Right now, a lawsuit is underway over the federal raid
of Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar's Washington, D.C. home.
Leah Bino is in the live center right now tracking this suit here.
Good morning, Leah.
Good morning.
Yes, the lawsuit is filed by Democracy Defenders Fund.
It claims the raid violates the Hatch Act, which aims
to stop federal employees from using their jobs to influence elections.
The Department of Justice says the raid
was part of an ongoing criminal investigation,
but they have yet to reveal what they found.
Fox News is reporting the investigation
is related to Omar's immigration paperwork,
which she says was filled out by her late father in the 1990s
when she was a minor.
Omar and many of her supporters are calling Monday's search an attempt
to target a political enemy ahead of the November election.
The congresswoman is running for re-election
in the 5th Congressional District,
which covers Minneapolis and parts of both Anoka and Ramsey counties.
she's facing off against Republican John Nagel.
Now a social media post from the watchdog group
that filed out the lawsuit
or filed the lawsuit asked the U.S. Office of Special Counsel's Office
to specifically look into DHS Secretary Marco Allen
and Acting Attorney General Todd
as well as any other DHS
or DOJ employees that have been involved in the raid. So we will
continue watching this one very closely as it develops.
Back to you guys. Yeah yeah we'll
definitely wait and see. Still lots
of questions about this investigation. Thank you Leo.
