Welcome back into Good Day, D.C.
Beloved Go-Go stars get their flowers later
this month, and you are invited.
D.C.'s Go-Go Museum and Cafe will hold a Hall
of Fame induction celebration October 28th.
Founder and CEO Ronald Moulton is here now with all the details.
Ronald, always good to see you.
It's good to see you, too.
Okay, so big things are happening this month,
and a lot of recognition, well-deserved recognition, is coming.
Tell us about the Go-Go Hall of Fame induction.
Yes. So since 2008, when I picked up the Go-Go Awards from Kathy Hughes
with a former partner of mine in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2019,
2026, we inducted all these people in the Go-Go Hall of Fame,
but had no way to put them.
But now, since the mayor, the council and all
of our donors have supported the Go-Go Museum, especially our patrons,
we have a home, as you know, since last year, 2025.
and we're going to induct all these people
and reveal it on the 28th for the big press conference
and then that evening with a celebration at our annual fundraiser.
That's amazing.
And I think it also just speaks to how important Go-Go is to D.C.,
also becoming the official music of D.C. about six years ago.
How did you all manage to sustain it for over 10 years online?
Well, you know that it's important to honor your history
and your past or it disappears.
and there's so many people
that came before us whose shoulders we stand on and we cannot let
that go without making sure
when we're gone that the generations to come know their history and
their culture so it's very important absolutely now along
with the induction there's a special
installation yes uh tell me about that what
that's going to look like and and what you all
certainly hope to leave when it comes to legacy yeah
so the uh installation is made of these uh
brass drum cymbals that will go on the wall
and then we will reveal it of course and it has the
names of all these great people who have been inducted over years
and i think it's very important
to acknowledge them because it's not just the people
on the front line uh you have people like
daryl brooks you have uh women like carol kirkendall you have
our mayor uh council member
White Mcduffie who did policy uh to get the buildings
to to do the things to not just support
the museum but the artists and the culture uh the commission of arts
and humanities all these great
people help make this happen especially our patrons
and we have to acknowledge this right
and tell our story and we can't wait to do this it's
a long time coming long time coming and what
i'm hearing here is it certainly it takes
a village to make all of this happen you mentioned
some of the instrumental people behind the scenes
and on the scenes yes talk about for the love of
Go Go fundraising campaign. That's also
a really big initiative. Yeah, so this shirt
that I'm giving you right here
is the fundraising t-shirt.
Nice. And I love a little bling too, Ron.
Yes, a little bling. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So we chose this color because it looks like money, right?
Yeah, thank you.
We want to sell 2,500
of these shirts. You can go on our website
and get them. But we also have a
big fundraiser that evening to
honor all of the people who are being inducted.
And our goal is to raise
$250,000 before the year
in to help with our operations at the museum uh we've
been doing well uh but we can do much better
uh with your help and i just thank everybody for supporting us
because this is so important
as a lot of culture has been erased
because museums don't have the funding like they used
to have and we're operating we're
a people's museum built from the ground up and we're in
historic Anacostia so this museum means more than just
a place to come to the museum we are building
and an institution that helps the whole corridor in a historic district
that we're going to make a big tourism spot in Washington, D.C.
That is, Ron, that's amazing.
All the work that you're doing to help raise some
of that money, where can people go?
Oh, yeah, www.thegogomuseumcafe.com, and everything's on our website.
And once again, we appreciate everybody who supports not just us,
but the music and culture of Go-Go.
Absolutely, and all that you've done, too,
as a co-founder of the Don't Mute D.C. movement as well.
Before we go, you're a fifth-generation Washingtonian.
Washingtonian generation
and a big part of this movement just what does it mean to you in 2026
to see how far go-go has come for the culture
in DC I would say this God is good yeah and God's
timing things happen and now is our time to show the world
so many great things about how you saw
sexy lady was just sampled you saw Boosie just come here say he wants
to do go-go yeah so Snoop
Dogg just did go-go right
and when you come to the museum we have exhibits showing that go-go has
been sampled thousands and thousands of times by hip-hop
and other genres of music right we have
something great here we're one of the only cities
that have their own music yeah and we're going to
protect it we're going to grow it
and we're going to showcase it to the world and we with people
like you and Fox Five we can't go wrong thank you
so much we're happy to support make sure you get
out and support them as well ron thank you
so much for your time thank you thank you so much
all right julie ladies over to you all
