AI GeneratedThis video presents a collection of lighthearted local news and community highlights from the Milwaukee area. Key segments include discussions on viral marketing, the excitement of the Milwaukee Brewers' World Series push, immersive historical tours in Cedarburg, profiles of local talent like comedian Edgar Sandoval and author Ben, and a celebration of Wisconsin's unique culinary and industrial achievements.
And try and score those World Series tickets.
Well, hey, it looks like a mistake,
but it might just land one man a job.
An image of a half-printed resume has gone viral on Reddit,
with people divided over whether it was a mistake
or a genius bit of marketing.
So the top part, it seems pretty standard.
There's a partial headshot with the guy's career objective
to be part of a company where he can enhance his skills
and gain more knowledge but the resume
abruptly ends about halfway down no work experience
or education instead there's the message hire me
to unlock my full potential
no you don't you don't i feel like somebody would be like
i'm interested enough it's intriguing yeah i would think it's
a joke like no that's fair
I wonder what the job. Well, yeah, it could be both.
It could be both to unlock my potential.
It's like, come on. You got to hope
the employer has a really good sense of humor.
You know, more you need me. I don't. Yeah, that's fair.
Yeah. Let me see what your skill set is for sure.
Before we take you to reach out.
It's interesting because in our industry, I'm going back twenty five.
Gosh, it's going to be 30 years. I've been in broadcast this November.
Wow. Crazy. So I'm going back to when I was in college and in the late
90s, when we were maybe applying for a job on air in radio,
there were some ways to get the attention of a program director.
And one way was to send them food, to send pizza.
So you would send your demo, your reel at that time, which would
be on probably cassette because a lot of people didn't put it on a CD.
So they could listen to you while they were eating a fresh, warm pizza.
Pretty genius, right?
yeah there would be no paper resume
because at that point they just want to hear your voice
so i i guess a little creativity is nice
but just cutting it off right at the head yes you know
did that seem scream joke but i'm also intrigued like what
who is this i don't know maybe give me
like a clip of something
or i feel like there's other ways than like eliminating yeah you know
your pertinent info i don't know what if he had like if it was digital
and a way to unlock the
potential if there was a click a button to go to the next thing.
Show me your skills.
Show me your skills, like, literally, digitally.
Yes.
You know, yeah.
That's fair.
That's interesting.
Now we're thinking for him.
We've got to stop doing that.
I've never done anything that creative to get a job.
No.
Have you done something creative?
Well, not even creative.
Let me take that back.
I've done nothing creative other than what I've, like,
typically have done.
All you do.
I mean, everything you do is creative, though.
Yes, but, like, in terms of, like, trying to get noticed,
because I feel like that you can get noticed for the wrong reason.
It's like, let's just side.
Yeah, we're talking about him.
You know, exactly.
Yeah.
And you're like, is he a smart aleck, you know?
Yeah.
I don't know.
Is he going to be the guy that's always, you know,
is he on the party planning committee?
And then also sometimes you're being too clever.
It's like sometimes you just want to get the job done.
That's true.
That's a little goofy.
It's a little goofy.
Well, I wish we knew exactly what the job was
because if it was a creative position, then sure,
maybe that leans into it.
But if it was buttoned up.
Fortune 500 company?
Right.
Nah.
Okay.
All right.
Well, good work.
I don't know.
Speaking of good work, Brewers did good work.
Let's get the bubbler.
Go ahead.
Run up the plate.
Goes again.
Given
to be at
a watch
party
last
night.
Okay, three down and one to go, folks.
As you know by now, the Brewers did beat the Dodgers 6-2
and are now just one win away
from clinching a spot in the World Series.
This is huge.
So after last night's 6-4 win in Game 3 of the NLCS,
the magic number is now one.
That is how many wins the crew needs now to head to the World Series.
Of course, after the game,
we heard from so many guys about the team's mentality
now that they're closer than ever. Take a listen.
I mean, it's huge, but I just mentioned to Todd we got another game,
and there's no time to put your head up and get out of the water.
You know, we've got to keep our head down and keep swimming,
and a lot of baseball to be played left still.
Anything can happen.
You definitely want to enjoy it, but, you know, as Kobe said,
the job's not finished, and, you know, there's still work to be done,
so we'll show up tomorrow ready to go.
Yeah, what a night for fans at that watch party outside AmFam Field,
some already back at the ballpark this morning.
That's fun.
That gives me chills.
Oh, yeah, people are excited.
They're even lining up right now.
It's crazy.
They've been out there for hours, some of them,
just for the World Series ticket pre-sale,
and that's where we find Andrew Amuzu.
Andrew, I'm sure just the excitement is continuing this morning.
Yeah, the excitement is definitely there.
