Travelled almost 750 miles for a destination wedding all the way out in Michigan! It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity with an amazing venue, bumping playlist, and one of the most fun couples we've gotten the chance to party with. I also learned to pronounce Saugatuck and took the new Macbook out for its first wedding (and explained the only reason I'm using one). Let me know what side you're on!

A DJ documents his trip to Michigan for a destination wedding at the Ivy House. He details his travel logistics, a rigorous gear redundancy strategy involving a switch to MacBook for stability, and the technical production of the event. The video highlights a high-energy performance featuring EDM and trap, concluding with reflections on the importance of professional networking.
Yo, yo, what's up?
We starting the gig log from the airport.
That's right, you saw the thumbnail.
Destination wedding today,
we're heading out to Grand Rapids today
and then we got a little travel over to the coast.
It's the Ivy House, Michigan, and it's gonna be,
I'm excited, Scott and Vanessa, we coming,
we gonna party, we gonna have a good time.
And my boy Low Stacks is doing most of the production
for me, so pretty excited, let's get it.
All right, as a born and raised Ohio native,
I'm in the land of Michigan.
Think I've only been here ever like twice in my life,
honestly, but we're in Grand Rapids
and just kind of figured out the logistics a little bit.
I've been, you know, more worried about the music
and the logistics of the geared stuff,
but we're gonna travel 38 minutes to Holland,
which is where the hotel is for the wedding.
And then the venue is 15 minutes from there at Ivy House,
which is in Sag, I'm gonna mispronounce this,
Sagatah, Sagatah, Sagatah, Sagatah, Sagatah.
Maybe, all right, well, we're gonna go find baggage claim
and get an Uber to the hotel,
and then I'm gonna go through everything
that I bring for destination weddings,
what all I pack and everything
to make sure I'm fully prepared.
So in typical fashion, you know,
didn't do the full logistics in advance,
but get a rental car because an Uber to the hotel alone
was $110, did that twice, we're at 220,
and then I still gotta get to the venue and back.
So 200 bucks, we can get a rental car.
All right, Nissan Altima, my normal rental,
I rent with National normally, but they're booked out,
so we're going with Avis today, yeah.
All right, so we in the hotel room, it's been a few hours.
I had some dinner, some Chipotle,
and we got everything set up
so I can show you guys a little bit around,
but also, I didn't know this,
but this is the hotel they're using for the wedding.
It's one of those like stay-away suites,
so I got like a fridge, microwave, stove top, dishwasher,
like, I don't need this, but it's pretty cool.
Anyways, we got an island,
and you know, an island, we gotta set up the DJ station,
but anyways, let me go through a little bit of what I bring
when I do destination weddings.
And it's pretty much just layers and layers
and layers of backup.
What I brought, normal DJ bag.
This is my normal DJ bag.
Everything in here is my normal stuff.
I got my extra chargers.
I got my Anker battery brick.
I got extra USB cables.
I got the 360 cam, MacBook charger.
I got two tablets.
I wanted to bring an extra tablet this time.
I got in-ears.
I have my X5 system here for wireless in-ears charging up.
That's all my standard stuff.
I checked a suitcase and brought some extra stuff,
and that is right here.
I brought a Rev1, one, so I can sit here
and get a little practice in before tomorrow,
and the Rev1 replicates the Rev7 pretty nice,
but two, I have a backup DJ controller.
Also brought my little X stand, laptop stand,
just to have one, nice to have.
Couple different tripods, extra cables,
and that's pretty much it,
and I am bringing both of my DJ laptops now,
the Windows one and the MacBook.
I DJ on the MacBook.
The Windows is kind of my ceremony computer now,
other than the fact that you have to bring
all the normal stuff when you travel,
like clothes and your toiletries and stuff like that.
Oh, this is the big one, internet, internet.
So this is a T-Mobile home internet system.
I highly recommend you guys look into these.
