A technician documents three separate service calls involving heating and cooling systems. The visits range from routine gas furnace startups and leak detection to diagnosing a faulty AC contactor and addressing a damaged gas meter.
Hey guys, I'm going to take you all along
on what were three of my service calls today.
Two of them were kind of short,
so I'm going to pack all three into one video.
I hope you enjoy it. Stay tuned.
Let's see
about
this
heater.
Right here.
Talking about the key,
need the light?
Yeah, please.
Supposed to be some of that heating element,
I mean the pilot lights on?
Yeah.
Pilot light's going
to be down here.
And that fan up there will come on once it heats up
if you got the switch turned on.
That's the way it normally works
Yes, sir, how about yourself?
Well, they didn't give me the call until like five o'clock so
So I couldn't have got it no way
I replaced the gas valve
on this thing not long ago.
These things
aren't very dependable, are they?
There it is.
Yeah, okay, thanks, sir.
Hey, where now?
I changed the gas valve on this thing.
When Craig was here?
Older white man?
Yeah, Craig was here.
It's actually right next door,
and I moved because I got married, right?
And then my brother,
so my brother got an apartment near him once
and me and Mary didn't get along,
so I said, I can't help you.
I'm moving back over there.
Let me, I'm gonna go outside
and check
the gas valve real quick.
right it is turned off but it is not locked
in this situation i can turn it on but i need to
notify water gas and light and because um until
they know it's they're not gonna bill them for
gas unless they know it's turned
on so i'm gonna have
to notify them you gotta turn this slowly
all right and then come over here make sure
these bottom two are not moving if they're moving you
got a gas leak somewhere i was just
on this furnace last year i replaced that gas valve
hey i'm gonna see if i can't get
this lit i have to push this in and it
allows gas to flow through
the pilot tube and it won't stay flowing until the
thermocouple gets hot oh look at that oh there's a
gas leak
y'all see
that i need
my flare nut
wrenches i'm
not sure i
have them i
can't tell
if i got
a pilot up there
or not i think i
do release the
pressure on that
valve you really
need flare
flare nut
wrenches
for things like
this and
checking
around on the
bottom of this
i think we
can turn this
on this knob
right here
just the heat
just the heat
okay it has
this little line right here that is a bulb that senses the temperature
so that right there is
your thermostat okay so right now i'm gonna turn it where it starts
to come on okay all right so
that's going to be about this temperature right here
and that's on like five right if you want
it warmer than that you're going to have to turn it up
so anything above five is warm all right
i'm gonna let it run for just a little bit
so we can see if that fan will come on right okay
normally once it starts to warm up you can turn on that fan
and it'll circulate air a little bit
better that thing if there's dangerous gases
in the house you can't smell them and you can't see
them they can they can kill you like if your flue pipe gets stopped up
or something and that'll
sound off like a smoke alarm okay to let you know
in that case if it sounds off i would get out the
house open the door
and call the fire department all
right let's see if that fan will come on
feels like it's warm
enough i know it was
working last year
it's got the heat
up there's a little
disc i don't know where it is that heats up it's probably right up here
and when it heats up it'll
bring it on the camera yeah you
ordered it oh yes sir i got
to order stuff like that you know we
ain't got like
a good electronics place
around here you've
been doing
this a while yeah sir
that disc
is up
here it's
getting
hot in
here yeah
man that
is hot
well you
can turn
it off
Well, I'm trying to make sure this fan is gonna work for you
Fans
burn
up and
stiff.
There it
goes.
I think
I just
moved it
They're probably gonna have to replace it before too long.
Okay guys, we're on our way to another one. This is a
Similar deal. It's like I got a light on the back there.