I was actually waiting on Mr. James here
because we saw you were right there at the window.
I'm like, okay, I'm going to have to tap dance just a little bit
until he finishes up.
Can I ask the dollar amount or maybe an estimate
or just how's your wallet feeling?
Is it alive?
The wallet is alive
It wasn't as bad as I was figuring.
It was $1,250 a ticket.
And bleachers, section 234.
Wow.
So it is what it is.
Wait, wait.
I had permission.
Okay, yes.
She said, go ahead and do it.
So with the fees and everything else, it was $2,600.
Wow.
Wow.
This is actually really cool because you were at,
you even mentioned this, the 1982 World Series.
Do you remember any dollar amounts there?
I know that we had some vintage Box 6es.
I don't remember the dollar amounts.
I don't at all.
Oh, my gosh.
Because on our social media, there's a video of some fans.
They were out waiting in line like this.
The lowest ticket that they purchased was $18.
One woman said that she spent as much as $500.
That was a lot, obviously, then.
can you imagine spending as much as you did today i can't even imagine
and the thing is is i just
if they were to play Tampa Bay i just looked at Tampa Bay
and the tickets that they're offering
there for game three are half the price wow
so i don't know if it's just because we're Milwaukee
and it's that popular i don't know
or i can only imagine what Cleveland might if it is Cleveland
Right, it's hard to say but there
are, like I said, I said I could have taken a flight down
there and stay at a hotel and everything else, I mean this is Milwaukee
and I've been waiting for
this for a long time, yeah, but do you know if they have
um, a return policy? I can't imagine someone
would want to but like any return policies anything like
that, I think your return policy
is saying I'm going to call StubHub or something
and say you want to buy these tickets, that would
that would make a lot of sense
because especially with as much as people are waiting here and
everything like that you're you're still seeing
that energy, a lot of people I'm sure they want
to hold on to these tickets
but, but you, you saw, like I saw some of the people that were here at
yes, 5:30 in the morning, there was 12 of us
and four walked away without tickets because they
said I can't do it, yeah, that that is something
to know, yeah, we were here super early, he was here
one of the, one of the first several people here
and as soon as they came out with that dollar
amount, it's like oh yeah, I don't know about that one
but I, I think when you're able to see all of
this right now what do you think that this really does show about
the pride and the the passion for
Brewers fans after such a long time, that's what it
is, it's pride, it's passion, it's, it's been a long
time and you know it's been four
or five great seasons getting into the postseason and now here
we are again and we're so close, yes, yes, and so there's
also a special story I want you to share
too because you're wearing the camouflage here, you told me early
on this morning that uh you
weren't necessarily planning on being in line
this morning especially after last night's game
yeah after watching last night's game i said
to my wife i said well i won't be going deer
hunting in the morning i says i'm gonna go stand
in line well plans have changed and you know what
i did and it's been fun and it's like i said there's
a bunch of great people everybody's
having fun everybody's excited
and let's go brewers let's go brewers i appreciate you thank
you so much take care appreciate you god bless yeah it's
been truly an immaculate energy here
and i do want to mention this too
that the general pre-sale does start at 2 p.m and we are hearing
that uh each person there is a two ticket limit
as of right now there was a lot of questions on
how many purchases or how many tickets
that people can purchase two tickets that's what we are
hearing right now. So, definitely
the line is continuing to grow, and a lot of
people are hoping to get their hands on some
World Series tickets. Hottest ticket in town,
Andrew. I got a buddy in line who
sees Andrew
from his vantage point, because he sent me a picture.
What? I don't, actually, you just,
the camera just panned by him. So, wait,
are you getting ticket number two? Oh, I did.
The camera just panned by him.
Who is that with that look?
He's a boy. Is he the guy
in the shoes right here? Right there, the
black shirt. He's got the
black hoodie on, he's talking about you, you want
to give a quick shout out to Donovan, he's anchoring
right now, all right, hey what's up Donovan, how's it going man, hey buddy
so he's getting his two
is one for you, I wish one was for me, Andrew ask him can I have
the other, the second ticket, uh
Donovan has a very big question for you, he
was wondering if he can have the second ticket, it's
a two ticket limit, he was wondering, I mean that's
a great question, uh, good question, I don't know
Oh, it's going to be pretty pricey, Donovan.
All in good fun, man.
All in good fun.
He's got a wonderful family, so I'm sure
he's taking one of his boys or his wife.
Oh, yeah.
It's fun.
Good to see both of you, Andrew.
Thank you so much for doing that for us.
All righty.
Well, listen, the laughs are going to continue.
So are the good times.
Speaking of which, American Family Field
is welcoming all the fans inside the ballpark
for tonight's Game 4 Watch Party.
Okay, good.
So this is inside, which is a change.
