It will reopen its doors today, just days after that deadly
accident left a passenger on the Goliath roller coaster dead.
The park will reopen. That ride, though, will not.
And good day, Mark Teichner is live
at the theme park with more on this story. Mark.
That's right. You know, the park has obviously
been closed ever since this accident took place,
but the accident had nothing to do with this closure.
It was always planned to be that way.
However, as we mentioned, when they do reopen the park, there
is one ride that won't be operational, and that'll be the Goliath.
That's a very tragic incident.
Bryson Watley used to operate Six Flags Goliath roller coaster
and couldn't believe a man lost his life falling from the ride.
I was just in shock.
Today, Six Flags reopens, days after Hassan Kareem was killed
when the 42-year-old educator was ejected from the Goliath.
That accident also injured four juveniles.
Watley says he'd feel comfortable getting on the Goliath
when it resumes operations.
Yes, it was safe. Yes, it is safe.
The Georgia Insurance and Fire Safety Commissioner's Office
is investigating the deadly accident.
Thursday, the office, which is in charge
of inspecting amusement park rides,
released a statement saying Goliath passed
its most recent check in March with, quote,
no violations, deficiencies, citations,
or red tags reported during that inspection.
Whatley says the park takes safety seriously,
with operators undergoing rigorous training
and visual and mechanical steps in place
to prevent tragedies like this from happening.
They do a thorough maintenance check and inspection of everything
and all the components that go on with the ride,
whether it be the restraints, all the sensors,
the brakes, the panel, the lift hill, the motor.
They do an extensive check on everything.
During the overnight hours, Six Flags releasing
a statement saying that all of their attractions undergo daily,
weekly, monthly, and annual inspections.
It also went on to say, and I will read,
while serious incidents of this nature are exceedingly rare,
we never take responsibility to our guests for granted.
And goes on to say, we remain committed to providing safe, fun,
and memorable experiences for everyone who visits our park.
Six Flags will open today at 6 p.m.
We'll stay open until 11 tonight.
Reporting live from Six Flags, I'm Mark Teichner for Good Day Atlanta.
Mark, thank you.
