So when they came face to face with flames, three officers
with the Sarasota Police Department ran toward the danger,

Fox 13's Kimberly Quezon has more.
The officers received an official letter of commendation
for their heroic actions, and the Sarasota County Fire Department
says they acted without hesitation. This is video from their body
cameras on September 12th the call came
in just before seven in the morning the officers responded
to the Cadillac Motel on North Tamiami Trail
when they arrived they were met with flames and smoke
with many still sound asleep they went door to door knocking
and making sure all guests got out

at first officers Gagdon Cook and Carter got
every guest out and to safety before the fire department arrived
when you're the first one
on scene and you look over and you see
a building that's fully engulfed in flames
kind of gets the adrenaline going
and you know you just you have to put your best foot forward and
get to work. The job has expectations you meet those expectations
because that's what you're
supposed to do like I don't I don't even I think either one
of us really thought twice about it
I mean we get a call for service we respond
to the calls for service we do what's expected of
us because that's what you that's what's asked of you
when you're in this type of job. The Sarasota
County Fire Department said their courage,
quick thinking, and decisive actions help prevent
potential loss of life.
The fire department said that's what it means to serve their community.
When we spoke to the officers last month,
they say it's just part of their job
and they're ready to answer any call.