We got one of these for corporate,
and I bring it everywhere now,
and I hook it up to just a little Eero here,
because I like the Eero's wireless system better.
So it connects to the cell towers
and gives you internet just like a modem,
and then I run it into that router.
For corporate, I run it into the built-in routers
that we have in the corporate racks,
but that home internet thing, you guys should look into it.
It costs me about $550 a year.
Unlimited internet, unlimited data,
all that, no throttling on a hotspot
like you have on your phones.
I add it to my T-Mobile plan, $550 for the year.
It's broken into monthly payments, of course,
but you plug it in, it's USB-C power,
and you get internet, and I like it a lot better
than the mobile little hotspot ones they have,
because it's more designed to be a home internet system.
It has ethernet outputs on it,
so you can plug it into your stuff.
I'm gonna pack it up, bring it tomorrow,
so I have internet.
Just, I always have multiple sources
of internet when I travel,
so that way I have that as an option.
I have the hotel's wifi as an option.
On the bow-flying side of the company,
we bring that to all of our conferences
for our internet inside of the booth
to run our gear and our processing POS and stuff.
So, yeah, if you guys are doing a lot of events,
I highly recommend looking into one.
And it really depends on the logistics of the gear.
So, in the case of this, I flew in,
and I was not bringing any gear, period.
All the gear is being provided.
I got Logan, you'll see him tomorrow,
DJ Low Stacks, if you don't follow him, hit him up.
He runs Lux Entertainment out of Kalamazoo.
They're only 30 minutes from here,
and he's gonna be doing all of the production for me.
So, he's gonna be bringing the BunBoof, Rev7,
Astera tubes, some hybrid 140SR movers.
Then Scott is actually in the DJ realm.
He DJs, he makes mixes on SoundCloud,
very close to two friends, like big booty mashups.
And that's kind of the vibe he's bringing me out here
to play for his wedding, which is super exciting.
I'm super excited for that.
But, with that said, he's got a lot of gear as well.
So, we're doing a little bit of a hybrid.
So, Scott has all the sound, you'll see it tomorrow.
It's a full passive system,
so you guys might not even know what that means,
but basically the amps are separate from the speakers,
and there's cables that run from the amps to the speakers.
But we got two 18-inch subs, two line arrays, I believe.
It's gonna be a pretty nasty system to be rocking,
but we're gonna route the BunBoof into that.
And then, also, Logan's got me hooked up on an E-verse
with a wireless handheld.
We're just gonna do something simple for the ceremony.
So, all that's taken care of.
Sometimes, I have to have gear shipped.
Sometimes, I have to have somebody drive the gear.
Sometimes, I gotta drive to the destination way.
It really depends on that, but that's the scenario.
So, what I brought was a bunch of backup.
And, welcome to the fleet.
I caved, guys.
MacBook 14-inch, you guys might not even believe me,
but here you go, MacBook 14-inch, MacBook Pro.
Still got the Windows computer, still got it right here.
I made the Switch, Marcellus made the Switch,
and really, it just came down to,
it's not even about the computer, it's about Serato.
Serato is not being supported on Windows,
like it is on Mac.
They're pushing out more and more updates,
and the bugs that exist in the Windows computers,
they're not fixing them.
Serato glitches on my Windows computer,
even though the CPU memory, everything's fine.
Like, this computer's great.
It's spec'd out, it works beautiful.
It's just, it's just how it is.
I'm getting used to it, pretty easy.
I mean, I'm just using it for DJ purposes.
I'm not, like, actually using it for work purposes.
So, and honestly, it's smooth.
It's a MacBook.
Does it have its quirks and features?
Yes.
Do I hate the Finder?
Do I hate copying, pasting songs?
Yes, I ******* hate it.
I've also switched over to Lexicon
in the process of doing this for music organization.
More to come, I'm a newbie on this,
but I use Lexicon to switch from Windows to here.
I'm starting to use it for all of my backend syncing
and backing up of music,
compared to using iTunes like the way I used before.