Oh, man, which is going to be great,
especially with the weather coming.
So tickets are now on sale on the Brewer's website,
but these actually cost relative
to the other watch parties that were free.
You just needed a ticket.
Well, this ticket does have a dollar amount attached to it.
This is $10.
It includes, I'm sorry, it is $15,
which includes a $10 food and beverage credit.
Oh, my speed here.
Oh, right, right.
You know, parking lots, guys, open at 4:30,
and the ballpark gates will open at 5:30.
Net proceeds go to the Brewers Community Foundation.
Oh, this is awesome.
This is going to be, you know, almost as if they were playing here,
you know, in terms of the excitement being in the stadium.
Oh, man, this is such, I love it.
The electric feeling of the city right now.
All right, well, spooky season has arrived.
Nicola is checking out Cedarburg's Gothic History Tour
on the other side of the break.
We'll see her soon.
So how much would you pay?
A beloved tradition
is returning this
Halloween season.
Oh boy, Nicola is joining us from Cedarburg's Cultural Center
with a preview of this year's What Gothic History Tour.
All right, you have our attention.
Yeah, hey guys, good morning to you.
We are here live at the Cedarburg History Museum.
This is just one of the stops on the Gothic History Tour,
which is back for another year in Cedarburg after taking a year off.
Now during this time, Shannon Diamond,
the chair of the Gothic History Tour,
was really busy coming up with new tales,
new stories to feature on this year's tour.
Shannon, good morning to you.
So walk our viewers through that process.
When you're coming up with a tour, what are you looking
for in terms of interesting kind of Halloween-y stories to feature?
We like something that has a
local tie or a tie to Wisconsin.
We like something that we haven't explored before. So taking a year
off allowed me and the rest of the writing team,
Peg and Mark, to do a little research, comb a
little microfiche. If you don't know what microfiche is,
it's a really old way to research at the
library and come up with some new connections and new tales to tell.
Now this is not a traditional
ghost tour. That's what people probably would think
of when they think of gothic history. This
is a real historical tour.
So explain to our viewers how this is different than something
that they might see, I don't know, elsewhere this time of year.
Sure. So it's different because it's
an hour and a half walking tour.
We feature six sites along the route, each one featuring a scene
led by a docent who gives some
of the background historical information and then actors who bring
that history to life. We like to call it historical fiction.
We try and use the basis in facts and
then make it entertaining and and that's of course
for a good reason now later on in our show guys
we're going to give you a little sample of what one
of those scenes look like but for now i kind
of want to feature um this place
because this place shannon as we know you know this all too
well it's been in the Cedarburg community guys for 170 years
and these walls have seen some stuff
you could say there's a lot of history a lot
of lore going on with this location which why which
is why of course it's a stop on the Gothic History Tour
and nobody knows that better than Joel Williams
you were telling me some very um spooky stories during
our last commercial break and i thought
that we've got to get this into our live segment
because it really stuck with me so this place
can't confirm is haunted uh we've had quite
a number of people um say that they sense things
or have seen things or heard things uh yes very much
so now obviously now this is the history
museum what did it used to be was it
a general store it originally was the very first general
store here in Cedarburg yes okay
so can we tell our viewers the bathroom story okay okay are you
guys ready this one's it's it's really something
so about two years ago on October 8 just like
today um i had a desperate call in the morning
from one of our volunteers they had seen in the
men's bathroom floor the entire floor was filled with blood
so i thought well maybe they use fake
blood on the gothic history tour last night
and just didn't clean it up or something or maybe it
was water came through bone dry now i did have
to tell the volunteer that the reason they may
have seen it is many many years ago the bathrooms were not there
but there was a person that they
found deceased in that area of the parking lot at that time
so ever since then that person apparently
haunts the bathrooms especially both the men's
and the women's i mean do you blame them my gosh
wow okay so this is a volunteer really said
this oh yes yes yeah they said i'm not joking i i really
saw it i i didn't just see red over my eyes
or anything like it was it was definitely
blood you know just like in a movie
or something like that did they clean it up
well no they they ran to call me and then it was gone yeah
when when i came like i said there there
was nothing it wasn't even water they were just like
no i i i'd say i saw it i went into the
ladies and no no there was nothing in that one yet at the time
so um i did not see it thankfully
didn't have to clean anything up that is an image
that i think would really stick with somebody
all right joel thank you
so much for sharing that little uh taste of lore here this is just
one of the examples of the different kind of stories
that you might hear on the gothic history
tour or really just diving into cedarburg history
in general um yeah that is one where you know i
don't you guys know i'm i it's not i don't know
if i believe in ghosts but if i did i i can't say
i would trust them and um there apparently
is a ghost right here right now maybe they're watching
real milwaukee who's to say well maybe not before
your next hit go into the bathroom check it out
Let me see. Let me go to see in there.
