All right, new this morning,
Katie Zachariah held her first press briefing this morning.
She is the new White House press secretary
who replaced Caroline Levitt.
You'll remember Caroline Levitt left her post back in August.
This morning, Zachariah said President Trump
has added several new campaign stops this
week as he continues to campaign for Republicans ahead of the midterms.
But it was this news she revealed about
U.S. Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle that really
surprised the room.
Listen.
We have asked Ambassador Guilfoyle to resign.
She has been a wonderful asset to
the team and we wish her well. Okay. The Wall Street Journal reporting
allegations that Guilfoyle sought improper gifts
and private travel in exchange for access to the
Trump administration. Lawyers for Guilfoyle
are denying the allegations calling some reporting
misleading. Guilfoyle has been in her role
as ambassador to Greece since last September.
She was once engaged to President Trump's son,
Donald Trump Jr., and was once married to Governor Gavin Newsom
at the time he was the mayor of San Francisco.
All right, Long Beach starts post-storm emergency repair work.
Gosh, there's so much damage along
the boardwalk right there and also the bulkhead.
Yeah, Mario's been spending some time there, so let's check
in with him now this morning to see how things are going, Mario.
Different from yesterday, it looks like, right?
Good morning.
Yes, Roxy and Sandra, good morning.
We're on the boardwalk here at the end of 68th,
and we're approaching high tide, as Maria has been talking about.
It's coming up around 1030.
It could reach over 7 feet.
And the big concern is more damage
that could come here along the boardwalk.
You can see those waves.
They're still pretty intense,
and they could cause some coastal flooding here
in low-lying areas like where we are.
I want to bring in a local resident here.
What was your name?
Mike Alakis.
Mike, tell me what you think about all this coastal erosion in here
and this area that you're seeing.
I mean, it's so sad for me to watch what's gone on with these homes
and longtime residents are really affected by this.
So my heart goes out to them, first of all.
And, you know, this is an inevitable thing to happen, obviously,
with a breakwater that doesn't fully protect you out here.
It would have been nice if that breakwater had
been extended out another couple hundred yards.
I think that would have protected a lot of the homes here.
But, you know, Mother Nature is what Mother Nature is.
Yeah, we've been watching these sand berms
also being reinforced on both sides of us.
And near the parking lot here,
we've been watching those trucks come in, dropping off the sand.
But it gets washed away after just a couple days.
It does. I don't think you're going to have
an easy time battling waves of this force.
Fortunately, I think this is the last of the hurricane surge.
So hopefully we can get a reprieve there
and maybe reinforce it a little more aggressively in the next few days.
Yeah, we have that coastal flood advisory until 2 p.m. today.
What are your thoughts moving
into as we get closer to the winter storm season?
I mean, they're going to need a lot more sand here
and maybe a little rock reinforcement would be nice.
