Rescue operations are actively underway in
central Nepal around the Budigandaki River,
that swept away roughly 45 homes and damaged
four bridges and three hydropower projects.
Four helicopters have been deployed to assist
emergency crews who have successfully rescued between 82
and 95 people including nine foreign
nationals now despite
these swift evacuation

residents remain missing
while displaced families face acute shortages
of shelter electricity and basic supplies
the visual connectivity is severely disrupted authorities
are racing against time to locate
the missing and provide immediate humanitarian relief
a flood victim narrated his ordeal whose
house was swept away in the floods listen in i first went uphill
and watched the third wave
which was carrying sludge the water had already reached
the suspension bridge over the budi
gandaki river when i looked
at my home i had already lost 90 percent of all hope my house
had been swept away by the river officials
from the national disaster agency reported that a dry
landslide likely blocked the river
or its tributary temporarily creating a sudden dam that eventually
Some local reports from upstream residents suggested
that an ice avalanche may have triggered the sudden surge of water.
The catastrophe compounds Nepal's ongoing struggle following
a massive glacial collapse on August 26,
which killed over 1,400 people
and heavy late September rains that claimed at least 21 lives.