Take the Holy Ghost with you.
Go on a quick trip.
There you go.
All right, well, just don't say Candyman in the mirror.
We'll see you in a bit.
Oh, boy.
Let's get right over to Gino now.
He has a special guest in studio for his segment today.
That's right, not just any guest.
An internationally touring comedian returning home.
Yes, home, right here in Milwaukee
for a set of shows Saturday at Shank Hall.
Edgar Sandoval is here with what audiences can look forward to.
You have the most interesting career path.
Tell everyone when you decided to start doing stand-up.
Yeah, it was about 10 years ago.
I'd always wanted to do it.
But, you know, you're younger and life gets in the way
and you have kids and family responsibilities
and you can never do it.
And then 10 years ago, I gave it a shot
and it just kept going and going and going.
And now I'm all over the country doing this, and I love it.
I looked at your schedule.
It is just about, you're constantly on the move.
Are you driving all over the country, or how does it work?
Some driving, some flying.
It'll be eight states this month.
I just looked at it.
Like, that's crazy, right?
Wow, wow.
When did you know you were funny? Uh, grade school I used
to ask all the dumb questions
that I knew the answer to but I knew would get
a laugh that was that was that was kind of the mo
so then why why not start right
then you just thought I need to do a normal career and then
go into it how did how did that work yeah I just think it
was one of those things you know I think
bucket list at first right right let's give this a try
and uh I was on the road traveling actually
and I did an open mic it didn't go well
and I thought okay I scratched that itch and then six
years later uh I started up and and just kept going from there
so how does it work are you
constantly writing are your ideas coming to you you have
a notebook you try where do all the ideas
come from a notebook and then a note uh on my phone okay
so when when funny things occur I'll
just kind of put down there and then
and then yeah we'll we'll see where it goes and you're
taping a special this is what's so interesting
so people can go to Shank Hall see you on a Saturday
Two shows.
This Saturday.
So we're doing two shows, recording two shows,
and we'll take the best of each one and put it together.
But, yeah, really looking forward to it.
I was born and raised in Milwaukee,
so I'm calling the special East Side Story.
I love it.
Yeah, it'll be like West Side Story,
except with no singing and dancing.
And knives.
And knives.
No knives.
That's right.
So, yeah, it'll be a lot of fun.
Well, our director, Sarah, did some research on you,
and she came away a fan.
I think people are going to love to see it.
So what is, are the shows going to be different?
No, it'll be pretty much the same.
We'll see after the first show if there
are any things we want to change or anything like that.
But most of it we'll fix in editing.
And what is your style?
Who would you compare yourself to in comedy?
I don't know.
Pretty straightforward.
Maybe like a less talented Nate Bargatze.
I don't know.
You want to sell the show.
You are more talented.
No, but it's a lot of stories about being married and kids
and all the weird things that happen as you kind of go through life.
right and yeah do you do crowd work do you work
for the audience no not a lot of crowd work and
with this we're just trying to record the material
and and get out there so very little crowd work
no heckling no heck we want no heckling at this show we'll have to stop
and start over but that
morning or the night before will you be staying up nervous
or happily excited uh i think excited
you know i mean i've been doing this for 10 years now
and i thought it's time to to get it out there
and record it and really put it out there.
So I know the material.
It's really just about coming home.
I grew up here, and I'm just so excited to be home.
The brewers are doing great.
Everybody's excited.
So, yeah, just hopefully we can get some people out.
You know, we want them to sweep
so that the crowd is there in full force for you.
We don't want them caring about the brewers at that point.
Hopefully they will have swept the Dodgers.
Hope so.
But if not, there's no game Saturday, so that's a good thing.
If they do keep going, it'll be on Sunday.
Okay. So what makes Milwaukee unique? You grew up here.
Did you find humor? Are we a funny city?
I don't know if we're a funny city,
but I know just the people, I think, growing up here.
And I just have so many fond memories of growing up on the east side,
you know, the Fourth of July things in Lake Park
and Little League and soccer.
And yeah, just so many good memories.
My parents met at St. Mary's Hospital.
Oh, you're kidding.
And that's where I was born.
And so to do this at Shank Hall,
which is just down the street, just seemed kind of fitting.
You've opened for some big names.
Talk about some of the people you've opened for.
Oh, my gosh.
Charlie Behrens, Liz Mealy, April Macy,
Kevin McCaffrey, Adrian Appaloochee.
A lot of these folks have been nice enough
to also have me on the road with them.
So it's been a great learning experience,
especially starting later in life.
So I've been very, very fortunate
and very thankful that I'm getting those opportunities.
