Despite a challenging season with unpredictable weather and windstorms, the speaker highlights their favorite blooms and provides practical advice for others looking to purchase tubers.
I think I have an addiction problem between the unpredictable weather,
nine foot tall plants,
and obsessing over every single variety.
I've officially lost control. This year the dahlias
did not give me the overflow I usually get on my flower patch
but I still have footage of every
single one of that deep bloom and I absolutely love it.
Before the frost takes over I want to
show you what's left i'm showing you every single one
of them with their names where i got them and
details about each one of them how i feel about them all
the info before you buy your tubers
this is Breakout and i got this one
at Triple Wren Farm i really always love this dahlia it's kind of
there with the cafeolic one but it has even more color to me
because of the gold like creamy gold
in the center and then it goes to a brighter color
on the outside it is just so fluffy and
it grows i think like eight inch probably
that's probably a flower like eight inches in diameter
and the color is still soft like creamy
and buttery yellow but it still has that punch in
the garden this is the Coralie dahlia
from White Flower Farms this dahlia is absolutely stunning
i don't know this one starts with again
that golden i think i like those dahlias with the gold
in the in the center that has that creamy buttery color it has
a five inch or five inch diameter so
it's really large it's a beautiful pastel it contrasts really good
with other flowers when
you do a bouquet the plant grows around 48 inches
and it's really really sturdy this is Crème de la
Cassis dahlia and it's the only one i got
from Lily's Garden this one is a water lily
type and it I really did like it it didn't bloom a lot
but I did love the dahlia I found it to be
more like a soft lavender than a berry color
but the plum in the center is absolutely beautiful
I did like that it kind of needed that in the flower
this is the Blumquist Sterling dahlia
from Triple Wren Farm this has to be one
of my favorite dahlias I grew this year it is just so
elegant the way that the color works on it
but also the wispiness and softness of it i think
is probably one of the top ones that i will always want
in my garden the shape color everything is
very much how it showed on the website
and the lavender color is absolutely beautiful that's the
only thing that i think is a lot more pink than the lavender
but i think it's a stunning color
regardless of which way it goes one of the things
that I loved on this dahlia is that you can see
how much it varies like it starts with a cream color
and then it gets that pink on the bottom
but even the bud itself is super pink look how pretty
the center of that is if you want a lot
of drama in your garden having this makes
a big difference in a flower patch the bud is so it's
like a little piece of sculpture Sandra Barbie dahlia
from Triple Wren Farm okay this has to be
the most fun dahlia i have ever grown now
this dahlia was supposed to be three and a half feet
tall unless i got something wrong
and look at this thing it must be eight or nine feet tall
i don't know what happened to it
but hopefully next year it will grow normally it's a cactus
dahlia but the blooms are like six and a half inches
or more it is a huge bloom absolutely
stunning this is Bloomquist Dreamer dahlia
and it is from Triple Wren Farm this dahlia did really
well this is another cactus and it looks i mean it blooms
so early in the season of course it was
in the ground i did not dig it out last year by mistake
so it bloomed a lot and i have to tell you
the color is so much prettier than it looks
on the orange color it's more like a peachy color
and it works so well if you want some kind
of flower that's larger for bouquets i think it's
just a really fun flower
to have it does grow quite tall probably five feet tall i think it's
taller than the four feet that i think it
was supposed to be but it's worth growing i'm gonna
to keep this one this is iced tea dahlia
from swan island dahlias i will say this is not my
favorite dahlia but i do like a couple
of things about it one is that it's a pom-pom dahlia but
it's like three inches or so the flower
so it's a nicer size and also super compact it grows like
three feet high so it doesn't take a bunch
of the space if you have a very tight space and
garden like me in a tiny tiny garden strawberry cream
from i think it may be from bear creek farm
but i am not sure this is a super cute dahlia i
was kind of disappointed when it first started
but i do like the color i do like that it has
those little splashes of extra color on it it
looks like it's been brushed onto it the petal color
is maybe like a pink berry color and a
cream color super pretty I do like it
and it can some of them open up so they're not super round
so it varies a lot that's the one thing I do not like
also I think the size is around three to four
feet high so that's perfect
and they do have a long vase life I found that if I cut it it does
last, which I really love because since
my small garden I cannot grow really huge flowers everywhere
that take too much space, Teesbrook Audrey Dahlia
and this is from White Flower Farm on this dahlia
I was beyond happy because it didn't look as pretty on their website
and it's stunning, this
beautiful dahlia is one that I want to always have
in my garden, it is a collarette form so it has
this beautiful just ring of petals with the white, I mean
this is the most perfect dahlia, this is
such a good one and it the size is really pretty
and it does bloom quite a bit if you get it
the flower is supposed to be very pastel in look
but it has this stunning color and layering that
yellow against the pink
and then white, it just transitions really nicely, Honka Pink Dahlia and
it's from White Flower Farm, this is the most fun dahlia I've ever grown
and it is great because it
works in pots, it grows 28 inches tall and it is compact
and orchid shape and it takes some part
shade which is excellent
if you know where I grow, where I don't have enough sun on my pot
it's been perfection, Kelsey and Joy
from Longfield Gardens, I honestly don't know what happened with
this one because it doesn't look like what I thought it
was gonna look like, so I don't know
if I got a different one or this is something else
and I got my tubers mixed up but I actually
really like this one, it is another colorette, I think I'm
in love with colorettes and it's very
summery looking so it fits
so good for pots it doesn't grow super big four or five feet tall
like this probably a couple two
to three feet tall depending where you grow it I do have it in
full sun the gold to like peachy apricot color it
is just a gorgeous gorgeous flower so i definitely
will have this flower in my garden always Blue Bayou Dahlia
and it's from White Flower Farm
this is an anemone dahlia
and it has that look of like the cushion in the center i think this
another really fun type of dahlia the color
is not my favorite i'll be honest but it does work
really well if you want to cut flower it's super strong
and it doesn't take over your garden if
you have a small garden so i will probably keep it
in my garden the photo they have on their website
doesn't make it justice i think it's much prettier than
that it may not have been the best year for
my dahlias this year with windstorms
and all of that but it is still a great year because i did
grow some new ones and found some beauties
in all of it normally i dig all the tubers every
winter or fall but this year i'm gonna keep them in the ground
and i know it's a huge risk i could
lose them all but i'm doing it anyway
if you grow dahlias tell me do you dig them or do you leave
them in the ground and honestly
if you don't grow them fair warning you buy one you might end up
with the same addiction as i have
and this is one addiction that i'm okay living with it it is just
beautiful the amount of different choices
that you have out there to go ahead and purchase
i have grown so many
and you can look on my channel for all the ones i grew this year which
are a lot more than these and previous years i'll try
to link all the videos on the description below
for you i show how to grow them all the way
from when you start indoors until you put them back
indoors for winter i'm grateful for the flower patch
that kept going regardless of adversity
