Overnight Wood Harvest Camp
Oct 11, 2026
Head to https://betterhelp.com/joerobinet to get 10% off your first month with our sponsor, BetterHelp. Therapy can be a meaningful space to reflect, grow, and create positive change in your life.
I head out to a buddies property to do an overnight wood harvest camp with Wolf.
He needs some dead trees gone so they don't fall and damage his cabin, or trailers on the property.
I set up a hot tent and woodstove, take down a large red oak tree and cook up a steak for supper.

hey folks how are you joel wolfie here i got
a different video for you today
i'm taking wolfie to my buddy's property
i did some snow removal for him
in the winter and he needs a few trees down
because he's going to build a cabin there
there's a couple trailers up there right now
because he needs some trees down he said i could
take a big tree i want for firewood for my family at home
which anybody who knows anything about
wood red oak is like choice right
so we're gonna go there i have a wood stove i have a hot tent
i have a steak to cook up i'm hoping to find some ground
that's not snow and not soupy watery in the
woods he's a bit higher elevation than i
am so i have high hopes for that but i don't know what
it's going to be there if you can even get
into the property or if i'm going to be hiking in
we'll stop right here and see chuck things out
very dead one two three four but a lot of them
are big oaks and i just have a smaller chainsaw
so i'm going to selectively pick one these ones
are the most necessary to get rid of I believe
because if it falls there or there or blocking
the road like I said it's no good.
This one's not too big it's it's decently decently big like it's
over a foot wide. I think I could take that one down
and drop it right there safely but if it hits
that tree it could get hung up which I wouldn't want.
There's also this one over here. I think
before I set my stuff up I'm gonna take
the tree that I'm gonna take down so
that I can then get my trailer
in there without fear of it falling on there and
or my tent depending because I think I'm
gonna I think I know what I'm gonna take
it's kind of near here
but I gotta make sure it falls the correct way because if
I landed on one of his trailers that's
not gonna be a good day using all of the
little bit of skill I have
with the chainsaw once it's down I can get my
trailer in closer to load the wood
and set up all my gear and camp stuff and
everything and then spend the rest of the day bucking it up
and loading it it's a
little
husky okay
I've got
a pretty
decent
notch
but this
bottom
section
needs to come out and I couldn't get it
with this chainsaw like maybe I could
but I didn't so I'm gonna get
it with the axe a little bit
more this way and straight
towards that other tree
dense dense
wood I might
be able
to start
on the back
notch now
perfect I
I was actually trying to get it a little bit more to the right,
but that's perfect.
I'm happy with that.
I can handle that.
Nice.
Good wood.
A clear
escape plan
and everything.
Didn't need it, but it was there.
One thing I've noticed about myself over the years,
and I think a lot of people deal with
this honestly, is how easy it is to fall
into that all or nothing mindset.
Like if something isn't going to be absolutely perfect,
or I don't feel 100% ready, I'll
just put it off completely.
I've done that with a lot of things even stuff just going
on in my own head telling myself
I'll deal with it later, but I never get around to actually doing it
Like honestly, it's as easy as this trip itself.
Everything is very soupy outside. It's been raining like crazy
We have old dirty rotten snow everywhere.
We had a huge snowfall this winter
There's still the bush is a lake.
It's soaked. It's like the Everglades, right?
There's nowhere to even be comfortable or sit down
but like I need to be out there, you know what I mean?
not only is it my job, but it does me good mentally.
I know my family is wanting me to
get out there. I'm driving them crazy cooped up here.
And being out here, you actually get a whole
lot of time to think. There's no distractions, no noise.
And it actually forces you to sit with
your thoughts a bit more. Now, sometimes that's a good thing.
It makes you realize you've been
avoiding things for much longer than you should.
And I've realized it doesn't have to be this big
overwhelming thing where you have
to have everything ready before you even start. Even
And just taking one small step, talking things through,
getting a perspective can actually
help more than you think.
Now that's something I like about BetterHelp,
the sponsor for today's video.
It makes starting therapy feel a lot more doable.
