Tools I Use In My Videos 👇👇👇 https://www.amazon.com/shop/hvacguy In this video I visit a customer who said another company had just been out, but refused to come back when it failed again, and told him he’d have to pay for a new repair. I found that the previous technician had made serious wiring mistakes , and had a lot of trouble replacing a condenser fan motor. #hvacguy#hvac#hvaclife#hvactechnician#airconditioning#skilledtrades#bluecollar @WeSupplyTrades @nucalgonmicrotrainings4647 @DiversiTechCorp @MilwaukeeTool

Hey guys, in today's video this customer called me
and said he had just recently had somebody else
out and from what I found it looks like they replaced
the condenser fan motor and they made
some mistakes in the wiring and I try to go over it.
I didn't do a very good job of pointing the
camera all the time of what I was working
on but I tried to explain the importance of wiring this
correctly. It was obvious the person
who did this had trouble and didn't understand why that
condenser fan motor was not working
and they kind of made it work so stay tuned i'm gonna
show it
to you here
we go it's
the one for
downstairs
let's see
yes sir
okay where's your filter at
and they were
just out here
that looks okay
all right let's
check things
outside i'll get
something
so i
don't
have
to put
my
knees
down
in
there
i don't
see
that i
might
still
have
power
it's
okay
it's
okay
thank
you
that's
a
five
so
why
would
they
do
this
yeah
sir
this
capacitor
is a little bit weak do you see
here wait a minute there it goes
that's 74.9 yeah we can
use
that
no you
don't
need
it all
we need
is this
wire
from
here
to the
capacitor
and one
thing
i
should note this wire here they have tapped
to go to this motor
as my common wire this really needs
to go over here on this relay i think it's
this spade right here but i'm not certain all right
this one's for my reversing valve
so that's common that's gonna
be a 24 volts this is common
got yellow i think it's this one right here i don't have one
of those small spade connectors
but there's got to be a reason that was taken off
of that i'm pretty sure it's this spade right here
right now i'm not going to move
it i'm going to leave it right
there let's get us a new wire for
this and hold
on a second
they got
this wired
backwards all
right now
let's get us
a wire to
go from one of these bays that's not affected up
to our common right there all right now they're
going to see i had to remove one of my shelves
because it kept breaking the mount it actually
broke this steel plate right here and i removed it
and i'm in the process of trying to figure
something else out yep
that'll work now i understand why
they moved this from over here
it's because they had their run and their common
mixed up over here so this wire or is it this
it's this wire
right here and
it's going to
pass voltage
to here
when that's
energized
and that's
why their motor was not working when they first fired it up
because it was getting power from the
same leg. Do my best to reconnect it.
It goes right here. Like I said I
do not have one of those small
connectors.
All right
let's put
power back
to it
and see what
happens.
I think my
thermostat's
going
to have a
time delay.
I think
I hear
the blower
running.
I'm not sure.
All that up
there
looks much cleaner doesn't it?
It does matter even though
your condenser fan motor can technically
wire up to either side if this side is run
and this side is common that is designated from the
factory from the very beginning so this side is common
and when it feeds over here it's going to
feed common to your condenser fan motor
so the how you wire this up here matters you put run to run
and common
to common
let's go
in and
check our
thermostat
all right
let's check
it outside
all
so now everything's running like it's supposed
to i know somebody was just out here i hope they at
least know
how to check
pressures
let me
um check my
suction real
quick into
system with
probably
a different refrigerant
in it i know it's r22 because
of that defrost relay 2003 two and a
half ton r22 i'm gonna
leave it alone i'm
not sure it's got r22
well let's do check
the high side
give us a better idea of what might
be in it something this old
i seriously doubt it still
has r22 in it
see that's
probably not
r22 you see
pressures
on something
like 422b
make a lot
more sense it
is not labeled
but i'm pretty
sure it's not r22
i always put the
rusty screws up in
the top right here and put my clean ones down
on the bottom i've had to remove too many of them
with a grinder i do hope you enjoyed
the video if you did how about like
and subscribe if it was
helpful if it if i successfully explained why
those wires are supposed to go on one side not
the other and if it was helpful how about give me a like
and subscribe and i'll catch you on the next one
