On Beyond Dispatch, the top focus,
Cockrajanta Party, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranga
have been sent to five days of judicial custody.
The two, along with Ajinkya Shinde and 10 others,
were produced before an executive magistrate in Delhi earlier today
after being placed under preventive arrest.
Preventive arrest gives police the power to detain a person
without a warrant to stop a cognisable offence
or a breach of peace from happening.
It also means a person cannot be kept in police custody
for more than 24 hours without the order of a magistrate.
The CJP members were detained
on Tuesday morning after they crossed police barricades,
entered Jantar Mantar and raised slogans demanding the resignation of
CEC Gyanesh Kumar over the alleged irregularities in the SIR exercise.
Jantar Mantar on Monday was denotified as a protest site
and just on Sunday, Das and Ranka were released
after furnishing a bond of 50,000 rupees,
an undertaking not to be involved
in any breach of peace cases for one year.
This time, they are facing charges of trespassing
and violation of the bond
and are being treated as repeat offenders.
Ajinkya, who was released on a personal bond today,
He said the fresh action against Das and Ranka would not deter CJP
from continuing their protest against the chief election commissioner.
Also, CJP founder Abhijit Dipke,
he accused the government of suppressing dissent.
In a first, leader of opposition in Lok Sabha,
Rahul Gandhi also came out in CJP's support.
In a post on X, Gandhi said, waving the tricolour
at Jantar Mantar in a peaceful protest is not a crime.
Jailing youth for it is an act of cowardice.
He also once again asserted that the protests
by different civil society groups,
students and INDIA bloc are one protest under different banners,
indicating that Congress will also fight the centre's move
to denotify Jantar Mantar as a protest site.
He said that people will reclaim it.
Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party National Convener Arvind Kejriwal termed
the police action absolutely ridiculous
and now with Jantar Mantar no longer a designated protest site,
Delhi police has identified three alternative venues for protests.
This includes Ramlila ground, which is 3 km away from Jantar Mantar,
Burari ground, which is 18 km away,
and lastly, CBD ground, East Delhi, which is 12 km away.
After days of street demonstrations,
massive rallies and police detentions,
when Delhi was in a state of lockdown,
we are now looking at a bit of a change in strategy
as far as the political opposition
and other parties involved in massive demonstrations are concerned.
Let's talk about the opposition first.
The Congress-led India Alliance
is now contemplating a bit of a relaxation period
and a postponement in their street movements.
It is being said that they will now undertake
the next mega rally on November 1st.
In the meantime, their pleas along
with other petitions related to the SIR,
the police crackdown
and mass detentions will be heard in the Supreme Court as well.
The CJP, on the other hand, has a massive strategy to plan out for.
Remember, Ashutosh Ranjan
and Saurav Das have been put in a five-day custody this morning
by the special executive magistrate.
Now, all of this is happening after Ashutosh Ranjan,
Saurav Das, another CJP leader,
Ajinkya Shinde and a few others,
they crossed a gate and a barricade to get inside Jantar Mantar
in a symbolic move to protest not just against CEC Gyanesh Kumar
but also the fact that the
Ministry of Home Affairs has denotified Jantar Mantar
as a protest site. Now the next few days
and weeks will be crucial with respect to the strategy
that comes forward from all the groups
and organizations that are protesting against
the Election Commission of India and also demanding
Gyanesh Kumar's resignation.
In the midst of all this, the leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi has
once again reiterated a call for unity
and said that all the demonstrations, all the protests and
agitations that are going on are for one common cause
and that everyone is united behind wanting
an actionable measure to come out of that cause.
