Why are hundreds of thousands of Americans who failed to file federal income tax returns seemingly escaping IRS enforcement?
In this sponsored interview on Going Rogue, Lara Logan challenges Peymon Mottahedeh, founder of Freedom Law School, on the fear that keeps Americans from questioning the IRS and the potential consequences of standing up to the federal government.
Peymon points to a 2020 Treasury Inspector General report identifying nearly 900,000 high-income non-filers from tax years 2014–2016, arguing that the government’s own findings reveal major gaps in IRS enforcement.
Comparing himself to Morpheus from The Matrix, Peymon believes Americans have been conditioned to fear a system they don’t fully understand.
But what do these government reports actually reveal about IRS enforcement, and what rights do taxpayers have?
There's a threatening dimension to this for most people,
which is fear, right?
It's the fear of losing everything.
It's the fear of the IRS coming after you.
It's the fear of them taking your house, shutting you down,
all the things that they have the power to do.
So I just wonder, you know, how do you—it's a remarkable thing that you
were able to look at something like this and take a stand and say,
no I know what the constitution says I know what
my rights are and I'm going to live this I mean
I just that is uh that takes some you know some wasta right
that's it takes some moxie I'm not going
to say what I would say if we were sitting
in person they take some yeah that's definitely
what you need to do what you've done
so I just I wonder if you can tell people you know who are
worried about well that's what you say
but this is not what i see happening in practice well people
just do not know what i know you know they've raised us
in a matrix of deception so i kind of
feel like i'm morpheus and everybody in the matrix is neos
and i'm here to help you plug in and then
you say i know kung fu saying i know i can be free
and that's all it takes look the things i rely
upon for example are these this is treasury inspector general
for tax administration report
in 2020 it says that what it says high income
non-filers owing billions of dollars are not
being worked by the internal revenue service 2020 you can find it
on our website stopthefed.com
Here they say that they identified the auditors of the IRS,
U.S. Treasury, about 900,000 high-income non-filers who for year 14
to 16 didn't file a 1040 income tax slavery confession form.
And they said that of these 900,000,
basically you came after none of them.
You left them alone.
And they further show in this chart on this report,
the number of Americans who
are not filing 1040 income tax slavery confession forms is going up.
And I have this other report here that just came out
by the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration.
They want to steal more of your money.
gave on august 31st 2026 says agency-wide
coordination could enhance IRS's approach
to non-filers in other words non-filers
are being left alone still okay and here
they're saying all they're doing
is saying some dumb computer generated letters that's all they
do they send out one letter
and about 10 percent of people that get that they get scared they say
oh IRS found me i guess i gotta go back being
a slave otherwise it would hurt me and 90 percent
ignore them and then it's in a second letter
this time only maybe one out of 20 of them
respond and say oh i guess they caught up
with me again i better go back to being a slave before
they get me but vast numbers are left alone
and there's no official tax proposal letter
called the notice of deficiency that by law IRS
is required to mail to you by certified mail
to propose a tax on you which you can challenge
in U.S. tax court you the IRS nothing until the
court case is done people don't know the stuff that i know
so it's not because i got this because
Because they don't know what I know.
