Why don't you tell us a little bit about that Albuquerque balloon ride
and just your interaction with him? So we got to Albuquerque over a week ago.
For a golf charity tournament.
And we did the tournament. We went to a.
Uh, comedy show with Steven Casada, another co-star.
And the whole time, you know, talk to R. J.
See how he's doing. We, you know, we always have a good time with him.
I want to say this time, though, he was a little different.
You know, I can tell he was different. So, to try to cheer him up.
I invited him to come to the balloon the next day.
And that's how the balloon happened. We ran him on the balloon.
We try to cheer him up, joke around like we always do.
And another, I mean,
I'm sure you guys can tell by the video that he seemed really tired.
Inside.
And he was, he was. Did you talk to him about what was bothering him? Yes.
Could you share some of it? Nah, that it's no, that one's too personal.
But let me just tell you, he was.
Being pulled.
In all kinds of direction.
He was very conflicted with that.
I can't say what it is that is not my place to do. I'm not going to say that, but.
Yeah, he was just struggling with that. Were you aware of that?
That issue for him at the moment. There's a moment in the video that.
Um, when you're in the balloon.
And you said to him, and I don't know. I, when watching it,
it seemed like maybe he was just afraid of heights or afraid of the balloon.
But you turned to him and you said, "Go ahead, put your your head right here
on my shoulder." Were you aware at that moment that he was going through
this this issue, as you describe it, being pulled in in different ways?
Yes, I was already aware of it when we brought.
That's the reason why I brought him on the balloon because he doesn't like heights.
And you know.
Just invited him to have a good time and forget about things.
You know, put his mind somewhere else for a little bit, at least.
So you know the whole time during the this is just a little portion of the video.
The video is a lot longer, you know, and.
You know, I was trying to cheer her up, my friend Alisa.
Was trying to cheer her up the whole time because we knew he was.
In his head, with things, thinking about.
Life and stress of life, the pressure and all that stuff. So the whole balloon ride.
We try to cheer him up, take more pictures, joke with him, you know, and all
those kinds of things that you do, when you want to make someone feel better.
You know, yeah. So we ended the balloon ride, and we went to lunch.
I dropped him off at the hotel.
And then the next day, I picked him up to take him to the airport.
You know the way to the airport. We talked the whole time.
And then Albuquerque airport is really small,
so we parked outside and we talked for another 45 minutes.
Man.
And then, you know.
We talked about everything. The situation.
And I offer him to stay at my house with my son,
just him and I. And I told him, just come to my house, bro.
And just reset yourself, you know.
Think clearly without people pulling you in every way.
All this pressure that you have outside of all of this, you know.
I said, just come to my house.
You know, and stay with me,
and and he had already been on the road for over a month.
He say he say he had to go home.
And so I made him promise to call me.
I made him promise to call me.
If any to talk.
And he did.
I never got a call.
I told him. I told him, and we were.
And in the car, you know, because R J helped me through a really hard time.
Just a couple of months ago,
I went through the hardest thing of my life myself, you know, and.
I was struggling. He was there. He, amazing friend.
So he knew how I was and what my thoughts were.
So when I came back to him, that when at the airport I I told him,
you know, the worst thing I did, and this goes for everybody.
The worst thing I did was to deal with it by myself. That is the wrong thing to do.
If you're struggling it with something, does not matter what it is.
Don't don't don't do it by yourself. Reach out to a friend.
Reach out to a therapist or somebody you trust.
Because the wrong thing to do is to do it by yourself.
As men, me especially me, the way I was raised, you know,
you're a man and you deal with things on your own and you have to be tough and.
Yeah, I try that. I couldn't handle it, you know, and.
I'm not gonna lie. The worst thoughts, cross my head.
But I have my son.
I have my son. I'm a single dad. I'm never gonna leave my son. No, never.
That went out right away, but R.J. didn't have that.
You know, but yeah, but I talked to him.
I told him, please, bro, talk to talk to call me or call anyone.
He was close to Dina as well, you know, and and a few other guys, you know.
Just I'm here anytime, 24/7. It doesn't matter what time you call me,
I'll pick up, and I promise I'll pick up, and.
It just, it just sucks.
Well, look. Um, we are just so sorry. So sorry for your loss, and um.
We really appreciate you sharing what you can, um, and letting us know that.
He was going through something,
but it's you know the fact that you were there for him.
You were a good friend to him. You were really good. You were a good friend.
And and I got to say, the video you posted, we could see. Yeah.
And I don't think people realize. I know they see you guys,
the whole Breaking Bad cast, come together at like fan conventions and things.
But it's very clear that you had a very away from all of that,
away from the cameras. You guys were close and supported each other.
So we remain friends after Breaking Bad.
You know, two thousand nine. He was one of the ones, him and Dean,
and a couple other guys that we really stayed close to.
But RJ is just the sweetest person I've ever met in my life.
I've done cons with him, and trust me, this dude, anybody comes to talk to him,
he'll make he'll make that time to make eye contact with you and talk to you.
Be kind. You you were clearly there for him,
and we really really appreciate you coming on and sharing this.
Thank you, Luis. Thank you.