Are comedians supportive of other comedians or is there a rivalry?
I think for the most part, very supportive.
And I felt especially supported.
I think a lot of these comedians just recognizing that I did start
later in life and seeing me go through this versus doing it in my 20s.
I think they've seen something where it's like, yeah,
let's maybe help lift this guy up a little bit, which I appreciate.
You say that you use your wife and family
and your marriage and things like that in your act.
Does that always go over well?
Do you need to seek permission from your wife to include something?
You know, I probably should.
I don't.
My wife has gotten used to it.
And I think the kids, when it's them, they do enjoy it.
I did a show in Las Vegas a few years back,
and my son was in the audience
because he was living out there at the time.
And he brought, like, all his coworkers.
And it was basically a roast of him.
So I think he enjoyed that.
Well, Edgar, so proud of you, so happy for you.
Now, where will this special, where can people see it once it's done?
We're still working on that.
At the very least, it'll go to YouTube,
but we'll see if we can get a streaming service to jump on with us,
and then we'll release it as an album as well.
We'll support this man. He deserves it.
There it is, Edgar Sandoval, East Side Story,
two shows at Shank Hall on Saturday.
Edgar, you deserve all the good things.
People don't go after their dream.
You did, and I just admire that so much.
Thanks, Gino, and thanks for having me.
Of course. Great to see you.
Go see them.
Today's a big day.
It's a big deal.
It is National Cheese Curd Day.
And if there's one thing we know around here, we will be celebrating.
I look forward to this every year for you guys.
We have Kristen Haneke and Alex Williams here from Lakefront Brewery
with the unique flavors featured
at this year's Cheese Curd Day Celebration.
Ladies, thank you so much.
Thank you for having us.
Yeah.
We like coming here.
We have got it all down.
We know exactly where we're headed.
Come on now.
And we get to brag about our favorite thing.
Let's start bragging.
What's in front of us?
I guess we'll go from this direction toward Derricka.
So one day only, special cheese curd flavors.
This is mango chili lime with cilantro jalapeno crema.
Oh, that sounds great.
And then we've got carrot cake cheese curds.
And these have cream cheese frosting on the top because carrot cake.
And then Wisconsin Supper Club prime rib.
Oh, wow.
with au jus and horseradish cream sauce
and then we paired them with the best beers also with some
na and gluten-free varieties of our own
so that can amp up the flavor share a little bit more
about the pairing because i feel like
when everyone says where should you go for a cheese
i always say like from brewery
because you have it's a good crust it's savory or it's sweet or
um i love the inside of it too
but you have a good pairing to go with it
And who complements it?
Well, the thing with beer that makes it
a really nice pairing is the carbonation.
Because it's a palate cleanser.
It gives you that bubbliness that cuts through the fat of the cheese.
And the breading and the fried stuff and whatever.
And then all the different notes.
Because cheese curds by themselves don't have a ton of flavor.
They're a really mild cheddar.
So all of the different sauces.
And that's what the beer is bringing out.
Interesting. I'm always fascinated.
Like, how do you guys come up with these flavors?
Like, that's so specific. Supper Club, prime rib.
Like, where does that come from?
Well, I mean, I don't think many places outside
of Wisconsin are really embracing cheese curds today.
So we needed to, like, dive deep into Wisconsin.
And what says Wisconsin like supper clubs?
I mean, everybody. Yeah. So that's what we dug
into was let's give that even more unique to Wisconsin.
OK. And every year I feel like it gets better and better.
Last year was like a chicken and waffle or something.
That was so good. Yeah. So talk to me about the science behind it,
because you guys are such creative chefs.
And what are your thoughts each year when you're like,
what can we do this year?
How do you pull to find a little something for everybody?
We actually took a poll of them from the employees to get
their thoughts about what they'd be interested in and seeing
or what ideas can they come up with to make things better
because we don't pull out all the bells and whistles each year.
So it's kind of hard to keep topping each year after year.
All right.
So we're going to dig in.
So this is the prime rib.
Yep.
All right.
And you said there's an au jus?
This is mango chili lime.
And a horseradish cream sauce.
And just a hint of spice.
it's mostly um if i could give it
a description it's zing you're absolutely right right it's just
it's not overpowering either
but this sauce come on kicks it up a notch yeah yeah that's where a
little bit of the heat comes from okay
so do you guys have any favorites that you're uh that you
like to choose from we're really loving the prime rib
that's my favorite one yeah this is delicious
and i'm not going to double dip that side
and i always lean towards the sweet too the sweet ones
don't sound right but when you try them you're
like oh okay they know what they're doing all
right so i always always love the sweet ones
and this is a good combination to the au jus it's
really giving me prime rib um so i'm putting this right now modestly
but if you'd like to do a good
cheese pull, this is the place to do it too, you guys have
a competition, we have a competition
more about that, so it's uh you can enter, it's teams
of two, if you don't have anyone to enter
the contest with, one of us will do it with you
and we're kind of like the pros, so you can call
in a pro to come in and be your teammate, um and i believe they do five
or six teams at a time, you

is there anything special you can tease
coming up that you're going to create
or not ready to release that, like in 2027, oh yes ma'am
Are you guys that far ahead yet?
