I Stepped Into Ancient China… This Place Looks Unreal!

Recorded in September 2026.
Xiangyang Tangcheng, also known as China Tang City or Xiangyang Film and Television City, is a large-scale cultural and film-production complex in Xiangyang, Hubei Province. It recreates the grandeur of the Tang Dynasty and combines historic-style architecture, tourism, entertainment, and film production.
Opened in 2015, Tangcheng was designed around the architectural style and urban layout of Chang’an, the capital of the Tang Dynasty. The complex features impressive structures such as Mingde Gate, Zhuque Corridor, Triumph Tower, traditional markets, temples, palaces, and aristocratic residences. Its waterways and bridges were designed to create a landscape inspired by the ancient concept of “eight waterways surrounding Chang’an.”
Tangcheng first gained widespread attention as one of the main filming locations for Chen Kaige’s film Legend of the Demon Cat. It has since been used as a filming location for numerous other Chinese movies and television series.
Walking through Tangcheng, visitors can explore grand city gates, palace complexes, traditional streets, temples, and beautiful waterfront scenery. The combination of enormous Tang-style architecture and carefully designed landscapes creates the feeling of stepping into a fictionalized version of Tang-era China.
After sunset, the atmosphere changes dramatically. Illuminated palaces, towers, bridges, and waterways create a spectacular nighttime landscape, while performances and immersive evening experiences bring the imagined world of the Tang Dynasty to life.