It's a similar deal
Get the gas turned on, light the furnace, maybe clean it out
Well, we gonna have to move all this off of this
yeah okay can
i help you oh
that one is really
dusty hmm look
looking for their
gas meter right
now i need to make sure it's
on or unlocked it's gonna
be in the backyard there it
is over there
is this your place
okay we got a lock
on it we're gonna
have to get water
gas and light
out here to
unlock it all right we got them out here looks like they stirred up
an ant's nest right here
once again they left it for me
to turn on turn that on slow
this regulator right here you can
bust it if you turn
it open too fast wait
a minute what in the
world do we have here
a way for me
to read
that if it's
missing part
of that meter
is missing I
can't turn
that on
and it looks like it's new
but something's wrong well I
couldn't do that one I didn't
do any work I didn't do any work there
because I'm not sure I'm gonna get the call back but I
did notify Water Gas and Light
and told them there's something wrong with that meter that
needs to be repaired before the gas is turned
on but anyway um I do have another one which I
also think is a turn on the gas
but um they're not answering the phone right now so that may
be it for today if that other one comes up I'll
bring you along he turned on for you yeah did you
not know I was coming no uh no I was telling them
that the um it's still hot in here and oh the AC
ain't working yeah that's why I'm telling them I told them
that the heat like it's so hot in here
like that's why I was telling them all right you mind
if I come in and turn it on see what's going
on you know by in the morning time it'd be about 70
and uh I put it on 73 uh-huh still when I wake
up at 7 in the morning it's still 81
so I was like why why is it not working all right let me
there cool set to 73 and it's 81. you got a light I
can turn on in here yeah there we go got filters
in there and but i know it might need some new new ones
because those got dirty kind of quick
yeah they gonna get dirty if they're in the floor like that all right
so this one turns out to be a
genuine
service
call a
breakdown
they got
that
pool
running
but this
ain't
running
got the
pool
running
but not
cutting
the
grass it
looks
like
that
contactor
is
pulled
in that
is not
hot we're
gonna need a new contactor
look at this back here
was there no place
to mount the capacitor all
right we got a single
pole contactor first
let's kill the power
and go get
a contactor gas is
turned
on over
here gas
is turned
on i see
a two
pole here
two pole
two pole
got us uh
one pole
40 40 amp all right i don't know
y'all can't see very much like that i'm gonna move it how about
that can y'all see now
that's my contactor there
this is the contactor i'm putting
in this out of
the way it was just pouring rain
a second ago hold on a second i did pull
the disconnect but i need
to make
sure i
don't have
power
nothing
or if y'all
can't see
all this
or loads
taking
up on
that
that
capacitor
some
kind
of
way
let's
see
what
i'm
doing
for
all
these
wires
one
thing
about
it's
raining
that
goes
to my fan
motor
let's see
if we
can tidy
this
up a
little
bit i'd
like
to know
if my heat exchanger goes in here i don't think it
do i think i don't think it do i don't think
it does
just an
enormous
amount
of
wires
here
All
right
let's
find a
way we
check
that
capacitor
while
we're at
it must
be a 45
and 5
44.24
4.94 it
passes
let's see
if this
one's
any good
this should
be over 151
is that
right is it
not rated
from half
to 10
horsepower
it doesn't
actually give me
a rating so how
are we going to do this
let's get some strap put
a short screw
right
in
there
power
to
it
right
now
we're
going
to
have
a
time
delay
somebody
remove
an
ECM
and
put in a PSC that's what
I assume this is for I
think that's what
has happened
so how does it do
when it goes in the
heat compressor
sounded rough okay
so what we got here is
probably a 240 volt
relay this is one oh my word look at that so when it brings
on the heat that right there is labeled
heat it's gonna
energize this
which is this leg
on the relay
is coming that was
really loose it's
still kind of loose so apparently
when it energizes heat it's going
to bring on this one
to bring on gotta
be a blower motor
that's going up
in there it looks
like they have
a time delay
blower control over here that brings on the blower normally
and this brings it on when there's a call
for heat that relay does not a bad job that may have
been wired with low voltage to begin with
and um they put high
voltage to it on the
same board i fixed
a leak in here where
the teflon
seal was leaking
at least i hope i did and i'm
just checking pressures
or i'd like to i don't
have my phone my bluetooth is on there we go
and that's R22 that suction seems
a little bit high
at least it's not freezing it
was 81 degrees in there so that's
actually about right y'all seem
to complain when i don't have
the right freon selected i'm familiar with the pressure so i
need the right freon selected this one's good
to go if we can see anything wrong with this
contactor i know it doesn't focus up
close very well contacts are burnt
but i never would have
thought that would have stopped
unless they got some ants in there
or something that may not be
all of my work for today i may have to go back out
um but that's going to be all the video i
I do hope you enjoy. If you did,
how about like and subscribe and I'll catch you on the next one.