You can take a quick quiz and get matched
with a licensed therapist and then talk however
you're comfortable, phone, video, or text.
And if it's not the right fit for you,
you can switch at any time with no extra cost.
It's not about something being wrong with you,
sometimes it just helps to have someone
there to talk to and see things a little bit differently.
If you've been thinking about it,
you can go to BetterHelp.com slash Joe Robinette or

Thanks BetterHelp for sponsoring.
Back to the video.
This is another Pemali tent.
This one is called the Barracuda 2.
Barracuda 2.
I've never set it up.
I would never be able to roll it back into place like this.
We'll set it up together, figure it out together,
and encamp in it, me and Wolfie at least.
That's a lot of poles,
or maybe just two
really long poles.
Okay, there's four long poles two really long to just normal long
and one little baby guy
Doing a number on that thing, eh bud,
man. It's gorgeous out here. No snow
and the sun is shining like crazy
So what I've been waiting for for a long time now feels good
Feels really good to be out and not in the snow
or the uncomfortable wetness
Admittedly, this would be a lot easier put up with some help
but Wolfie doesn't have opposable thumbs
we shall get it
and it will be worth it
a little help from the wind
a little hindrance from the
wind too i think i got it set
up properly we're just going
to pound some steaks in
then we'll go on inside
and check it out using nan's axe haven't used this thing in a while
love using it double down on the ground here
that's why i got to use the axe to pound it
and not just push it
in door comes off completely i think
very spacious very spacious comes up all
the way i think i can
do the same with this one
and get a nice cross
breeze power 11.
In order to hang your stuff up in here,
it's pretty fancy.
Cross breeze all four corners.
Great
camping.
The lightweight canoe stuff.
Bust in my butt, it'll come soon.
This is luxury.
What, a cot?
Yes, a cot.
I have a cot.
I like it a lot.
The fact that I have a freaking cot.
The fact that I have a freaking cot.
I like the freaking lot.
Just a cheap
old woods one
from Payton
Tire.
Give me a, have a cot.
What do you say?
All done your bow or what?
I bet you I could put some marrow up for you.
Right.
I can eat right here.
Grab my chair, my cot, Wolfie can come in right here.
And I still have to put the wood stove in.
Not too shabby with that breeze coming through,
man, I'll tell you that much.
Oh,
this
is
gorgeous.
This
wood
stove
to burn
it in.
Burn this off, it's new.
We're gonna get out of here
and let it do its thing.
How this stove likes to work,
each one acts a little differently
in my experience.
No pine needles or anything, or pine twigs.
And this is all just real hardwood oak in there.
Do have some birch to start it.
So it's almost like a hardwood fire back in the day.
Look at the little birch, you know?
Well, get by with a little help from my birch.
Just like
the wind.
Flame in there, hopefully she keeps going.
I
think
it
will,
looks
pretty
good.
Good wood, look at that, that's choice.
You don't get better than that.
Maple who, you know?
Red oak, man.
If you're an OG, watch for the channel.
Remember, back in Windsor, I always went for red oak,
always for firewood.
These are sunflower seeds, not anything else.
Anyway,
choice
wood,
I'm super
happy
with this.
These here, should try, because there was a gap here.
If I could get it good, it pinched up on me.
Now it's stuck,
so we'll see
if I can
get it out.
Need
more
tools,
Something.
Gotta cut smaller now.
I'm asking
a lot out
of this
little saw.
A dead red oak is no joke,
but it's doing all right.
That's
heavy,
that's
heavy.
Get
my own
tools,
just
hanging
on.
It's not conventional, I understand that.
Neither am I, though.
Just
hammering
it into the
ground,
you know.
What is the move for this?
I don't know.
I honestly don't know.
I'll get it.
It's just,
I know this isn't proper.
What the heck?
I don't want
to put
my saw
blade into
the dirt
too much.
I'm in
dirt,
it's
mud
now.
I'm finally done.
Cut all that tree up.
At least that part of it.
I have to load it onto the trailer
and put it next to the tent for a picture, you know.
Thumbnail
wise,
most
important.
I feel accomplished.
Still have to lift all of them into the trailer though,
which will be work.
