CATCH and COOK Fresh Caught Trout!

Alright, so I met up with John, he's behind me driving right now, we got about 7 clicks down this dirt road before we were at the put in from the meet up spot. So I've been here a few times but never really explored too much, staying on a couple different islands, once 12 years ago with Will, a few times last year, and John's never been here. I have a map, I have my GPS, we've both heard about these rapids in the lake, so we'll probably head that way and see if we can fish the bottom of them, but we can troll and cast as well. would like to see these rapids personally so we have all day here it's only seven like i said spend the whole day so we got lots of time we'll stop for lunch everything so i think that's what we'll do head down to the rapids oh it's bright it's bright well what if it's a trout nice oh if it's a brookie i'll be super happy oh he's a brookie he's got some size good fish brother pretty chunky actually it looks like it from here I want to look hands nice and wet set up my own camera life of a youtuber 15 minutes later oh man look at the colors john oh colors man beauty good job buddy very nice good job i'm not jealous at all all right fish on let's see i got my deep diver the one i was talking about on on john's camera oh it's little baby laker i think what's that it does i got a net too this time yeah buddy It's a decent size for eating It's still are you hungry at all? So we're gonna take a cast at the same time and see who gets the fish one two three oh please oh nothing oh man I must had a bite or something can you see where the stream is and it's a nice day we're having a blast this is exactly both just talked about this is exactly what we wanted like I feel like I'm camping this is a day out on the water I don't even feel like I don't know where we are we've come around so many corners already we're out in the middle middle of nowhere now so there had there was a few cars at the put in but we haven't seen anyone bonus two fish john saw a moose on the way in he caught two brookies no yeah john saw a bear on the way in he caught two brookies i saw the moose and caught a laker so yeah man i feel good i feel good about today i can't even i can't get it what's your zoom on that it's so much zoom it's not a fancy camera but yeah they just straight disappear my camera oh there it is it looks like one mass that's a flying bee well we're coming into some rain here it started sprinkling a little while back but it's getting heavier so it's time to put the camera away i think and you can see a wall of it up there this is such a lake superior park day every time i'm in this park it's like a gloomy dreary day it's been hot hot hot for the past week we're gonna get off the water for a minute it's raining pretty decent now so get out and stretch our bones a little bit it seems to be a nice takeout right here see what this is all about i don't know if it's a campsite or if it's anything it's land yeah yeah yeah there's probably a camp oh yeah it's a campsite actually this is a really nice campsite wow what an awesome day oh this is a pretty cool campsite got a fire pit out here oh look a little little stone sitter sitter a little stone seat good view actually that's a a pretty nice view man it's a red rock over there slate cherry blossoms go check out the camp spot yeah this is ideal another fire pit that's good actually because that one could be pretty windy yeah well the breeze is coming through here right now too eh you've got a uh sitter another sitter up there sitter sign oh my goodness oh that was a nice little spot to stop for a snack we didn't end up lighting a fire the um the rain stopped it got a little bit warmer john let me borrow one of his sweaters so we're back on the water and we are going to really put our uh our energy and our efforts into getting some lunch we're going to uh cook up a shore lunch so i haven't even had my line in the water half the time just putzing around talking it's always like that when you meet someone new for the first time right it's it's weird to not talk right so anyways get the line in the water get a fishy or two and find a nice spot for a shore lunch man this is a nice bay here very calm we're at the very north end of the north arm of midge and uh we can literally see the end here say oh jono do you hear that we stopped talking for a minute and i got the nod of approval so there's a river over here we can hear the inflow or the outflow probably the inflow sounds like it maybe not but one of the two we'll go fish it i'm saying it's flowing out of here it looks like it for sure oh but even so for that campsite to be there in this bay like that's sick that's really nice yeah yeah calm i'm so glad we're in this place all day it's not peaceful it's not an enjoyable thing though oh this might be cool over here it looks like some flat ground and everything next to it we might be able to get out and do a little exploring more rain than not right i'm not really even that wet No, that's a good thing actually. Perfect. I'm much warmer than I was before we stopped. Nice little falls here. No fish luck at the top. No luck with the fish at the top. I kind of want to hike down there and see what i It doesn't seem like there's any way down really. I'm