Albertans line up for first day of advance voting in referendum
Oct 14, 2026
Advance voting is underway in the Alberta referendum.
People across the province are marking an X on ten different questions
ranging from constitutional issues
to immigration to Alberta's place within Canada.
We do have five days open for people to vote for advance vote
so people can vote at any of the locations within
their electoral division.
We do definitely have some indicators
that there's some increased interest in this event
So we saw a really large amount of interest in the special ballot.
Elections Alberta says 652,000 special ballots were mailed out,
adding that could mean higher voter turnout at the polls.
In Calgary, one voting station CBC News visited had
a line-up before doors opened.
Waiting in line didn't deter any of the people we talked with.
These are important matters. It's important to us today.
It's important to future generations.
Well it's part of the democratic process isn't it?
I mean that's the most fundamental right we have in the country
is to express your opinion on the government.
We're guiding our own future.
If you don't vote then how can you complain
if the result isn't what you agree with?
Advance voting runs from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday
ahead of Alberta referendum day on Monday October 19th.
