Now at 10, breaking news in Southern California,
where multiple wildfires have erupted,
wind-whipped flames forcing many to flee their homes tonight.
And the dangerous conditions extending to the Bay Area,
where for the second night in a row,
thousands of PG&E customers are spending their night in the dark.
A red flag warning just took effect at the top
of the hour from parts of the North Bay.
Good evening, everyone. I'm Heather Holmes.
And I'm Claudine Wong.
There is critical fire weather up and down our state tonight.
And we're going to start with breaking news
we're following near the city of Malibu.
That's where the Bryson fire has burned more than 200 acres,
forcing several evacuation orders and warnings tonight.
It broke out shortly before 5 o'clock near Mulholland Highway.
Southern California Edison has also cut electricity in the area
due to those red flag conditions that are fueled by rising temperatures
and dangerous Santa Ana winds.
And smoke from this wildfire can
be seen all across Los Angeles County tonight.
The city of Malibu is especially
on edge after last year's devastating Palisades fire
that destroyed nearly 7,000 structures and killed 12 people.
Our meteorologist, Roberta Gonzalez,
is tracking the conditions down south
and joins us now live with the very latest.
Roberta.
Heather, if there's any good news in all of this,
it's that the winds are not anticipated to blow as strong as they did
during that Pacific Palisades fire back in January 2025.
Those winds were up to 100 miles per hour,
But nonetheless, they will be increasing tonight.
Currently, there you have the Bryson Fire.
And to give you a little bit of proximity,
it's roughly about six miles away from Thousand Oaks
and about nine miles away from Malibu Civic Center.
The temperature is very warm for this hour, 81 degrees.
We do have a wind gust up to 29 miles per hour, sustained wind at 17.
And the relative humidity is very dry again for this hour.
When you look at this red area here, this is where we had
the red flag warning in effect until 8 p.m. on Saturday.
So we have a long way to go with the gusty winds
and the very hot temperatures.
Heat advisory in effect. Temperatures in 80s and 90s tomorrow.
In fact, I'm forecasting 97 degrees for Los Angeles
and Thousand Oaks tomorrow.
High wind warning is in effect.
Some of the gusts throughout the region up to 70 miles per hour.
And that red flag warning is in effect. But it doesn't stop there.
We just had that red flag warning go into effect
for our North Bay interior mountains.
That includes parts of Sonoma and Napa Valley are very dry,
relative humidity down to 15%.
So the bottom line here,
we will continue to be warm to hot conditions, extremely dry,
and the gusty winds 30 to 40 miles per hour.
We can't rule out a 60 mile per hour wind.
We will continue our weather watch on all the updates,
and that's coming up later on
in this newscast.
All right, thank you, Roberta.