surprised. Wait for a minute. Pretty good. That's what it seems to be like today. The weather's coming in in bursts. Sunny for a bit. Windy for a bit. Rainy for a bit. Haily for a bit. Windy for a bit. To school with her. Got a fish on. Don't know what it is. Let's see. use the good camera the big camera for this but it's hard to set it all up and fight a fish so we're gonna fight the fish and use the action cam for the action shots i'm not gonna use the net because i'm not used to using a net and i don't like to use one and that net that i used sucked this guy's fighting he's got to be a laker the way he's fighting oh yeah wow i got a monster on It's fighting good. No, it's not a monster. Oh, he spit it. He spit it right there. Bar for the cars. That's when the net comes in handy. We've got a little bit of a hail situation going on. The, oh, it's kind of going into rain now, but it's picking up, so that's what we're doing. I found with my stick stove, if the wood wasn't bone dry, it was such a smoky, frustrating mess. Right. Yeah, if I get this one going with some pretty bone dry stuff and get a little bit of cherry in there, a little bit of coals, it does all right. Well, you're right, it's the same type of thing. And what's the best is when you can cut little limbs short and quarter them, so you get super dry stuff. Absolutely, like cut wood in a wood stove. Exactly, yep. Mini-brews. So as you can see, just getting some twigs ready here. I got the little bush-buddy twigs. So it's probably too much to light a big fire right now for the time we want to spend here. We just pulled off the water to really dry off and get all the hail and rain in the boat. So we'll sit here for a little while, collect some birch bark, get this guy going, and then try and go get ourselves a fishy. There was that spot where John hooked into those two brookies. So that, to us, is like in the bank. You know what I mean? We can go there and get that if we need to type thing, so. But again, this lake is very big. Of course. You won't see a rainbow. Okay. The sun, you won't see a rainbow. Because it's reflecting. Mist in the air, you have to look away. I wish I could describe it more scientifically. Just look away, Joe. Swing away, Merrill. We go. That's what I like to see, some smoke in the air. John's got one. The rain's let up. Birds are singing, fish on. We gonna have a lunch. We keeping this one? It's a Laker. Is he a good size for keeping? Nice size. Let's do it. Might as well. Okay. We've come to another campsite here. We're gonna cook up John's lake trout. I lost mine, so I have nothing to contribute. It's all right, it's just gonna be a little snack. We already had another little snack, so this'll be plenty. I'm gonna get some firewood. John cleans up the fish. Much more fresh than this. This day, man, I can't believe what we've seen today. Crisp them fish up. Never skimp on this, eh? No, no, that's a bad call. Especially for people who don't really like fish that much. If you do this, if you get the oil good and hot, or your lard good and hot, and there's plenty of batter, almost anyone will enjoy it. That's right, it's like a KFC type thing. Exactly. Do you want me to turn your camera on? Please, that's... The sprinkles. Oh, thanks for catching that food for us. I'm interested in eating it. Drop it now. Oh, prepared in the wilderness. Oh, my goodness, that smells good. Holy smokes. All right, folks, first bite. Oh, my goodness. I don't taste fish at all. Good. I really don't. Oh, that's super good, man. Well, everything's been working out really, really well for us today, almost near perfect. it uh it slowed down sorry it warmed right up when we stopped to have our lunch here our little fish snack um and we're appreciating the nicer weather because of the hail and the rain but we are done and the weather is starting to look a little gloomy again so we're going to get out of here we're still going to fish but we're done our food we're at the top end of the lake we have to make our way down anyway it's a big old lake so took us half the day to get here won't take us that that long to get back but we do want to fish still we've got some time it's uh i don't know what time it is it's 4 53 or 2 53 my watch is an hour wrong one way but i don't remember which way let me help you out 453 oh wow wow that's surprising that is maybe we just kind of fish our way out yeah yeah okay we both have a three hour drive ahead of us but i'm definitely uh i definitely want to hook into at least a brook trout before we get out of here so that's what we shall do. It's hot. This is a nice spot. We're both exclaiming how this site doesn't look that used at all. Like even the fire pit had grass growing in it. We think it's because it's kind of a little dead end here, bay, where it would be pretty buggy in most situations, I imagine. But firewood, no problem. I like this place. We may do a trip next weekend back to this to this lake depending we'll see see what the weather's like yeah anything bad right but if we can come do it overnight here or whatever get maybe get into the next lake catch some brookies in there it's a nice central location for us so oh pretzels and lard oh Rice pretzels! Breakfast of champions! I specifically picked those out of Party Mix. Do you really?
