He emphasizes the intensity of an upcoming rivalry game, the strategic \"cat and mouse\" nature of the matchup, and the integration of Marvin into the opposing team's game plan. Additionally, he reflects on communication challenges during loud stadium atmospheres and the importance of honest team meetings.
You guys saw last night, obviously,
that when we get back, he'll have a little procedure,
see what it looks like in there,
don't have any new news on what it could really look like
until we get in there.
So we'll just take it day by day.
And yeah, it's any time you lose a player for a game,
it's always a challenge.
But I have a lot of confidence in Walker and Cole to go in there.
And these guys have played these guys
so many times and have had success against them
and know what they're in for in terms of the battle
and next man up mentality.
It's really nice having a guy that's played a lot
and that I've played a lot with.
And I think that position I've seen just over my career,
how important that, if you want to call it swing tackle spot is,
is just, you know, unfortunately, obviously,
Tonson would be out.
It happens in this league and injuries happen.
It's an unfortunate part of it.
And just seeing how important it is to have a guy that can step up
and Walker's shown that he can do that.
I've played a lot of football with him, trust him.
He had a great day today, seems ready to go,
and he's been locked in the whole season in
case his number gets called, so I don't have any hesitations about him.
We had two really tight games against them,
obviously have a tough feeling in our stomachs
from the last time we played against these guys,
and know that every time that you line
up against this team, it's going to be a fight,
it's going to be a brawl, and so that's what's
great about football that's what's great about rivalries
is that you have a level of respect
for each other right because you know any given
Sunday anything can happen especially in rivalry
type games and understanding what you can learn
from each of these opportunities that you play
against one another in and how well you start
to get to know each other in ways in terms of what
they want to do what we want to do and that's the cat
and mouse game that's the game within the game
that you have to play?
I mean, there's always a respect factor.
Those guys have earned the respect.
They're great players.
They have a lot of them on that defense.
We respect them, and we're going to have a good plan,
and we're going to make sure we do everything to be prepared.
But also, when Sunday comes around, we've got to go make plays
and have the confidence that we're the best guys in the field.
I think we believe that, and we've got to play like it.
We showed some of Marvin's clips today
in terms of what he's been able to do
in Arizona um maybe what areas of the field they may try
to use him i mean it's probably going to
be hard to get him into a full game plan
but shoot we did it with Jacoby last year and i know Marvin
smart and he works hard
so i would imagine that he's going to be a part of their game plan and
cj and he you know him have a lot of chemistry
and history together so um yeah there's some
unknown to truly how they'll use him
but um their system they you know they kind of run what they do
and they put the guys in positions to make plays,
and I think Marvin will probably be no different that way.
That was probably one of the louder
atmospheres I've been in in a while,
especially, you know, in those critical moments to where, hey, guys,
like I can help you out with my play call, maybe shortening it up,
trim the verbiage
or call something a little bit more simplified down there
where it was in that end zone specifically that got loud.
um and some of those critical down we had
a great offensive meeting on uh on monday afterwards where
we just had a really good open honest meeting showing some
of the guys where i can help them
and where i can be better as a play caller
and where we have to execute better as well and so
when you have a group of guys that are honest
with each other that we can all be honest with
typically um things like that i'm
not as concerned about i really believe that these players know
what's at stake, what's coming into town this week,
and being able to learn from some of those mistakes.