How funny is that?
I used iTunes Match on my Windows computer
to keep my music, like, organized,
and I switched over to a MacBook,
and now I use another software.
Funny.
This will be the main end voyage.
It'll be the first, second event
that this MacBook has been on,
the first wedding for sure.
Pretty excited to get to use it tomorrow.
With that said,
the reason why I still have my Windows computer
is I still have a lot of software,
and I'm not fully switched over yet,
so I still have DJ Studio on this computer.
I don't have it switched over to here,
and it's just nice to have both, honestly,
especially when you're talking,
I'm in a destination situation.
I don't have an extra laptop just laying around,
so I have two laptops.
I have two tablets.
I got an extra DJ controller
just covering all basics when it comes to having backup.
I'm gonna finish up.
I'm basically, I'm using DJ Studio right now
to make cocktail lists,
make a couple different little mixes and stuff
that I wanted to add in,
and then I'm gonna hit the hay,
and we're gonna be setting up tomorrow at 10 a.m.,
and we're gonna go get lunch,
come back, get changed, go to the event.
Morning.
Elevator update.
Caffeine.
Running maybe about five minutes behind.
Not a big deal.
Logan's gonna beat me there.
His ETA was 10.13.
I think I'll be there at like 10.15, 10.20.
Now, all that backup gear I told you about,
I'm not bringing it just yet,
because I kinda wanna come back and practice a little bit
once I get a feel for the room
and maybe some of the groomsmen, bridesmaids.
I did go downstairs last night
and had some drinks with the groom,
and I did some of the wedding party.
Seems like a fun group.
But anyways, we're gonna head over to the Ivy House
and have a summit to offer.
All right, let's get the Michigan weather check.
Smells like not too cold.
Looks like overcast skies.
I didn't really check the weather.
The ceremony is indoors.
Cocktail is outdoors.
And we here.
The Ivy House.
Check it, check it.
There's Logan's trailer,
and there's Scott's trailer.
And they got a Generac system, too.
That's a pretty nice Michigan, pretty nice.
It's a nice spot, nice spot.
We got the greenhouse.
Looks like this might be the cocktail space.
I don't know.
We'll figure it out.
It's a nice spot.
See what we got going on here.
There's the boy.
There's the low stacks.
That's kinda cool.
What's up, dude?
What's up?
I was going straight on you.
Do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do.
Ah!
I was wondering if you were gonna make it.
I was in there.
Oh, were you?
Yeah, as you were walking out the door,
I walked in the door.
And then Scott started talking to me, so.
We're getting set up.
We got the bun booth.
This is what we're rocking.
These are PRV 18s in a JBL cabinet.
Mackie tops, all passive.
I'll show you the rack in a second.
Intimidator 140 SRs.
Logan's messing around with the wolf mix.
We got Logan's white bun command center.
Rev seven tonight.
Got a little RCF mixer down there.
Some Sennheiser wireless mics.
Got Serato.
What else we got here, Logan?
Wolf mix?
Wolf mix.
Bun booth.
Sennheiser EWD X.
The dual mic.
We're gonna have eight Astera tubes.
Oh yeah, tubes, yeah.
We're gonna throw, just because Rick's in town,
I decided to bring eight both lighting up lights
just for him.
So we're gonna throw those out just for some accent.
Yeah, he's got like, I think two.
That's it.
He's got like two plug-in lights, so.
So we'll throw those around just for some accent
on the booth and the totems.
We gotta clean this up a little bit,
make these cables look nice.
Put his Astera tubes out,
and then we're gonna go out to the ceremony site,
and I'm gonna show Rick how echoey that thing is.
I have heard it's atrocious.
So this room, though, on the other hand,
it's actually pretty decent on acoustics.
They put like some sound paneling,
they put some dampening on the ceiling.
Insulation up there, not bad.
Do think this is pretty cool.
They put the floor plan up on the wall
so everybody knows what it is.