We are.
Oh, boy.
Before we go ahead, let me go back for a quick second.
Do it.
Out of all your creations, what's been your favorite so far?
Cinnamon roll.
Loaded bag of potato.
Oh, wow.
That's the curd of the month right now.
Yeah, loaded bag of potato.
That sounds good.
Extra diet.
We can't.
You can't get that today.
Okay.
But you can get it every other day this month.
That's perfect.
That's perfect.
This is the place to celebrate the highest.
Ladies, thank you so much.
Thanks.
Yeah.
All right, we're going to check back in with Nicola,
who is in Cedarburg at a ghost tour.
We'll see what she's cooking up on the other side of the break.
All right, guys,
I promised I would report back.
So now I'm live inside of the ladies' bathroom
at the Cedarburg History Museum.
And as you can see, the ghosts are giving us a break this morning.
There's no dry blood on the floor.
There's no other spooky paranormal activity going on here.
The coast is clear.
for ghosts for now now with stories like the one
that we heard in the last hit that make this the
perfect venue for these gothic history tours they kick off next week
on october 23rd 24th and 30th
and they're led by docents who are locals
in this community they're volunteers like michael fry mark
here hi michael how are you good morning doing pretty well how
are you wonderful thank you okay
so you are one of the docents
on this gothic history tour yeah what has this been like for
you? It's just a lot of fun.
You get to see a lot of your friends. You get to, I don't know,
see a lot of the other scenes in years past.
Docents walked around and this year we're
staying put. So it might be a little bit more fun,
have a lot more fun with the actors involved with
scenes. Yeah. And it's a good opportunity too,
for folks to learn about the place that they live.
And that is of course, Cedarburg here,
which has so much history, so much lore.
I mean, we just have a lot of history.
We've been around a long time. And with that,
You know, you kind of get all the history with ghost stories
and paranormal activity.
All right, well, sounds good.
Okay, so I understand that you are part of one
of the stories that are going to be featured on the tour.
Yes, one of the scenes right here in the History Museum.
Okay, great.
And I guess if you'd like me to start.
Oh, yeah, yes.
Yes.
All right, Cedarburg has had not one, but three similar cases,
all where men tried to kill their wives.
Do you have a personal connection to the recent tragedies
in Cedarburg that you would like to share?
Come on. Chew the fat with me.
Who are you? You have quite the big mouth.
I am Holly Hotfoot, Cedarburg Weekly News crime reporter.
Cedarburg has enough crime that they need a reporter for it?
Lately we have. What, with the livery murders?
Headline, a livery, special delivery.
Oh, and the butcher case.
That one got me the front page above the fold.
Meet your maker at the butcher.
Spelled M-E-A-T.
So you're the one causing all that disruption
with this sensational journalism?
You think my reporting is sensational?
Why, thanks.
No, you're missing the point.
You are profiting off of reporting on terrible events.
The crap.
I enjoy writing a corker of a story, adding some razzmatazz.
I'm just giving the people what they want to hear.
Anything you want to add?
What about you?
Anything?
Anything for me?
As you can see, some things will never change.
That was awesome.
Okay, so that was just a small sample of some
of the stories that you can hear for this
Gothic History Tour.
Again, it is running next weekend, guys, October 23rd, 24th, and 30th.
You can get tickets on their website.
that is cedarburghistorymuseum.org uh
this is oh cedarburgculturalcenter.org thank you i'm so sorry
cedarburgculturalcenter.org
and tickets are still available they do sell out we advise you to get
them well in advance um but you do get to visit the history museum
and um the shinery and the
Keefe's House and a lot of other great places beautiful okay
and um now when do they run like what times
a day are we talking here we start at 6 p.m
and tours leave every 10 minutes please show up in
in advance. Great advice there, Shannon.
Thank you so much. Thank you to everybody here at the
Cedarburg History Museum. It's been so fun
to hang out with you guys this morning. I'm just so
impressed, guys, at the work, the research,
the detail that goes into developing a really fabulous
tour. So yeah, that's the Cedarburg Gothic History Tours.
