Well, today is day six of the Naresh Bhat murder trial.
The jury yesterday, for the first time,
seeing video of Mamta Khafli Bhat alive, walking.
We want to check in with Fox 5's Stephanie Ramirez.
She's on her way to the courthouse this morning.
Steph.
All right, so good to hear from you.
And yesterday, we also heard from the close family friend
who is referred to as the sister from New York.
So when she said she grew up with Mamta in Nepal,
we got to see the court, got to see her text.
exchange with Naresh Bhat, just to go into some of the notes here.
This was when she
had contacted Naresh Bhat on August 2nd,
relaying concern from Mamta's mother that she wasn't
able to get in touch with her daughter or the defendant.
This was the day police did a home welfare check.
In the text, the defendant's first
two responses are that everything is okay
and that Mamta usually works Thursday to Saturday.
We also, as you mentioned, Marissa,
that we saw Mamta for the first time in surveillance
video from the UVA Prince William Medical Center.
Mamta is the woman seen in the left chair sitting down.
Her colleague noting this evening of July 27,
2024, was the last time she saw Mamta
in person.
And we also saw body cam video
from Manassas Park Police Detective Claudia Ventura, who
challenges in the video,
challenges Bhatt's account asking why he told officers that Mamta
was last seen in blue scrubs, something she would have worn to work.
If Wednesday, July 31st was the last time he told police he saw her,
but she's supposed
to work on Thursday, why would she have been in blue scrubs?
It's also in the rest of her
body cam video shown that we see
her point out things of concern that she saw in the
home.
The detective described a lot of cleaning products
in the closet, Lysol, cleaning agent
and wipes. She also referenced seeing
their bed frame right on top of a closet frame.
Now Naresh Bhatt, his defense attorney argued that he,
Bhatt welcomed detectives, welcomed
police in in his home every time.
And they also raised concerns of a language barrier
here. Now Naresh Bhatt, as we've been reporting,
he is facing charges for the murder of Mamta
his wife also facing charges in connection with the dismembering
and discarding of her body.
Over 100 witnesses, guys, are expected to be called.
So there is a lot more.
I'll have an update later on Fox 5 today.
