AI GeneratedDave DuBois discusses Jonathan Kuminga's positive preseason performance with the Minnesota Timberwolves, specifically highlighting his impact in a game against the Detroit Pistons. The analysis focuses on Kuminga's value, defensive versatility, and how his development could make the Timberwolves a formidable contender in the upcoming NBA season.
So today we begin with the Timberwolves just got even more terrifying
as Jonathan Kaminga
is actually smiling on the court
and seems to be getting comfortable with his new role
with the Timberwolves.
This has to be an absolutely positive sign
for one head coach, Chris Finch.
I'm just saying, welcome back to the Timberwolves Digest.
As always, North America, I'm Dave DuBois,
and I bring you the latest of Minnesota Timberwolves
news, trade reports, trade rumors,
and of course, a whole lot of commentary.
Today, we're going to talk about what Jonathan Kaminga did against
the Detroit Pistons at
home the other night.
And yes, I know it's just preseason,
but the signs were certainly positive, weren't they?
All right, so a question for you all before we dive
into the details of today's show.
Will Kaminga make a real difference for the Wolves this year?
Go ahead and drop your comment in.
And I guess there's a couple different ways
of actually taking this question, especially
when you consider how little Jonathan Kaminga
is actually making this particular year.
in case you forgot let me pull it up
for you all Kaminga making a whopping uh basically six million
bucks this year to play for the Minnesota Timberwolves he signed
that two-year 12 million
dollar plus deal a little earlier in the summer as you all know
and I think from a value perspective
quite frankly this is a tremendous amount of value now
of course the question is about consistency
and those things will be answered throughout the course of the year
but in terms of what
Kaminga actually did and we've got some quotes
from some members of the media as well as head
coach Chris Finch which we'll get into in just a little bit
but these are the numbers against
Detroit the other night 16 points four rebounds
and three assists a game historically Kaminga
usually averages like five rebounds
and two assists per game and around uh just shy of 13
points per game so I think what we saw of Kaminga
in a limited amount of time he only played in 21
minutes against what quite frankly will most likely
be the toughest defense that this Timberwolves
team's actually going to run into during the course
of the upcoming season Detroit with Jalen
Duren are for real we saw that last year
and I don't think they're any worse off this year and
I think Duren who got that huge five-year 200 million buck deal
is looking pretty strong all
right coming up I've got quotes from Chris Finch
and a couple members of the media that you won't
want to miss. So do you all know what actually ruins a great outfit?
Well the answer to that
question is an old beat-up belt
that quite frankly hasn't fit right in years. That's why I'm super
excited today to have Anson Belt
and Buckle as the sponsor of today's video. Instead of holes
Anson uses a micro-adjustable track system
with quarter-inch increments, so your belt fits
perfectly every single time.
And I am telling you right now, once you experience that kind of fit
and comfort, trust me,
you'll never want to go back to wearing a regular belt again.
Now I've been wearing mine non-stop since I got it
and honestly it is the best belt that I've
actually ever had. Once you try it trust me you'll never go back
to your old belts again and if
you're wondering why you should trust them well
this is a company that's still proudly family
owned and operated and has earned over 40 000
five-star reviews like this one from Chad M
they back their belts with a lifetime guarantee
on functionality they stand behind every product
they make and once you get one you'll see why
and because Anson Belt and Buckle is sponsoring
today's video when you click the link in the description
or scan the QR code to build a box
set you'll get two bonus pieces a buckle
and a strap completely free that's three buckles
three straps which can be mixed
and matched into nine unique belt combos all in one box
it's an exclusive deal you won't get anywhere else
so click the link build your set and upgrade
your belt game today
so after last night's Timberwolves game against the Pistons at home
Dane Moore went ahead and tweeted out this comment I'm gonna go
and read it to you all
feels like this is a good example
of value Jonathan Kuminga provides that to this Wolves
roster which it wouldn't have had had they
not been able to land Kaminga Kaminga being able to
guard on the perimeter
but also being able to survive on the switch to a big even Jalen Moore
look I think that right there is the point
that I would take from this quote which is Kaminga
quite frankly and I could show you
the defensive side-by-side statistics but Kaminga is actually a
very good defender and his knock throughout
his career has been occasionally he gets lost in the
60s and sort of forgets uh what's actually going
on when it comes to switches it appears that the
coaching staff is already working with Kaminga
on that and we saw uh Kuminga look as significantly
better in the game against Detroit than we had seen him throughout
the preseason at least to
this point Timberwolves star
and this is coming from head coach Chris Finch Timberwolves star I
don't know about the star part
but Jonathan Kaminga's night versus Pistons leaves Chris
Finch impressed and quite frankly impressing Chris Finch
is not really the easiest thing to do
but we do need to take this with a grain of salt
this was of course a preseason game and I think
if Kaminga is truly going to turn into what
the Timberwolves hope he'll turn into, well, then
the Timberwolves are going to be terrifying to a lot of teams,
not all the teams, but to a lot
of teams in the upcoming season.
If Kaminga can keep making quick, decisive plays like he did
against the Pistons,
he could give Minnesota's offense a valuable extra dimension once the
regular season tips off.
You know, one of the great things about the NBA is it's sort of night
in and night out. You end up playing against,
of course, different teams and you end up playing
against, of course, different matchups.
And that's where having a diverse roster that can play in
different ways is going to benefit this team.
And as I mentioned, going up against the Detroit
Pistons from an offensive perspective they
do have one of the best defenses in the NBA in fact
I think they were the highest rated defense last season
in the National Basketball Association
and it's not just that Detroit has a bunch
of good defenders it's the way they actually play
bully basketball and I thought for the most part
the Timberwolves actually held up pretty good
And you have to remember, this was a preseason game as well.
Look, as I look forward to this upcoming season
for the Minnesota Timberwolves, I can't help
but get, quite frankly, a little,
and I'm going to quote Chris Finch here, giddy about
this particular roster.
This roster is not going to work against every team in the NBA,
but it probably will against
70 percent of the teams in the NBA
which has me believing that this Minnesota Timberwolves team
is absolutely a contender quite frankly is going
to terrify portions of the NBA in the upcoming
season all right love to get your thoughts
your opinions North America go ahead and drop them in
As always for the Timberwolves Digest,
I'm Dave DuBois wishing you all a tremendous rest
of your sports viewing day.
