We came back from our collecting trip with lots of goodies: mud, sand, plants, fish, and water. During our live broadcast we set up several jars. This is a followup about those jars and some film of the fish we caught.

Hi there, it is Friday morning.
I wanted to show you some of the
fish that we caught on our collecting trip
and also do a little update on the three battery jars.
One of which looks good, the other two of which look terrible.
So let's take a look real quick.
this is um let's do the terrible first this one
has dead shrimp in it this is uh this is the mud
tank with baby tears on top it's showing a
definite uh lack of oxygen the the mud obviously
has overtaken the ability of the tank
to sustain itself we'll see how the plants do they should be
able to pull it back.
I'm keeping light on it, so we'll see how it goes.
There's some scum on the top.
It's good to move that out of the way to give CO2 and oxygen
a chance to precipitate in and out.
Looks pretty nasty. We'll check it
again on Sunday. This is one of the sand tanks.
Now I added water to this and
stirred it up kind of made a mess
of it it's uh you can see it's got some strata in it so it's
settling and i did see a couple of fish in there there's one back there
so it's not killing
everything off but it is kind of messy the fact
that i'm not using a filter means that the very
very fine particulate matter has to precipitate out
and that's going to take a while so that's
one two here's the third one this is actually
the first one we set up with sand plants and a rock
and it's looking real good it's cleared up nicely
the fish are swimming around these are blue line
killies here blue fin killies keep saying that over
and over blue fin killies and that is a
Formosa, that little tiny one, it's a male
the females right above it and that other one you just
came back and then left, it's kind of a gold color
that's the uh golden top you know, so this has got
some fish in it that are looking good
the tank's looking pretty good, this is what they all should
look like, um we're just going
to give them time, they'll settle down, we'll show it again on Sunday
Now, I wanna go over here and show you
some of the fish that we've caught
These on top, these longer fish, are golden top minnows.
There are guppies in here too,
so you'll have to kind of distinguish
That's one, just a very pretty, very pretty little fish
Here's a group of them down here
Hopefully you can see the sparkle in them.
They're kind of shy,
they're darting away from the camera
Let's see, oh there they
there's a group of them
The guppies are all looking for food.
Let's go over here, we've got more over here
I think there's also a Florida flag in here, you might see
Few guppies in this as well
These are, they're all kind of hiding in the back
They're shy little things
Down here are bluefin killies and Formosas
almost exclusively
Of course these are native fish.
The Formosa is a tiny
live bearer
It's one of the smallest live bearers in the world. The Bluefin
Killies are just a very pretty little fish. There are some varieties of
these that are quite spectacular.
They're further north in Florida. Pretty, pretty
a little fish. Let's see what's over here.
It's all more of the same. These are mostly
Formosa.
The little
eye bears.
Here's a group
of blue fins.
Pretty fish.
See, we can't get
a really good picture of the golden topminnow.
They're such a pretty fish. They're all
being very shy.
They get much larger.
These are inch, inch and a half.
I've caught them
at four inches, and they're spectacular.
The bigger they get, the more color they get.
These guys, they show silver flecks in the gold body
and some red on the tail, at least
among the males.
Let's see if I can pick up one or two in here, maybe.
Scooting for the
back. You can see them going along the back.
Well, okay. So, that's it. That's what we
got for you today. Just a little quickie to show you some
of the things we caught and how the bell
jars are doing. We'll post this and it's Friday.
We'll do an update on Sunday at our regular
3 p.m. live stream. Take care for now.
Father Fish signing off.
