AI GeneratedFormer Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is undergoing a deposition by the House Oversight Committee regarding Jeffrey Epstein. While Republicans seek accountability for Epstein's victims, Democrats dismiss the proceedings as political theater. The session faced a brief delay after a leaked photo violated committee rules, and Bill Clinton is expected to testify tomorrow.
Chappaqua today, former Secretary
of State Hillary Clinton is sitting for a high-profile
deposition as part of the House Oversight
Committee's investigation into Jeffrey
Epstein. The proceedings, however,
were put on hold for a short time today
after a photo of the former First Lady from inside the room was linked,
and Mrs. Clinton
demanded that the proceedings be made public and open to reporters.
Iowa News reporter Marcus Solis is live
in Chappaqua this afternoon where that
deposition is still underway. Marcus.
And that request, Liz, was denied, but we're being told
the deposition likely to go on for another hour or so.
Now, both congressional Republicans and
Democrats have said the purpose
of their investigation is to hold people accountable
and demand justice for Jeffrey Epstein's victims.
And while this is a bipartisan panel,
the value of having Hillary Clinton face questioning,
well, that falls upon party lines.
Today, we are sitting through
an incredibly unserious clown show of a deposition.
Democrats blasting their Republican counterparts
on the House Oversight Committee.
The panel questioning former Secretary
of State Hillary Clinton about Jeffrey Epstein.
Secretary Clinton never met Jeffrey Epstein.
She never visited the island. She never flew on his plane.
She also had no knowledge of Jeffrey Epstein's horrific crimes.
So, zero knowledge.
Initially, Hillary and former President Bill Clinton ignored subpoenas
but ultimately agreed to speak
to the panel under threat of contempt charges.
Bill Clinton has stated he cut off ties with Epstein before
the financier was convicted on sex charges.
But Hillary Clinton met his associate Ghislaine Maxwell a number
of times and Maxwell attended Chelsea Clinton's wedding.
Democrats insist the wrong person is being questioned.
What we're seeing is political theater. What we're seeing is folks
that are looking for headlines and tweets as opposed to doing
the business of going about getting justice for the victims.
Clinton released a copy of her opening
statement during which she told lawmakers,
You have compelled me to testify fully aware that I have
no knowledge that would assist your investigation in order
to distract attention from President Trump's actions
and to cover them up despite legitimate calls for answers.
Now, at one point, the proceeding was put on hold
when a photo from inside was leaked,
a photo taken by Representative Lauren Boebert,
leaked to a conservative podcaster and then posted online.
No comment yet from Republican leadership,
Democrats saying that that violated committee rules.
Again, this is expected to go about another hour or so.
A videotape of the proceeding
and then a transcript is scheduled to be released at some point.
It is unclear when, and of course,
former President Bill Clinton will appear here tomorrow.
And we're live in Chappaqua, Marcus Solis, Channel 7 Eyewitness News.
