Father Fish is an old time fish keeper. For 70 years he has kept fish. These are his simple, easy, guaranteed methods for keeping healthy, happy tropical fish in your aquarium.
Hi there, this is Father Fish. I had planned to do a video with you today on leaf litter,
so I began to do some research and I discovered something shocking, something
deeply disturbing and something that we need to do something about. There is a channel,
I'm going to post the link in the bottom, but I'm going to show it to you right now
because it is a channel that was active for nearly three years containing some of the most
advanced techniques and approaches to leaf substrate and natural tanks that has ever
been put on YouTube and it has been virtually, completely ignored.
Hey everybody, it's me, Jared. I'm right here at the Blackwater. Today I'm going to talk about
the substrate that I use. I get a lot of questions about it because it does look very
unconventional, very different from a lot of other aquariums that you might see. His channel
is definitely very messy and has a lot of junk and all that good stuff. About a hundred, how many?
52 subscribers. After three years, 52 subscribers,
I began to watch his videos and I am astounded. He was saying three years ago, four years ago,
what I've been saying for the last two years. He stopped publishing about six months before I
started. Boy, he's needed to be around for the last couple of years. I want you to go to his
channel and I want you to blow it up, but mostly I want you to watch his videos.
They are remarkable. This is his 70-gallon leaf litter aquarium. Let me blow this up for you.
Look at this.
Look at this. Beautiful crypts. If you look, you'll see it's full of litter,
full of leaf litter. He talks about deep substrate. He talks about biodiversity.
He talks about bringing life into your aquarium. He's saying all of the things that I've been
saying. He said it three years ago and he was completely ignored for three years.
Completely ignored. His videos are technically very, very superior to mine.
Let's take a look at his channel here a minute. Garrett Everett Blackwater, 52 subscribers.
Check this out. He joined February 11, 2018, three and a half years ago. He has
three, six, nine, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 25 videos. Here's his very first one.
Blackwater, Whitewater, and Clearwater.
That's his intro. Garrett is remarkable. Even though it's late, he deserves our support.
Go to the link, click on him, and watch his videos. Blow them up. They are as good or better
than anything I've ever done. I regret that he disappeared before I came along
because the two of us, I think, would make a phenomenal team. Let's see. I wanted to pick up
some more of his videos. Look at this. Leaf litter, 70 gallons. 50-gallon white cloud mountain minnow.
30-gallon Asian. 20-gallon Asian. Aquarium cabinet. Do's and don'ts. Leaf litter.
20-gallon black skirt biotope. 70-gallon subtropical Asian stream. 70-gallon Vietnamese
cardinal minnows. Subtropic Asian stream. Biotopes. How to make them. Amazing.
Absolutely amazing. Here's a 20-gallon coolie loach biotope, and it goes on and on and on.
30-gallon. Here's this 30-gallon subtropical Asian stream biotope. Check this out.
About a five-inch deep sand bed. He has less sand on his dirt than I do,
but he has a lot of litter all along the bottom.
This is utterly remarkable. This is something we need to pay attention to,
and something, frankly, we need to do something about. Barrett Everett Blackwater.
Get on his channel. Look at his videos. Study what he's doing. He has an early video.
Let's see if I can find it here. It is, let's see, let me get to his videos. It explains
how he creates leaf litter DIY aquascaping tool kit, a description of microfauna and macrofauna,
homegrown aquatic botanicals, substrate setup of leaf litter, and here it is mixing it up.
Here's a video explaining how to create a substrate composition,
something I did as my first video. Frankly, he's doing it better.
Today I'm going to talk about, I've tried to drain most of that out just for filling. You
don't want slop. You want something you can kind of hold and push around. What I did to remineralize
mine is I left it outside and forgot about it. So it rained, the sun was out, there's bugs in there,
somewhere in here, and it goes on and on. All right, let's see what I've done.
This is dry banana peels. I'm not sure if this is going to work, but I don't see why not because
we're basically making aquatic compost here. So I dried banana peels, ground them up. Banana
peels are high in potassium and magnesium. So we'll mix that in with the soil, cap it off with
sand. Because they're already dry, there's not a lot of sugar going on in there, so we shouldn't
have any problems with algae or anything. Do you believe this? Honestly, do you believe this?
All right, enough. Enough. Get over there. Check this out. Subscribe and hit the bell.
We need to get this guy back. We need to get him back. We need him desperately right now.
I hope he's still around. I hope he's able to come back. But he has certainly left a legacy.
Check it out. Check it out. Bye for now. Bye for now.
