AI GeneratedWhite House Press Secretary Zachariah has stepped down after only five days due to a rocky start and controversy over her professional credentials. Meanwhile, the Bay Area is buzzing with excitement as the Golden State Valkyries prepare for their historic debut in the WNBA Finals against the Atlanta Dream.
Katie, Zachariah is out
as the White House press secretary after just five days on the job.
Zachariah came under scrutiny after
a rocky first news briefing this week.
It was followed by revelations
that she had inflated her credentials by saying
that she was a lawyer when she never obtained a law license.
She has a law degree, though, from Pepperdine University,
but never did pass the California bar exam.
Do you wish you would have disclosed to the president
about the bar and not passing the bar?
Yeah, well, Lawrence, those questions weren't asked.
I'm being hired as White House press secretary,
not White House counsel.
Zachariah's departure came shortly after
the president told reporters today
that being press secretary might
not be for her and that he had asked her to consider stepping
down. I said, Katie, do you need this?
I don't think you need this. And we're talking about
doing something. We like Katie a lot.
I think she's been really, really treated very unfairly.
Zachariah now holds the record
for the shortest tenure as press secretary.
However, she was well-liked by Trump
and is expected to be used somewhere else
in his administration.
Well, get ready for a sea of violet to invade the Bay.
Fans are going nuts
over the Valkyries as they prepare for game number one
of the WNBA finals tomorrow afternoon.
All right, let's go to KTVU's Janet Katsuyama, who's live outside Chase
Center in the city with all the excitement ahead of this historic debut
in the WNBA Finals for the Golden State Valkyries.
Janet?
Well, let me tell you, we're in the store right next to Thrive City,
and it has been buzzing all day.
There's the merchandise and these special NBA final shirts
for the WNBA, the all-star Gabby Williams,
who was just named to the defensive team, and then these shirts.
and people have been coming here all day just picking up gear
for tomorrow's big game.
We talked with fans, we talked with players,
and we also spoke with head coach Natalie Nakase about what
is on the line for this finals.
San Francisco on track with the Valkyries' violet vibe this week
as the city's WNBA team advances
to the finals in only their second year.
Thrilling for fans who rushed to get gear before Saturday's big game.
Everyone dressed to impress as stores rolled out jerseys
and special WNBA finals merchandise.
It's for my wife and daughter.
Yeah, we're coming tomorrow, yeah.
Are you going to score tickets?
We bought them, yeah.
And then I told my wife, you know,
the woman's the future of the country,
so I told her that we have to make sure we go and support.
Practice Friday, all business on the practice court in Oakland.
Our whole team identity is never leave anyone on an island,
so as long as we see places where we can help,
just have each other's back like we do in all season.
That more time gave us more detailed game planning and organization
because I feel, yes, we have to play the hardest four quarters
of our lives, but we also have to be the smartest.
Gabby Williams heading into the finals after making
the WNBA All-Star defensive first team,
along with Veronica Burton and Kia Stokes,
who were named to the All-Star's second team.
So excited. They just have the best vibe when we come to a game.
Yeah, we're really rooting for them.
Fans say the Valkyries have brought energy and pride to the Bay,
showing women's sports also can draw sellout crowds.
You have the seniors, you got young kids, you got men, you got women,
you got straight people, you got LGBT.
It kind of represents the whole Bay Area,
I think, or San Francisco in general.
Fans and players hoping that home court advantage at Valhalla
will bring a win for Game One on Saturday against the Atlanta Dream.
I love the way they play.
I love the way they distribute the ball.
This time, we're going to get it.
We're going to stay here.
We're going to win one and two, hopefully three and four.
Not just on the court,
but the Valkyries also were out today
bringing their joy to youth in local neighborhoods
this afternoon of ribbon cutting in the western
addition with some newly painted
and resurfaced courts with the WNBA logos and the Valkyries so
that is just one way that the Valkyries are taking
that from Valhalla out into the community and back
here live I want to show you know they have these finals t-shirts
but I am told that they are going
to have a very special one that is just going
to be put out tomorrow ahead of the game so you know
a lot of people just love showing that pride,
wearing the violet for the Valkyries.
And it is something which, you know, a lot of people are saying
that it's also more affordable for people
to be able to go to these games,
and that really brings out a different kind of crowd to the Valkyries.
So we've got a lot of excitement here.
Back to you, Alex.
And if I know Joe Lakoff, there'll be a violet T-shirt probably
on every seat inside when they get in.
I'm curious.
I know all their games have been sold out their first two years,
But there are tickets available for this one still?
So I stopped by the box office.
There are 18 standing room only tickets.
But those are like more than $200.
And then a couple just like front row area for more than $1,000.
And then, of course, there's the resale.
So there are ways to still get in if you want to.
Sounds good.
But you're going to spend some money to be in the building.
But it's probably worth it.
All right, Jana, thank you very much.
We appreciate it.
All right, if you maybe are heading to the Valkyries game tomorrow,
drivers are going to want to keep in mind you can expect delays
in San Francisco this weekend along
Highway 101. Starting tonight at 11 o'clock,
Caltrans is closing all of the southbound lanes
on Highway 101 between Cesar Chavez and 17th Streets.
One northbound lane is also going to
be closed. This closure is set
to last through Monday morning at 6 o'clock.