That's like a really good touch,
especially if you have a built-in projector.
Setup is fully done.
Check it, check it.
Very nice, very nice.
Ready to rip it, rock it, roll it.
Very easy setup when it comes to ceremony.
We're doing it pretty simple.
It's a greenhouse, and honestly, it's an echo chamber.
So what we're gonna do is we're just gonna run
a handheld on a stick, and they got a couple readings.
So we're doing it very basic today for that.
Cocktail will be over there,
so we'll move the Ebers over there,
but let me show you, they're setting up all the florals
and everything right now.
It's looking nice.
So we just got a Ebers 8 over here.
All I'm doing is playing the exit song.
They have a violinist that's gonna be
playing everything else.
We're gonna run one handheld mic,
shoot the speaker over here, handheld mic on a stick.
Very simple.
We exploring, how do you pronounce the name, Sagata?
Sagata, Sagata, Sagata, Sagata.
We're exploring, we're going here.
Is this part of Lake Michigan?
Ah, yeah, it's like a bay.
Ah, cool, cool.
Y'all, lunch was dope.
We're back at the hotel now, gonna get changed up
in the good old suit, ready for the wedding,
and head back and go.
Straightforward, baby.
Logan, if I didn't tell you,
was actually going to go to another wedding.
He's got his own wedding with DJ.
One of his boys, Ryan, is gonna be there to help me
with basically being my assistant for the day,
and then Logan will swing back later with the trailer
to pick up all the gear, so it's gonna be lit.
All changed, got the jacket over there.
Let's go to the wedding.
It's game time, baby, Super Bowl, here we go.
Game time.
Ryan, Heather, ceremony, all set.
All right, so me and Ryan here.
We only had one mic working before we started,
and then we're trying to get the second mic working.
It's Sennheiser.
Don't bring me in there.
Oh, well, you're here.
It's Sennheiser, and Logan quickly showed me
how to use this, and it just constantly was muted.
I couldn't figure out how to unmute it.
None of the buttons did anything,
and then Ryan was like, is there a switch on it?
And I'm like, yeah, there's a switch right there.
There was no problem at all.
We probably gave Logan a heart attack, though,
at his wedding.
There's Heather.
What?
Three minutes.
That was insane.
We are all broke down.
Get everything out of here.
We're just waiting on Logan to bring the trailer.
Let me tell you guys.
That right there was a once-in-a-lifetime
wedding opportunity to DJ.
You guys know it.
You don't get weddings like that,
where you can play heavy, trap, EDM, bass like that,
and I'm so honored, and we ******* ripped it.
Loved it.
It was amazing.
So much fun.
Shout out, Scott.
Shout out, Vanessa.
Logan, Logan, he made it.
We got everything loaded up.
12.19.
Logan's gear, my gear.
It all fits in one trailer.
Pretty impressive.
Hey, Logan.
Oh, hey, Rick.
How was your wedding?
My wedding was, it was good.
It was good.
Very traditional, very traditional.
Pretty chill.
Lots of your wedding classics, that type of stuff,
but quite a bit of country.
They had a ton, they had a,
oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, they had a hell of a good time,
for sure.
I'm flying home.
Flight tomorrow at like two o'clock,
but man, I appreciate getting to run into you again.
I mean, it's just so nice.
I like, this is what the community's about.
Make friends all across America,
so that way when you start doing travel weddings,
you can just link up with each other and have a good time.
I'm bummed I couldn't be here with you,
but I'm still here with you.
Yeah.
Ryan was riding the Tired Wave,
because he works like the night shift or whatever,
so he was like over there like,
he was like, I'm in it, this is sick,
but look, I'm out of it.
But yeah, it was sick.
I'm going to go to the after party.
It's just down the street.
That's going to like 2 a.m. at a bar.
We'll see what that's like.
All right, bro, safe travels.
Absolutely.
Peace out, guys.
Like, comment, subscribe.
We'll see you in the next one, bye.
It is the McDonald's.