They're back for another year after taking
a little bit of a hiatus last year,
but they got brand new stories, brand new content, brand new
research to really help guests understand the history
and some of the lore and really get folks
in the halloween spirit all right no i know
who's gonna ask it okay well i wonder okay
anything that's what i want to know oh wait did i go
in no we saw you kind of you know
no i did not did you feel anything any spirits any
vibes did i feel anything oh should we go back
yeah should probably make sure nobody's in there um no i didn't
but you know what shannon was
telling me that like the the blood on the floor
is just one example of some of the stuff that
goes on here apparently people will
also report hearing like toilets flushing out of nowhere
the paper towel dispenser will go off
when nobody's in there so it's it's that kind of
stuff that really um you know it makes you question even
if you don't believe in ghosts
you hear some of that and you think well maybe
because we don't know we don't know
we're noticing how you did not go back
in the door yeah yeah no coast is clear for now for
ghosts guys she's like oh she's like
and so is my soul not going back see you later nick i was
waiting to see like a reflection
that little thing right next to her on the door i was like
notice she was not trying to reopen that door
not at all all right well coming up a new children's
book by a local author the story behind
the crush coming up next understandably
oh this is such a great story and there's a great story
that you get to read as well here a local
author just released his first children's book called
the crush ben pizza's here with his mom
allison to share more about the book
and this unique cast of characters the book is there
there's the crush and at the top it says 724 deeds
which we are going to get to very soon
first of all mom allison uh thanks for joining us today set
the scene for us with ben he graduated
in 2022 from Brown Deer High School.
Always had this fascination with stories, watching TV,
and then he achieved greatness with getting
a certificate in Adobe Photoshop as well as
Illustrator, a rare thing to happen at Brown Deer High School.
But let's go back a little bit
further with the history.
I would say that it started when, I mean, he was diagnosed with
autism when he was a teenager,
but before that he was diagnosed with expressive receptive language
processing disorder. So I would say school was difficult.
But one of the first things that
happened that really changed the trajectory
of his creative journey is working with Islands of
Brilliance and taking different workshops there, design workshops.
And then we built off of that
when he was in high school in his graphic design classes
with Mr. Penny, Michael Penny, who's an
excellent teacher at Brown Deer High School.
And Mr. Pinney was really helpful in Ben achieving
that certification. Yeah.
Now, some time has passed since high school, right? We're at four
years later. And the proof is right there of how well he's working
and currently achieving those
goals. Ben, I have to say, first of all, congratulations.
Thanks for being here today.
The book looks great. The illustrations look great as well.
When you first held that printed
copy of Crushing Your Hands.
How did it make you feel to see your name on the cover knowing that
you did this? To tell you the truth,
it felt very exciting, and it made me feel very proud.
I would say so. I mean, for anybody to achieve this,
to have their first book in print,
that speaks volumes. And here's the thing too,
Allison, that this book is the start of something
special meaning that there are so many more books
that are in the works we have to kind of get to
the meaning of the book though first Ben for you what
is the crux about it is about Bory who has
a crush on Chelsea and his friends try to help him
by giving him different suggestions on how to make
a good first impression yeah
and i'll tell you this the names in this book are phenomenal Bory
Ovaline is one of the characters' names.
Reese Avenator is another one. Violet Blossomworth.
You've created this story based on these characters.
Not only did you create the story,
you wrote the story with help from, of course,
Amy Schwabe, but also the characterizations of
them. You designed those as well. Very stunning.
And what's special when you actually see the book
is that there's a group called the 724 Gang.
What's so special about the 724 Gang?
They each have their own style and personality.
Yeah, and isn't that the truth about life in general?
We go through every day noticing that.
Whether you're a kid or you're an adult,
we all have different personalities.
And I think, Allison, one of the things that probably you saw
when this book was starting to get pieced together
is that you were noticing the personalities in the book
and writing form but also in the illustrations what was it like
when you then started to see
the illustrations pop up
and you saw the characters individually have those those
characteristics that maybe Ben saw
at high school i think he really works off of a very specific
graphic design template. I love it.
And he really obviously uses a lot of color.
And he does have a definite eye for what he thinks
the character should be wearing.
Yeah, I mean, it had to be interesting
to see that evolution of the character from
the mind to the paper to the finished product as well.
And even better, Allison, is that the
these are cards trading cards that he's created
so this is like a one-of-one almost you know
situation where you can collect the trading cards
but in the book here there are characteristics of
Bori and Violet taken from your friends and family how
so how are those characteristics of Bori
and Violet taken from your friends
or your family members do you remember well i start with how the
character looks then come up with personality traits.
I usually get inspiration from other
TV shows and movies. Yeah, and those other TV shows and movies,
I know we talked about this
off camera, Thomas the Train, Blues Clues are a big part of it.
What's another one that Ben was
into? My Little Pony, French Miss Magic, and Equestria Girls.