But that's good work.
Good work.
Now, I'm sure some of you are going to tell me
that I did a lot of things wrong, and I know I did.
I'm sure I did.
But you know what?
I got it down.
I got it bucked up.
No injury to me.
The only thing that I did mess up was the chain.
That happens, even with use, and I've experienced that before.
I know I put it into the ground a couple times,
but I couldn't just keep cutting it most of the way through
and then stopping and trying to kick it off or break it off.
So next time, a chain sharpener for sure.
But I'm happy.
I'm going to chalk that one up as a win.
See Mr. Wolf. Hey, good boy. He's hanging out
in the shade or what you were in the shade
Good boy
Anyways put all that there just to put it back
in the trailer after, no big deal though, happy to do it
It's a wolf. He's been a good boy all day
I'm gonna take him for another walk before we cook up supper
I'm gonna build a fire in the fire pit next
to the camera there cook up my steak over the coals
I'd rather do that decent tent.
I like to say it's like
a tarp breeze coming through
It's just like shade and not like a hot tent like like when you're
when you're in your tent and the sun's beating down on
It's like a sauna right like
with the breeze coming through it's pretty good
But it is a hot tent as well
obviously that dead tree needed to
come down a couple more of them
You need to come down right around here,
but maybe I'll come back with with Jake my buddy who owns this place
Maybe he'll get an arborist to come in and take them down,
and I was happy to take take one for my family
I'll supplement that,
like I said, with some maple.
All right, Wolfie and I just got back from a big hike.
I'm gonna feed him and I'm gonna eat too.
Good boy, sit.
Okay,
good
dog.
I gotta hook him up for being such a good boy.
This is smoked brisket.
It's super good.
I'm eating something myself.
Good dog.
Mm, I'm gonna cook up a steak too.
Ready
for
it.
And bark spark.
Completely
different type
of camping for me.
I kinda like it.
Jonesin' for a real wilderness trip catching brook trout
and that is right around the corner.
Ice is almost off the lakes.
Well, I'd like to think that.
It's probably still another, till like May,
second week of May, but it's getting there.
Another month or so and I'll be out in the wilderness
doing what I love the most,
and that is canoe trippin',
catchin' trout.
Hey, smell a steak?
Smell a steak there, moochie boy?
Big mooch?
Dog food wasn't enough?
I'll get some, but you gotta wait.
A cooler?
What is that all about?
Back, back, back, back, back.
living the life out here man this is luxury get
that Montreal steak spice on that boo reminiscent
of again reminiscent of Windsor reminiscent
of a lot this is a memorable trip and i've not done
this here before bringing back memories you know
mud water we we went on a walk there was tons and
tons and tons of puddles that he drank out of lots
of smells for him too i'll take them again after
supper after i'm done
supper and uh we'll
get them all situated
for bed mushroom
and then we'll call
it good
cooking
time
butter
in the pan
what
about me
dad what
about me
oh hello
i have
a table a
table i have napkins i have a fork and water oh i
have salt too don't know how this gets any better
you know dog here crying at me
for food they'll get somebody
and don't worry it's inevitable you
know part of the spoon
part old school heavy
cover spoon slash fork
could have cooked it
a bit less
it's
a taste
test
oh cool
around
fantastic
what a day
pretty
pleased
it's nice
to come
out here
do a bunch of work and then stay the night it's best
of both worlds for me and the fact that
there's no icing on the cake man having this guy with me even
though he doesn't like to be
petted if you want steak you'll get
petted if you want steak cooped up
for too long it was was way
too long
personally i like
the crispy bit eat
this we got a big
fire going out there
again probably
go for another walk
maybe i'll take you
for the walk this time
with me and wolfie
waits for after
every supper at home and everything lick
your plate dad i threw the uh the bone from the ribeye
in the fire obviously i'm sure you guys know giving cooked bones
to dogs is no good they
can splinter and stuff but raw is okay he had
that earlier today steak some brisket some dog food
lick the plate clean some puddle water a pleasant life
for wolfie right bud i'll clean that not
clean
enough eh?
