they
made the soil pretty much the start of the video. They said so we got a while
Brenda. I remember that now. There was a video when I first rescued, well my first
fish was a betta and I brought it. I did not realize that he that father fish was
alive and when I got off work Sunday he just told me to bring the betta over and
we'll fix it up. So I did. When I got off work I went straight to him and I walked
in on a live stream. It was a Sunday night live. I did not know that he was
live. I'd forgotten all about the live. So I walked in on a live and I'm showing him
that I got the betta and he was like okay now we're gonna do a video. So we
put a betta bowl together for my little betta and yeah I got called betta girl
after that. Till I learned the plants and then I became the plant lady. Oh it
looks like father fish is watching. I knew he was there somewhere. He can't
stay away. Light. Yes reduce the light. Adding more plants will help too. Yes
more plants and less light. And who knows you might want a green water tank. I have
one tank that I work hard to keep it green water because it's the water so
good for the fry. I mean it helps that really build them up. It's also good to
feed Daphnia cultures. So sometimes green water can be good. You see my
mollies. They make it big screen. Oh yeah I see them. They're like their faces are
turning like a little orange. There's something interesting I've noticed with
mollies because my husband he's got four black mollies and they've actually
started changing colors. They're no longer black. He's got some that have
orange as they're maturing and then some of them that's silver. So they may
be juveniles that are still maturing into their true color. Oh well that makes
sense. Yeah because I was very surprised whenever I walked in there one morning
and I hadn't noticed it because I was you know taking care of my tanks. I look
over his fish and one solid silver. I'm like oh did you get a new fish? Did you
fish without me? That's not fair and he's like no that is the same fish. Doing it
myself since 2020. I started the father fish method I think two years ago now. I
can't remember. I was about to give up and then I had a tank explosion and I
have multiple tank syndrome so it's so easy. But when I was a kid my dad kept
fish and he always took care of the tanks. It was always the chemical method.
I was allergic to the chemicals. So I've had fish tanks since I was about five or
six but it was my dad's fish tank. I never really did any care on them
quarantine. That was good. That was funny. Nobody makes father fish do anything.
Right? Yeah a lot of times when you do a massive water change it can give the fish
problems. It can definitely cause problems. Yeah because you're taking the
important nutrients out of the water. Yes and it's like father fish said water
has memory. It's a living substance. So the fish are very in tune with that and
when you do a massive water change well you're kind of throwing them out of
balance. So a good start. So my question is my male guppies that I had have they
started twitching because I'm starting another tank because I'm obsessed with
fish now. I know the feeling. It's a multiple tank. I have another tank out
back with yummy stuff floating in it for the next 30 days to get all that happy
too. Yep it's a big bad rabbit hole. But because I took out all of these like the
stump and some of the rocks and I totally destroyed I muddied up the tank.
So we were doing another water change therefore causing my fish to flop
everywhere and then he was just sitting in the weeds and I'm like everything
looks healthy. I mean they look healthy now. I don't I don't see any problems
with them now. Well I was stumped a little bit but um yeah now that everything has
settled down they look good. I was devastated yesterday I went to bed like
in tears. I know it was awful but it looks good but stress can do that right?
Oh yes. That's the only reason. Yeah never more than 10% water at a time.
Well I was doing this tank filling this one up from this water going this is a
good start emergency tank just in case because I have pregnant fish. I'm like oh no we
need a tank. But if I don't mess with it it should be good right? Just do my
regular thing give it my TLC that I like doing to it and they should be fine as
long as I don't mess with it right? Absolutely. Well if father fish is out
there thank him and thank you because I've been watching you guys for a couple
weeks now and you probably are the ones that are helping me keep this tank going
so thank you. You're welcome we're happy to help and whenever we're not on live
if you ever want to reach out on the father fish discord feel free to. I'm
gonna post the link in the chat there's a lot of people on there you can
actually create your own channel and discord and you can see by posting
photos on there where your tank began all the way for years back. So 10 years
from now you can look back and actually see where your tank started.
Fish is best, he takes the stress out of the hobby for you.