Amazing. I would imagine that
that started as an early age,
kind of something that he latched onto when he was watching and
then gave you guys maybe a glimpse of hope as to what he could be.
And when, when you had told me
that you didn't necessarily want him to pursue the world of,
of writing, story writing or
illustration, why was that? Right.
Well, I mean, I think when, when children with disabilities who
have an IEP in school
when they hit 14 you're working on their post-secondary transition plan
and throughout those years from the time he was 14
on when anybody would ask Ben what his career
goal was he'd say he wanted to create his own tv shows
and he was consistent in that yeah but I
think we get stuck in that traditional paradigm yeah
of trying to redirect him to something more
realistic. And after pursuing different avenues for employment,
we circled back and decided to
pivot to why don't we pursue his dream. Good for you.
And I bet you he appreciates that as well.
What was it like working with your mom and Amy to complete this book?
Well, I really liked it when
Amy came over to my house
because it gave me a chance to show her new artwork I've created and
tell her new story ideas that i've come up
with in person is there ben is there a specific feeling
or message that you want people to know that about friendship
or about kindness through the book the
crush the best way to make a good first impression
is to just be yourself i love that i think that
speaks volumes as well too you've done
an amazing job raising such such a gentleman but also such a
creative man here as well. What's next?
I know that there's more stories. The 724 Deeds Gang
is going to continue on doing great deeds.
Do you see more books, more illustrations, possibly a show?
Yeah, the next book is called The Bullies
and it's where the 724 Deeds Gang helped Jaden build
up confidence and stand up to two bullies named Ken and Kelly.
Wow. I'll tell you what, a lot of
People are going to benefit from reading this book, Ben.
And big congratulations on this book number one.
You come back when book number two happens.
And this is just one series.
I know there's offshoots.
There's other ideas that Ben has.
I can't wait to hear them.
Can't wait to read them as well, Allison.
Thank you for reaching out to us to share this story.
It is a very meaningful one.
And do yourself a favor.
We can pick up this book where?
What's the best place to find it?
You can buy it on Amazon.
and we're also selling it in person
at the Self-Determination Conference in the Dells next
week and it's also available on ben pete's big cartel.com i love
the name ben pete's big cartel.com
congratulations guys been pleasure meeting you
as well too more real milwaukee coming back after
the break that is something it's kind of hard
to believe we're wrapping up the week tomorrow
goodness to here and get ready for high school football
a little pep rally action tomorrow

and i as we take wake up on the road this is going to
be a blast uh it's starting at 6 a.m we're live

Trail they're both geared up to take the field
in a matchup under the friday night lights um we're
gonna have marching bands we're gonna have
cheerleaders dance teams we're gonna have student
groups we're gonna have surprises do you know
the surprises i got some of the surprises but i can't
tell you or them right we can't say anything about it
so tomorrow uh like we said six o'clock
that's go time we'll probably be hitting up uh

preview but i i also like seeing the different uh members
of the team be a part of this as well
because you know this will be your second time yeah
um but back at it again our executive

excited to see her back
in her old stomping grounds you know yeah yeah it's gonna be a fun
morning yeah a lot of excitement too all right
so that's six to eight tomorrow um how about this so
we've been talking about the coolest things made in wisconsin
so the top four products in the
coolest things made in wisconsin contest have
been revealed okay take a look the wisconsin
manufacturers and commerce made the announcement yesterday
the finalists are the 4800 xpc electric
Rope shovel, the Gravely ZTHD Stealth 60 lawnmower
the Click Smart privacy glass, that's interesting
and the M157 small arms fire control, um, the final, no I know I'm
so interested in all three
four of these because it's like what are they, how
do they work? yeah um so the final round of voting
is underway and it ends October 27th, but that's
also the interesting part because you're like oh
I didn't know that was made here in Wisconsin.
I didn't know.
None of those.
And the only one, actually two,
I can wrap my head around are the glass and then the mower.
But even those look a little bit more high-tech than I can understand.
The mower looks incredibly high-tech.
Imagine sitting on that thing.
It looks like you need that for a golf course.
I bet you that does full 360 probably.
Oh, gosh.
It better have speakers on it.
I feel like it must.
It's got a massager on the back.
And I wonder what the small fire,
I'm thinking is this like a flamethrower?
You know what I mean?
It looks like it.
It kind of looks like it.
Is that what it is?
I mean, I really don't know.
I'm going to have to do some research on this.
And a privacy glass.
That would be cool if you had that, like, on your house.
You know when you don't want to, like, put the blinds closed
at nighttime when it's, like, it automatically changes?
Yeah.
I wonder.
I didn't know that they actually made that.
Not that they're making it here.
Look it up.
I know.
All winners.
Without a doubt.
See you tomorrow.
See you tomorrow morning.