Sunflower
seed man.
Good boy.
He's
on point.
Good boy.
Getting
chilly.
Probably
close up that tent when I get back.
Stoke up the fire in the wood stove. I got the outside fire
going still too but pardon me.
But I probably won't uh keep it going for too much longer.
We're losing light. It'll probably be almost dark
by the time I get back from my walk.
Hour walk.
He's really
interested
in the woods
on that side.
Nose is
going crazy.
Move along
sir.
See, his bed's there, and he can reach it,
but he often doesn't like to lay in it.
Put his bed next to him.
He got up, walked around, and laid back, not on the bed.
That's that same fire I first started in there earlier today.
Still doing good.
Make up some tea,
tons of bird
noises
going
on out there.
He's pretty interested in it.
I've got both the doors closed now in here.
It's starting to warm up quite a bit, actually.
Very,
very
wet in
here.
and considering Wolfie doesn't like to lay on his bed
for some reason if I brought him in here and
made him sleep in here he'd be laying in the mud
and I don't want that for him so I'm going to let
him sleep out there his bed's out there he can lay
on it if he wants to he can lay on the ground if
he wants to he's tied up right about that he's
not trying to come over right here to get in here
anyways the only time he did
that was when I had food it's very much like at home he keeps to
himself for the most part
but when I have food he's around I want to go to bed soon I'm tired
My feet hurt. I haven't been on my feet this long.
I'm going to sleep good, I'm sure of it.
Side person.
Check the moon out.
Stars too.
Good night, bud.
It's
good.
It's
good
on the
back.
Heavenly.
Listen to this symphony
of birds.
It's past six in the morning.
It got pretty cold. I had to bundle up.
I love to hear this.
Wolf for a morning walk.
Yeah, this tent got full of condensation last night.
It was just soaking wet on the sides.
If you brush up against it, you get soaked.
But I didn't have any vents open or anything.
Slept pretty good.
I'm gonna get up soon. Mr. Wolfie came
in the tent last night
He was all tangled up out there crying for me
So I just put his bed in here and made him lay on it.
That was it. Hey good boy
We'll go
for a walk
this morning.
It must have
got pretty cold
last night.
There's frost.
My sleeping bag
Windshields all covered
in frost. He's got some food.
Even this stuff. It's all frosty.
Got some breakfast
While I wait for my fire to die down. Time to get these back in here
Lift things
up and put
them down.
Put
some
down.
Smoked
brisket
to
throw
in
there.
Broken yolk, Joe, no.
Steak and eggs in the morning.
What you know about that?
That'll do.
Looks like a fantastic breakfast.
I cooked the yolk more than I normally would
because I don't have any toast to dip them in,
but that's okay.
This looks
good too.
Spice on it.
Smoked brisket,
lovely.
Wolfie got his breakfast before we went on our hike,
but I got some
more brisket
that I'll give to him.
Tons of birds when we went for a hike.
Tons and tons of birds.
No big animals that I could see,
but he could smell them like crazy like last night.
It was a nice area.
Thankful to Jake for letting me come and use this spot.
Thanks for letting me take a tree.
Come help you do whatever you need to do here, man.
For sure.
I already told you.
After I'm done eating,
it'll be time to break down camp.
Got my urologist appointment tomorrow.
Have to get this video edited
and over to the brand for approval for the ad.
Lots to do.
My mommy's coming soon to visit in one week.
Not in one week from now, but in one week, there's these three things.
There's the anniversary of my accident,
birthday, anniversary of Isaac's passing,
all in one week, in a week time frame, middle of May.
She's going to come up for that.
That'll be nice.
I haven't seen her on that anniversary yet.
This will be the third year.
And the first year I was in a coma.
The second year I was on my book writing, or no, doing the documentary.
And so this year we'll spend it together.
Not only do you get
some brisket, you
get to lick my plate.
Well, that's it for this video.
Thank you for watching.
I think Mr. Wolf had a good time
I know I did it was very productive at a camp
and got some wood for the family
So thanks for watching. Thanks again to Jake and I'll see you guys soon
Hopefully on the water
