Summer Heat 2.0.
The FBI found over 1,400 missing children during Operation Summer Heat 2.0.
FBI Director Kash Patel on social media last week announcing the figures, which he says are up
35 percent in 2025. Joining us now to expand on this is former Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes.
Reyes emerged as a global leader in the fight against human trafficking, testifying in Congress,
leading investigations and prosecutions of some of the most significant cases in the U.S.,
pioneering programs and protocols in Utah to empower survivors and to support victims,
all while overseeing domestic and international training programs to dismantle trafficking
networks. It is such a pleasure to have you on, Sean. First, break this down for us. When
the FBI director says 1,400 missing children found and located, just like that, what exactly does
that mean? What kinds of circumstances could these children have been in?
Thank you, Chris. Good evening. It's amazing news for all of us who are in the fight
against modern-day slavery and human trafficking. And I first want to commend and congratulate
Director Kash Patel and his team and all of their partners at the federal, state, local, tribal
level, because this is no small thing. It's quite significant and it's wonderful news,
not only for families of these children who may be returned finally, perhaps years after they've
been missing, exploited, abducted. It's great news for law enforcement. It's a great morale booster
for those of us in the fight and for anyone who's watching in America, regardless of political party.
This is not a partisan issue. This is a human issue. And so all the way around, again,
congratulations and wonderful job to Director Kash Patel. You asked a question, though,
about where these kids may have come from. They can come from any background.
Yep. And some of these missing children were victims of child trafficking,
like we've been touching on. So how widespread is this problem with children specifically,
and is it growing or declining? Well, hopefully it's declining because of
the attention that this administration has put towards it. It's been a priority
for the Trump administration in President Trump's first term. In the interim, those four years,
the last administration deprioritized the program. They scrubbed even from the DOJ
website references to anti-trafficking, which was very discouraging to many, not just in America,
but around the world. And now again, you see this administration, the Trump administration,
through the leadership of Kash Patel and others, hyper-prioritize the interdiction of drugs,
of human trafficking. And it's just a tremendous effort. It takes so many resources to coordinate
an operation of this magnitude. I know because I've participated in them. And for many years,
we struggled to get the support that we needed from the federal government. So to have the
federal government's resources and to have them leading out is, again, is a clarion call to
supporters and to fighters around the world that America, again, is taking leadership
in the fight against pure evil.
