The Central Electoral Board (JEC) has agreed this Thursday to sanction Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez for his statements at La Moncloa Palace during the press conference following the extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers on October 6, the day after the election was called and when the housing decrees were approved.

According to complaints filed by the People's Party (PP) and the opposition group Se Acabó la Fiesta (SALF), Sánchez used public resources to deliver an election-oriented speech. The JEC is asking the Prime Minister to remove the speech from the La Moncloa website and other official channels, statements which it considers "contrary to the duty of institutional neutrality."

The JEC also urges Sánchez to "observe the duty of political neutrality required of public authorities during the election period and refrain from making statements contrary to Article 50.2 of the Organic Law of the General Electoral Regime (LOREG) at institutional events." He is warned that if he continues to do so, he will be subject to further sanctions.
